Just hit enter on the Recommended settings option. Either it updated like
you suggest, or you reinstalled the os. Either way, what's going on is that
it's like the First time you use it.

I think there must have been a recent update to Media Player. I always could
just enter on a saved track from a CD in Documents or Attachment and it
would play immediately. Now, there is something that must be done with
recommended or customized settings.

Can someone please advise me what I should be doing in order to get a
track to play with JAWS 12 and Win 7 like it did in the past?

In advance, thanks very much for your help.

[JAWS-Users] Invitations in Outlook 2010

2013-12-17 Thread Scott Duck
Hi Everyone,

I am using Outlook 2010. I have found that, when someone sends me a
calendar invitation to a meeting, it does not display correctly. It does
not give me the option to accept or decline and add it to the calendar,
etcetera. I just have a lot of what looks like html code in the E-mail
body. The same invitation works fine on my iPhone so the problem is not
anything to do with the E-mail itself. Does anyone have any thoughts as to
how to fix this?

Thanks,

Re: [JAWS-Users] what are the benefits of jaws 15 over jaws 14?

2013-12-17 Thread Sharon Gosling
I think Jaws 15 works somewhat better with IE and definitely better with
newer versions of Firefox.
I learned the hard way that it does not pay to skip an upgrade. I went from
version 4 to 7 to 9 then 11 and 13 before I bit the bullet and paid the $120
for the advance copies. I ended up having to pay for all the skipped
versions at full price and did not have the convenience of actually using
them. So this time when 15 which was the last one I had prepaid for arrived
and I went ahead and paid the $120 for the SMA of 16 and 17. I am not sure
what the deadline is but it is sometime in Dec. to pay for the next two
versions.

It works better with windows 8, but you are also getting other bug fixes.
I'd never buy an old version, Unless you plan on regaining your sight. You
will probably need to upgrade eventually when your computer dies or
whatever, starting with an old version costs you money at upgrade time.

[JAWS-Users] JAWS 15 December update posting 12/17/2013 by noon Eastern Time

2013-12-17 Thread Eric Damery
Greetings all,

We are pleased to announce that the first update for JAWS 15 will be live in
just a few minutes. If you have JAWS 15 installed, the update will be found
after the next time you start JAWS once it is posted via the Auto Updates
feature. Below, I have listed the changes.

From everyone at Freedom Scientific, we wish you and yours a wonderful
Christmas and New Year. Our offices will be closed on December 24th, 25th, and

Enhancements in JAWS 15.0.5056 (December 2013)

The following is a list of improvements made between this release and the JAWS
15.0.4203 posting.

JAWS

  * Bluetooth Auto Detection of Braille is now off by default. We have added
a check box in Settings Center located in the Braille group under General
called Auto Detect Braille Display using Bluetooth which is unchecked by
default. If you would like to have JAWS monitor for Bluetooth Braille
connections, you will need to change this setting.
  * Addressed a customer reported issue where FSReader 3 would not play the
audio from Bookshare DAISY audio books.
  * Resolved an issue where JAWS would appear to hang when using Outlook 2013
and accessing the Start Menu. This issue was related to JAWS and UI Automation
and resolved thanks to the new Error Reporting Tool in JAWS 15 and assistance
from our customers.
  * Resolved an issue where JAWS would unexpectedly close after entering a
large number of values into the Windows Calculator.
  * In a JAWS Tandem session, you can now toggle the NUM LOCK key on or off
from the controlling computer.
  * If you copy text from a Web page in Internet Explorer 9 containing
quotes, and then display it in the Clipboard Viewer (INSERT+SPACEBAR, C), an
issue was resolved where the HTML code for quotes was being displayed instead
of the actual quotation marks.
  * Pressing the increase and decrease voice rate keys on the MAGic Keyboard
during a Say All now changes the rate without stopping the Say All.
  * The INSERT+F1 help message for tables has been updated to include the
latest keystrokes for reading the current row (ALT+WINDOWS Key+COMMA) and
current column (ALT+WINDOWS Key+PERIOD). In addition, the help message now
correctly lists the jump to table cell as CTRL+WINDOWS Key+J.
  * Addressed a customer reported issue with using Settings Center to delete
a custom highlight assignment.
  * If the controller in a JAWS Tandem session changes the setting of the
Braille Dot Firmness on the target system, for instance, 100 to 0, resolved an
issue where JAWS on the controller system would keep the new setting even after
ending the connection.
  * If you have configured Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 for multiple languages,
JAWS will now automatically announce the language being activated when you
press WINDOWS Key+SPACEBAR to toggle the language.
  * When running JAWS and MAGic together and you increase or decrease the
magnification level, resolved an issue where JAWS would speak the new
magnification level twice.
  * When you press INSERT+CTRL+R to open the Document Regions dialog box, the
tree view is now expanded by default to improve navigation of this list.
  * Resolved an issue where empty flash messages were being shown on the
braille display under certain circumstances. When this occurred, only the
message prefix, such as ttr for tutor message, would be shown.
  * Resolved multiple issues with the Wikipedia Research It lookup source not
finding certain results that could be found using the actual Web site.
  * Addressed an issue with JAWS not correctly reading the slider under the
Views button in the Command Module tool bar in Windows Explorer.
  * JAWS now provides feedback when using the ALT+SHIFT+ARROW keys to
rearrange tiles or groups on the Windows 8 Start screen. Note that you can only
move a tile or group if the PC Cursor is active.
  * Added Keyboard Help messages for Navigation Quick Key Q which moves to
the main region of a Web page.
  * Removed extra pauses that were heard while reading search results on the
Windows 8.1 Start screen.
  * Addressed issues using a braille display in Line mode with WPF
applications.
  * Resolved an issue where JAWS was not always reliably speaking the prompt
and current selection in the Search pane of the Windows 8.1 Start screen.
  * JAWS now contains a UIA Script API which gives scripters direct access to
Microsoft's UIA (User Interface Automation) infrastructure through the JAWS
Script language. For more information, refer to the JAWS UIA Script API
Documentationhttp://fresci-stage.fsi.local/documentation/scripts/JAWS-UIAScriptAPI.asp
 page.
  * Addressed a customer reported issue where Navigation Quick Keys would not
work in the JAWS Help system if the help was opened from the Run JAWS Manager
dialog

