Re: [JAWS-Users] text columns
Eyþór, I believe this is what you are wanting. the instructions are from notes I have saved over the years. I'm not sure they are for Word 2010 and may even work in 2013. this should get you at least started: "To do this, open a new word document, and then open the Layout tab, tab in the ribbon. Then tab down to Columns, and press enter. Now, press the down arrow to find the number of columns that you want. I believe it goes up to 4 columns, and if you want more, then you can click on the "More columns" link. If you want 3 columns, simply press enter when it says 3, and you will be set up. As you reach the bottom of each page in the individual column, the text will then wrap up to the top of the column to the right of the first column. Good luck. On my system, JAWS reports the details the way you and I would like when it comes to subfolders. For example, in Windows Explorer, JAWS will report the number of subfolders within a folder and the position of each subfolder within that list. the distinction between file and subfolder becomes apparent in the Win7 Music folder. I have subfolders identified by artist, and within each artist's subfolder may be more than one album subfolder. However, when I bring up a list of tracks, i.e., files, I get the behavior you report. (JAWS reports the main subfolders in Music weirdly, but that's another issue.) JAWS also reports number and position details in MS word 2010. However, if I'm not mistaken, Word treats what we think of as individual files (documents) as though they were subfolders. I say this because if you have more than one document open, you can close one of them with the alt-F4 close-window command without closing the Word application. I'm not sure this is helpful, but I do wonder if FS could find a solution in this disparity. I agree, I wish JAWS reported this level of detail consistently. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Rick Justice Sent: Thursday, March 17, 2016 9:12 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] File count in a folder Hi LeDon, You didn't say which version of Windows, or which version of Jaws you are experiencing this with. Re: [JAWS-Users] what is cidrix on line launcher
from what I could find out, it is a B H O that loads in Internet Explorer and helps to initiate remote access services such as go to my pc, go to my meeting, go to my whatever, and may be used by other such programs. it also said that uninstalling it thru the normal Windows uninstall procedure will lead to eventual erratic behavior. luckily there is an uninstaller program that will remove the proper remnants after the uninstall process to cleanly remove this puppy. I would advise you to do some research before you go ahead with getting rid of C O L. see if you can determine which program/service it is associated with before proceeding because there may be tailored uninstallers. for a second opinion, others are welcome to chime in on this issue. The thing that we both found odd is that when the system boots up it says JAWS home addition demo mode. Now that is only on startup, if I go in to the help, about window it says professional serial 801. I admit that gave him a bit of a shock to say the least. Re: [JAWS-Users] VIPRE and iTunes
Hi Holger, I'm running Vipre 2014 so, I don't know if these steps will work in a newer version. 1. Open Vipre & find the, Manage Malware button, & press the spacebar to open 2. Tab to the, View Quarantine button, & press the spacebar to open. 3. If , iTunes, is there highlight / select it, but don't remove it. 4. Instead of removing an item from quarantine, tab past the remove from quarantine dialog / Okay button, to find the always allow option checkbox. You might have to press the, remove from quarantine button, first so the, Okay button, appears but, don't press the, Okay button, tab past it to find the always allow checkbox & check this box. Now you can okay your way out. If you used iTunes 1 time successfully it doesn't sound like a Vipre issue, but it won't hurt to check. Have you tried starting iTunes from the executable in the iTunes program folder? Take care. Re: [JAWS-Users] Programs in startup
Hi Jorge, If you checked the Normal startup radio button on the General tab, then Control + Tab, to the startup tab, & arrow down through all the programs on the startup tab you will find all of them checked. Now, close msconfig with the escape key & reopen it. If the, Selective Startup radio button, is checked Control + Tab, to the Startup tab, & you'll see that only selected checkboxes are checked. At least this is the way msconfig works in XP & Windows 7, I don't know about other operating systems. Take care. I was sorting my documents folder. Cutting and pasting various word and text documents into various folders. All of a sudden jaws started speaking with a lot of static. Think of listening to the radio and all of a sudden you hear all this statacky interference. I unloaded jaws and restarted it and now jaws is speaking properly and clearly again. Has this happened to anyone before, any ideas what would cause this? Re: [JAWS-Users] Programs in startup
Hi Arianna, You didn't say which version of Windows you are using, but typically, if a program shows up in the Startup folder of the Start Menu, it is a shortcut to that program. If this is the case, with the shortcut selected, you would press the applications key, and look for Delete. Hi Mike, Thanks for reminding my old brain about the Control+insert+6 on the numbers row. I really don't use the Jaws settings center that much. So, I had forgotten that short cut keystroke. You should have written it down for me yesterday!Smiles... Love God! with your heart, mind, and soul, that you might be blessed reaching His goal. To download the latest release, visit the Downloads web page. Receive Notifications from JAWS About New FSCast Episodes FSCast is Freedom Scientific's podcast featuring news, interviews, and product demonstrations relating to Freedom Scientific products. When a new episode is available, JAWS now displays a dialog box containing information about the episode. You can then choose whether to listen to the current episode, go to the FSCast web page to hear the current episode as well as prior episodes, or be reminded again later. Press ESC or choose Cancel to not be notified again until the next episode is available. This feature is especially helpful for users who do not regularly access podcasts through applications like iTunes, but still want to know when a new FSCast is available. Note: If you choose the Listen Now button, the current episode is played using Windows Media Player. If Windows Media Player is not installed, JAWS opens the FSCast web page and places focus on the latest episode so you can download and play it using your preferred media player. FSCast notifications are on by default in the English version of JAWS. Since FSCast content is only in English, this feature is off by default in non-English versions. However, it can be enabled in Settings Center. Search in the Default file for "FS" and you will find the option. Adobe Acrobat A number of users reported issues with their systems becoming very sluggish while using JAWS with Adobe Acrobat, including when using ALT+TAB, or when scanning to a document. JAWS was attempting to request information from Acrobat which it was not receiving and eventually both products became unresponsive. We have made changes in JAWS to prevent this situation from occurring and we believe this issue is now resolved with this update. Braille In response to customer feedback, if you have a line of dashes such as a separator on a web page, JAWS no longer shortens the line to one or two dashes on the braille display. If you type "tri" without the quotes from the braille display, JAWS no longer inserts a triangle bullet. The Euro symbol (dot 4 followed by dots 1-5) and the British pounds sterling symbol (dot 4 followed by dots 4-5-6) are now displayed correctly in Contracted English Braille. If JAWS is configured for Unified English Braille Grade 2 input and you type dot 6 followed by a ch-sign (dots 1-6), the proper text is now being inserted. When braille output is set to Unified English Grade 2, resolved an issue where a single space before and after a dash character was not being shown on the braille display. In response to customer feedback, Tibetan is now correctly displayed in the list of braille languages located in the Translation group in Settings Center. JAWS Addressed an intermittent issue where searching for a JAWS keystroke using the JAWS Command Search feature (INSERT+SPACEBAR, J) would sometimes not return any results. If JAWS and MAGic are running together, addressed a customer reported issue where the CAPSLOCK+Mouse Wheel was not changing the magnification level. Addressed a customer reported issue with the Pitch slider in the Voice Adjustment dialog box not working as expected for Vocalizer Expressive voices

I agree, and have only observed this issue among blind computer users. I work with sighted computer users, and when they have problems, they ask someone and someone helps them. I have never heard some of the snarky comments that I read on these lists, which are supposedly here to provide support. Any article you find online, and definitely anything I publish online, contains a link to the webpage where each quotation or other documentary support is to be found. Why this insistence that blind computer users go to the extra trouble of finding a link when someone has already done so?
