Re: [JAWS-Users] Virus protection compatible with jaws

2015-09-09 Thread Mike
Hi Fred, I am running the paid version. I believe that it is worth it
because of some functionality loss in the free version. I purchased a
lifetime license back in 2010 when purchasing a new laptop computer, and
they had a special price on the Vipre with the purchase of a computer. You
might just use the trial version to see what you think of the program, and
how to navigate the interface and such. Just remember, if you run across
something that does not seem to work, it is most likely disabled during the
trial period, and would become active when you purchased the software. I
hope you find something that you like and that works well for you. hth.

There has been a number of postings to the list on virus protection
compatible with jaws and I saved much of this info but lost it when my
computer crashed. I would appreciate it if some of you could refresh my
memory on some virus protection. I am now using MSe. I plan to make some
changes on my computer and would like to try a different virus protection.
I relize there are lots of different thinking on this so I would like to get
what info I can and then make my choice. Thanks much,

Hi David,

When the display says "terminal for screen reader" the enter key needs to be
pressed and the display will read "Terminal mode." Also, the switch on the
left side of the unit needs to be slid toward the front of the unit. If the
switch is in the back position Bluetooth can be used. For USB connection
the switch should be pushed toward the front of the BrailleEdge.

Take care.

Re: [JAWS-Users] braille edge with jaws;

2015-09-09 Thread Brian Lee
Hello David,

The key to the right of the dot 6 key is the enter key. If you start at the
spacebar moving right you find dots 4, 5, 6 and 8. The dot 8 is the enter
key. It is immediately to the right of the dot 6 key and the top of the dot
8 or enter key is parallel to the middle of the dot 6 key.

You will need to make sure that the device is set as the default Braille
display for JAWS. After making sure the switch is slid toward the front of
the unit and the display shows terminal mode you might need to reload JAWS.
If the display is set as default and JAWS won't load it after the reload of
JAWS you might need to HIMS USB driver installed. I can send you a link to
download the USB driver if necessary.

Take care.

Re: [JAWS-Users] OpenBook 9

Since we don't know if open book is being used in self voicing mode we'll
let it slide until all the facts are in. There was something on the FS page
about making sure you have the latest versions of all the software before
upgrading to windows 10.

Hi Kevin,

What problem are you having? I don't run Windows 10, but this sounds like a
Openbook issue regardless of the OS. Did you assign the default scanner to
be used after installing?
Take care.

I have same except using Windows 10.
I had an excel spreadsheet in older format. All f2 works fine.
I copied a few columns and rows and opened Excel 2013 and pasted.
First time I pressed F2 nothing, press escape and tried F2 again and no
problems after that.
Unsure why you are getting this message. But Excel 2013 had all sorts of
different grids and just down arrowed to simple or generic, cannot remember
exactly and then pasted.
Good luck.

Re: [JAWS-Users] issues with jaws

2015-09-09 Thread Maria Campbell
I have the exact issue with W 10. When trying to check for updates I
get the same message. I've done an uninstall, a reinstall, a repair and
still the problem persists.
FS support tells me it's a firewall setting, but all else works via the
Internet except for checking for the JAWS update. Actually I know I'm
up to date, but I should get that message, not unable to download blah
blah blah.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] THE FN KEY ON AN HP COMPUTER

Jawes doesn't recognize or speak this key because, as noted in previous
messages, it has no recognizable function. However, when used with the
function keys, it will allow the user to activate certain original
functionality. It acts like a Shift key.

In a standard HP laptop, the key is pressed in combination with the
function keys. When that happens, Jaws will announce the function such as
Refresh, Windows Active List, System Tray, etc.

Without that FN key, those keys are programmed to activate other Windows
based functions. When that happens, Jaws may or may not react to the change
initiated. Certainly, if a key is pressed and new information appears on
the screen, Jaws will respond as normal by attempting to speak parts of the
new data displayed.