Hello Anna,
Go to start with the windows key. You arrive at the search dialog.
Search for show/hide, or just one of the two elements. Then tab to where
the results are and press enter in settings.
One of the results is show/hide inactive icons on the taskbas, or
something like it. If you keep going down arrow you will find differents
items you can

sho or hide, sich as the battery.
The system tray is called the taskbar notification area.
I hope this hehlps.

Re: [JAWS-Users] outlook 2010 deleting email threads?

2013-12-17 Thread Josh
Hi Tamera,
Someone may correct me on this, but using Outlook 2010 it appears that you
would with a message closed go to the view menu and scroll down to
conversations submenu. Press enter or the right arrow key and check the box
that reads Show as conversations. It looks different using JAWS 14,
Windows 8, and Outlook 2010 I am not sure if it will look the same to you or
not. One other step you will have to do is choose if you want it to apply to
a particular folder or if you want it to apply to all folders. I do not use
it so I checked where I thought it was under the view tab and sure enough I
tried it and it did delete a group of messages. So, to recap:
1. go to view tab.
2. scroll down to conversations (submenu).
3. Press enter or right arrow to expand the menu.
4. Check the box that says show as conversations
5. Shift tab if you want the view to apply to all folders and press the
spacebar on the selection that says all folders.

I hope this is what you are looking for, if not write back or I am sure
someone will jump in. Take care.

[JAWS-Users] XP System Tray

2013-12-17 Thread Jorge Rivas
Hi,

The reply that was posted was helpful, if it was for a Wind 7 machine.

But, on this XP computer I have something I want to remove out of the system
tray.

It's the Weather Bug, I went to MSCONFIG and search the menu list and did
not see anything on the Weather Bug to uncheck on start up.

I also looked in the control panel under the task bar and start menu, it was
not helpful at all.

I don't mind keeping the weather Bug in my PC, but those pop ups got to go.

Any help would be appreciated.

Jorge

[JAWS-Users] what is a no-fluff email client that works well with Jaws screen reader?

2013-12-17 Thread Andrew James Bontrager
Windows 7 took away Outlook Express email client, so I am looking for a
suitable replacement. I haven't found one yet. Here are my requirements. The
email client should be able to do the following:

Ability to import DBX files
Ability to show the entire message title when reading down through the
messages in the InBox (Microsoft Outlook does not do this)
Ability to tell me the status of sending and receiving. For example, Outlook
Express will say Sending message 1 of 2 or receiving message 1 of 12. I
can even tab over and view how many kb in total need to be received and
sent.

Ability to work with identities or, at the least, have separate inboxes
Preferrably be a small program low on fluff (like Outlook Express).
Accessible with Jaws screen reader (of course)
Any suggestions are appreciated.

God bless and merry Christmas,

Andrew Bontrager

The email client should be able to do the following:
Ability to import DBX files
Ability to show the entire message title when reading down through the
messages in the InBox (Microsoft Outlook does not do this)
Ability to tell me the status of sending and receiving. For example,
Outlook Express will say Sending message 1 of 2 or receiving message 1
of 12. I can even tab over and view how many kb in total need to be
received and sent.
Ability to work with identities or, at the least, have separate inboxes
Preferrably be a small program low on fluff (like Outlook Express).
Accessible with Jaws screen reader (of course)
Any suggestions are appreciated.

What operating system. Windows 8 does not come with the ability to play

Hi Tamera,
Someone may correct me on this, but using Outlook 2010 it appears that you
would with a message closed go to the view menu and scroll down to
conversations submenu.

Take care.

Not sure threads is accurate, but I know in the past, when I deleted one
email posting from a thread? Conversation? It would offer to delete all
email messages with same title/subject.

Where do I find the setting for this?

JFW 15 and windows7

Thanks, Tamera

Re: [JAWS-Users] Invitations in Outlook 2010

2013-12-17 Thread Annette Carr
I'm not sure why you might be having trouble reading the body of the
message, but I can tell you how to accept, decline or respond tentative.
After you read the invitation, close it and return to the inbox, or where
ever the invite is residing. While focused on the invite in the inbox,
press the applications key and navigate to how you want to respond and press
Enter. A dialog box will pop up asking you if you want to send a message
with your response. There are 3 check boxes and 2 buttons in this dialog
box. I have found that sometimes I have to arrow away from the invite and
arrow back before the applications menu will appear.

HTH,
Annette

Hi Everyone,

I am using Outlook 2010. I have found that, when someone sends me a
calendar invitation to a meeting, it does not display correctly. It does
not give me the option to accept or decline and add it to the calendar,
etcetera. I just have a lot of what looks like html code in the E-mail
body. The same invitation works fine on my iPhone so the problem is not
anything to do with the E-mail itself. Does anyone have any thoughts as to
how to fix this?

Thanks,

Scott Duck

I was wondering if any of you have had any experience using Jaws for
Windows with the virtual phone system Grasshopper. If so, have you
found that the two work well together? If not, do you know of any that
might work better? Thank you.

How would I know I would have to update the video drivers? The problem is
that I'm not sure which codec that I need to use for a dvd that I received
from a well-known ministry. I can't seem to be able to play the dvd. That
is the real problem that I have. My operating system is windows xp service
pack 3. I hope that this would give some more information.
