[JAWS-Users] Surface Pro Users: Feedback Requested.

2014-04-12 Thread Amar Jain
Hi Guys,

I am Amar Jain, an advocate based out of Mumbai, India. I am working with
a corporate law firm in Banking Finance along with Capital Markets.

I am facing the challenge of taking notes while on a client call or in a
meeting in a comfortable way. To sort that out, I am considering to buy a
Surface Pro Tablet on an urgent basis which would give me the portability
as well as full fledged features.

Since the Surface Pro is not available in India yet, I would request for
your valuable feedback in its functioning with Jaws, as I have none to
try my hands on. I have heard one major issue is that of keyboard lag
sometimes.

Any feedback will be deeply appreciated.

Regards,
Amar Jain.

 Hi Kevin,

Depending on whether the drive is self powered, or USB powered, it could be

an issue of the drive not getting enough power to run.

Make sure that the drive is powered on properly, meaning all electrical
connections are made and any power buttons are switched to the on position.

Also, make sure that the drive is plugged into a USB 2.0 port, and nothing
less. This actually helps you with my next point, which is that if the
drive is not self powered, meaning there are no electrical cords to plug
into an electrical socket, then you can only use a USB 2.0 port, or else,
get a USB cord with two USB male connections on one side so you can plug it

into two USB 1.0, or 1.1 ports, as that's the only way you'll get the drive

to have enough power to run.

 Hope this helps.

Hi, I also am a moderator of a Yahoo list and I don't think it is
necessarily jaws. Before a couple months ago I could go on their website and
go to the management link and change the status of members or whatever. It
was cumbersome but could be done, as of a couple months ago the management
button is not a regular link button and it won't work. I can do nothing
either, but the owner of this list uses NVDA and she can do nothing as well.
She has had to make her sighted husband a moderator to be able to change
things when necessary.

As of about a week ago I can't even open my emails if I want to check them
at work. There are no links anywhere to open any email. It is maddening. I
use outlook at home so have to do it all at home. So anyone out there

2014-04-12 Thread Liuda
Hi, Judy.

I simply want to put a member on moderation. Is this going to be possible?

What's with these buttons collapsed anyway?

There once were people who were so interested in helping screen readers
survive at Yahoo. A Moderator's Central group was even created where
questions could be asked and answered.

Now, what can we do to combat this when we should have equal access in
whatever way it takes to moderate a group just like our perfectly sighted
counterparts.

I have nobody with sight to call upon and I am on my own. Next option is to
contact Yahoo somehow and find out how we can do all operations that
everyone else can do. There is a huge Yahoo installation about 5 miles from
me and I am so tempted to go knocking on doors soon.

Would appreciate the input of anybody else who is successful in using JAWS
within Yahoogroups.

Thank you for your time.

Hi, as far as I can tell there is no way to put someone on moderation now. I
have tried to go on and take someone off and as you said, that button for
management is collapsed, doesn't work. When I try to activate it, it won't
read what is on the screen. I have contacted ACB about this, thinking that
it is to the point of a large organization getting involved here because it
is getting worse. Yes, years ago, people left Google to go to Yahoo because
it was more user friendly for us. My understanding is that their new CEO is
a former Google administrator. I would be glad to talk to you, as this is
getting kind of off topic for the jaws list. Anyone interested write me at

[JAWS-Users] Password managers with JAWS 14 and 15

2014-04-12 Thread Anders Boholdt-Petersen
Hi

What password managers can I use with JAWS version 14 and 15?

I have looked on a Password manager called LastPass, but I first will hear
what you think about password managers before i try it.

Very thanks in advance.

Anders

Yup, I have an idea.

If your disk is not shown, then you have two possibilities. I'm amazed that
it doesn't recognize, but I've had experience with other Seagate drives that
run in an external enclosure.

First, find the DiscWizard program on the Seagate website.
http://www.seagate.com/support/downloads/discwizard/

Second, to get an external disk running with Windows, look at this article
on how to use the disc wizard

I bought a Seagate Expansion 500GB Portable External Hard Drive USB 3.0
from amazon thinkinking it would be just like a flashdrive.
I received it and opened it and connected it to my computer and I got the
normal computer is detecting your new device, then computer device driver
installed successfully. then I searched in my computer and I could not
find an icon for the drive, in other words its not there!

anyone have any insights about what I need to do?
I already searchedSeagate for answers with no luck or even an email
support contact.

email is golden !

the program cannot be used by keyboard navigation which means using the tab
key and the alt key to navigate the menu bar. do you know of an assessible
program that will work?

You'll have to use the JAWS cursor for much of this. This is what I've done
many times for these disk wizard programs and it still works out.

Not sure Mike.
Under personlize, I have my computer set on windows 7 basic, I am not sure

Hi Jim,

Thank you very much for your reply. To put it more easily, Jaws is seeing
the, Menues, toolbar but, my wife who is sighted, can't physically see it.
So, a better question might be, what setting needs to be changed so the,
Menues toolbar, shows? Thanks again.
Take care.

Hi All,

I'm setting up a Win7 computer for my wife but, when I go into Windows
Explorer or Internet Explorer View Menu / Toolbars the menues option is
checked , when she is in the same, the Menues option isn't there at all.
For me in, Tools / options / view tab in the Tree View, Always show menues
is checked. Now my question: When I make changes like, Always show menues,
with Jaws running, does this only effect Jaws the Jaws user or, should
these choices effect all users of the computer sighted or, blind? We don't
have separate accounts on her computer, log-in with a password isn't
required. All help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks much.
Take care.

Hi Jim,

Well, after checking again today the menues show so, as long as that is good
I guess it doesn't make any difference what does or, does not show in the
Toolbars. Thanks again for your input.

[JAWS-Users] jaws and websites

2014-04-12 Thread Judy
Hi, I was just wondering if anyone has had experiences with newer vs older
versions of jaws and how accessible a website may be. I fully understand
that it seems that websites that used to be accessible are no longer
accessible, sometimes it seems like overnight. But I wondered if anyone
noticed if it had anything to do with how current a version of jaws you are
using. Meaning that it is accessible now with the latest jaws but not say,
with jaws 13. For years I have shopped on LL Bean website, at least I could
look up info and call in an order, but for the last couple weeks I can do
nothing on their website. I can't search, there are all these click to hide
boxes and weird stuff I can't get anywhere. Any thoughts or observations?
Thanks. Judy Tallie
