Re: [JAWS-Users] Problem with key stucking on laptop
Hi, When, you hear the studdering change the window . The only way to fix that is to run a jaws repair or live with it. Mine stutters like it's stuck in third gear, Holy Jesus! You might have something running in the background or within MSConfig startup making the computer use lots of processing power when booting up. I suggest going into MSConfig and unloading what is not essential. I can help you with this if it is something you would like to try. 2. you might have an issue with your sound card drivers, and this may have been caused if you have your Windows Updates set to install automatically. You or someone else may have also accidentally manually installed something having to do with your soundcard which seemed important. If you have a USB headset try attaching and booting up your computer. The computer will push the audio through the USB rather than your speakers--hopefully you won't hear the stuttering anymore. 3. You might have some dirt and junk making the key stick resulting in the sending and resending of the signal. The following can cause keys to stick: ice cream, coffee, soda, etc. You will have to remove the key caps and clean them out with soap and water. This is simple to do, but can cause a bit of anxiety since you'll essentially have to forcefully pull the key caps off. . 4. If this is a new computer, sometimes manufacturers install additional sound card driver "features" which are suppose to give you this great audio experience, but it often causes problems such as echoing for screenreader users. You will want to check for this too. Feel free to write me off-list for free help with absolutely any computer related problem! After all, you all are far more knowledgeable than I, so let me explain. Until I got this computer, which my computer guru pre-loaded for me (with legally licensed software) I used Outlook express, and liked it. One of the things I really liked was that I could go into a folder, start with the first message, open and read it, hit delete, and the next message would automatically open and JAWS would read it. This made clearing a folder easy and relatively effort free. I can't do that with my Outlook 2007. I have to open the message, let JAWS read it, then close the message, delete the read message, go to the next message and repeat. I know I could probably find OE again somewhere, but there are features in Outlook I really do like, and, well, it's here, so I'm willing to keep it, and if there is no way to set it to do what I described above, I can live with that, too ... but is there a way? Hi, JAWS 14 will support the Vocalizer Direct voices, but not the new Expressive Voices. These voices can be downloaded from the Freedom Scientific downloads page, and are free to JAWS users. Once downloaded, just press enter on the file in your downloads folder and follow the prompts to install. Choose the typical installation method. Once installed, restart JAWS, then go to the Voice selection menu under options, and select the voice, then make it your default. Hi In Outlook, pressing alt+numrow 1 twice quickly will place the cursor in the from field and speak it. But you're still in the from field and have to tab back to the message body. However, pressing alt+numrow 1 only once will read the from field but leave you in the message body. Also, there's an option in the Outlook quick settings, JAWSkey+v while in Outlook, to have messages read automatically when you open them. In the Outlook quick settings, tab once to get into the tree view and then arrow down to reading options. One of the reading options is messages automatically read.
