It looks like FS came out with an update to Jaws 15, but I can't find a
page on their site that explains what they changed with this latest
release. Anyone know what's new?

2014-11-12 Thread Kimsan
I suppose I should read aboot this topic but for the benefit for those new
to the murge utility feature Mike: I was just curious about something.
When merging the settings over to 16 from another version, so after doing
so, will jfw 16 act as identicle to whichever jfw version you merged from?
So, for example, if my jfw is speaking a fast rate, after merging will it
speak in a fast rate when turning on 16?
Thanks much.

Hi Gerardo,

Jaws has a merge utility tool. Open the Jaws context menu with Insert /
Jaws key + J, this keystroke is if you run Jaws from the system tray, arrow
down to Utilities press enter , arrow down to, Merge Utility, & press enter.

You'll have a choice of which Jaws version you want to merge your settings
from so, highlight the version you want to use, tab to okay & press enter.

  HI guys
Recently upgraded from Jaws15 to 16, but what a time reconfiguring the
new Jaws! though I was able to kind of get it to how I had the previous
Jaws, some little details to reconfigure gave me a headache! thus my
question for the future, is there some sort of Merge Utility so, upon
Jaws upgrade especially between major versions,I could reconfigure or
maybe transfer the settings from the previous Jaws to the new one?
Thanks for info.

[JAWS-Users] an example as to why new members are moderated

2014-11-12 Thread David Ferrin
Before I remove the person in question I figured this would be a good time
to give a reason as to why all new members are placed on moderated status.

First this person asked about hacked copies of JAWS, and second tried to do
it twice while cross posting both times. Now soon as I send this message I
will remove this person, the reason is I want him to know why it was he has
been removed.

Yes this does give us more work but it protects you folks that follow the
rules. Like I said we do it as a hobby, but we do it our own way.

[JAWS-Users] Seeking info on Jaws Timed licenses?

2014-11-12 Thread Gerardo Corripio

 HI guys
OK my situation is this: I'd like if it's possible to via directly FS
since the dealers here in Mexico (at least the ones i've tried) don't
take me seriously); back in December of 98, I got my original Jaws in
English version 3.2; from there upgraded to 3.7u and Jaws four I think
up to 4.5, which is where my SMA expired. I wanted to upgrade to Jaws5
and change it to Spanish, but the dealer here in Mexico never got back,
thus I wonder is it worth the try and upgrade my original Jaws license?
I still remember the serial number I think it was 23456 or something
like that if you guys want to look for me in your records? So my
questions would be how much would it cost to change my Jaws to Spanish,
and upgrade, and if a timed license would be an option for me? Can it be
done directly via FS instead of having to depend on dealers? I used to
have Lampert and Company as a dealer if this happens to come up on the
records. Thanks for info.

When merging the settings over to 16 from another version, so after doing

So, for example, if my jfw is speaking a fast rate, after merging will it
speak in a fast rate when turning on 16?

They are only now beginning to ship the disks to those who still have an

You can download the new Jaws of course and your particular ID number will

[JAWS-Users] For us bilingual users, switching between synthesizer languages?

2014-11-12 Thread Gerardo Corripio

 HI guys
I'm curious if aside from Windows+Control+l and in my case either i
twice or E twice (for US English or Mexican Spanish respectively), is
there a faster alternative for switching between languages on the fly? I
turned off the Automatically Detect Languages feature, if it helps any
in finding an alternative way, because I'm the one who likes to take
control of in what language I'd like to read a page, document etc. IN
previous Jaws versions, the Voice Profile feature (Insert+Control+s) was
very handy! thus is there something similar in Jaws16 that would be a
bit quicker than doing the before-mentioned keystrokes every time I want
to change the symthesizer language? OH and I almost forgot I'm using
Eloquence if this makes any difference. Thanks for ideas!

Thank you for this this does make a lot of more sense. Will the newer jaws
16 work on my vista machine okay.

I should add, Kathy, that Vista will have security updates into at least
mid-2016. Windows 7 is until early 2020 as I recall, and with the market
penetration of Windows 7, it wouldn't surprise me at all if it got extended
as XP's life cycle got extended.

Next year, we'll see Windows 10 get released. I assume the next release of
Jaws will have the ability to work with the new features in Windows 10. It
should be nicer, from what I've read, than Windows 8. So, you can always
save money and use your current laptop and get something newer in a year or
so that will support all the features of the newer Windows including
touchscreen gestures; which would not be available at all on your older
machine.

I do some tech work, unless you have a copy of Windows 7 32-bit already and
just want to do it, sure. But, it isn't worth it, otherwise.

If you need to buy a copy of Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit, you can find
them for $90 on Amazon. I don't think you can do an in-place upgrade with
an OEM copy. So, you'll need to backup your laptop, then re-format and
install Windows 7.

If you are going to pay a tech to do this, you're probably looking at a
couple hours.

You'd be better off buying a refurbished Windows 7 Home Premium laptop.
I've seen some for $150 or so and possibly higher if you want better specs.

You can see if your laptop will run Windows 7 by running the Microsoft
Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor which you can dowload at
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=20

It will show you hardware specs, what if any software drivers may not work
in Windows 7.

Take my advice, I don't use it anyway.

I can see where it might save a few steps and so be easier.

Linda, I like it because I don't have to go to the delete folder to get
rid

of the messages.

It works well for me.

Pauline:

I will definitely add this to my Instructions folder.

I used Becky's instructions and it worked like a charm. But it is always
good to have an alternative strategy.

Thank you so much.

Hi Linda,

You might also try, from where you are in the mail program, the
following.

Alt E,
Y,
and follow the prompts.

This will delete everything in your delete folder.

Hi Linda.
Open the Delete folder, do control A and then hit the delete key. It
will

ask if you are sure, say yes.

Hi List:

I am having a senior moment so could someone please remind me how I
delete
the entire deleted folder at once? I am using Windows 7 Home, Windows
Mail as my client and JAWS 15 with the latest bild.

Tia.
