[JAWS-Users] Adobe Acrobat Reader DC

2016-02-09 Thread Alan Robbins
Hello,

I know this topic has been discussed but don't remember the
work around if any. I'm using the latest version of the PDF
software referenced in my subject line. Works great
opening attachments I receive via email, PDF's on my PC,
etc. However, some web based PDF documents, an example are
ones on my Prudential IRA site, when they get opened all I
hear is an open button that I cannot do anything with. Has
anyone found a way to open this type PDF document?

Best,

Al

2016-02-09 Thread Jim Hamilton
JAWS "shutting down and restarting" happens on my Windows 8.1 PC with JAWS
17.0.1337. So, I suspect that it does not pertain to JAWS on Windows 10. I
have heard that JAWS does not "shut down and restart" when using JAWS 16
with Windows 10. Perhaps, others may have more experience with this setup,
and can confirm this.

Robin, what about reviewing the detected potential threats. is it
possible to arrow thru the items and choose what you want to do with it.
or at least, use the JAWS cursor to review the list, if anything is
found? right now, with 2014's UI, JAWS doesn't find any items listed
even though there 2 items that are reported as being quarantined. and I
don't know how to display or interact with them.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Switching to a newly installed voice

2016-02-09 Thread Mike O'Brien
Hi

Any time you install a new voice profile into JAWS, JAWS must be restarted
before the new profile shows up. So when you pressed enter on the Vocalizer
voice, if it told you that the voice was installed successfully, the
Vocalizer voice profile should automatically show up. So try restarting
JAWS or rebooting to see if the Vocalizer profile is there. To change the
pitch for a voice profile, you have to change it for each of the JAWS voices
individually. So go to the JAWS main menu, options, voices and then voice
adjustment. Find the voice profile you want to change the profile for.
Then tab until you get to the combo box that says adjust all contexts. Then
down arrow to each of the different individual voices, such as the PC
cursor, JAWS cursor, etc. Tab until you get to pitch and set it to what you
want. Then you can back tab to the adjust combo box and arrow down to the
next voice.

Hi Alan,

When that happens to me, I just save a copy on my computer, instead of
viewing the document from the temp directory it's being held in.

I believe this has to do with the Smart Screen feature, but don't quote me
on that.

In any case, if you do a "save as" from the file menu, then save it in your
documents or downloads directory, it will negate the Smart Screen
protection, and you should be able to read the document just fine.

Hope this helps.

JAWS "shutting down and restarting" happens on my Windows 8.1 PC with JAWS
17.0.1337. So, I suspect that it does not pertain to JAWS on Windows 10. I
have heard that JAWS does not "shut down and restart" when using JAWS 16

and can confirm this.

Ican send electronic greeting cards

I have used www.bluemountain.com
The last time I used it, the process was accessible, but keep in mind
that no screen reader can describe the pictures or animations. I stopped
doing this because I found that many people do not like electronic
greetings and some would not pick them up because they thought they were
malware, and some actually are. But Blue Mountain has been around for
years, and are safe on that count.

Hi,
The best site to download a lot of software is:
www.ninite.com
That site does not sneak in stuff that you do not want to download. Very
accessible, and you can download a lot from that site. Have a great one.

To the list,

Would someone be good enough to tell me how best to use jaws and the
Facebook chat I am having a difficult time figuring out to actually
chat with anyone. It is pretty easy on Skype but something else again
on Facebook?
