Hi Jaws users list, this is my updated section of my W-10 and Jaws, complete
guide for the anniversary update to W-10. Please read and let me know what
you all think about the guide. This helps me to determine if I am helping
you all learn about W-10.

Section, Customizing Windows 10 with Jaws.

Customizing w-10 with Jaws.

Overview.
Each section starts with***.
1. Reinstalling Jaws 17.
2. Setting default programs in w-10.
3. Changing your folder options, now called File Explorer Options, in w-10.
4. How to Turn off the background apps in w-10.
5. How to change how Windows updates are delivered.
6. Live Tile Region, now called, pinns view list box.
7. The All Apps region, now called, apps view list box, of the Start button
area.
8. How to put the, This PC, Icon on the Desktop.
9. How to put a shortcut to your user folders, on the Desktop.
10. Making Program shortcut Icons, on your Desktop.
11. How to put a shortcut, for iE on your Desktop or Taskbar.
12. Using a Pin to log-in to w-10.
13. How to Verify your Microsoft Account in Windows 10, I think this is
correct.
14. Miscellaneous.
15. Making your W-10 desktop look like W-7.
16. The Notification area and the Notification Chevron button.

1. ***Reinstalling Jaws 17.
1. The first thing you may want to do on your Windows 10 computer is,
Download the latest version of Jaws 17 to your Download folder.
2. If you upgraded to w-10 from w-7 or w-8.1, you should for best
performance, uninstall Jaws, you can keep shared components and shared
settings, so, uninstall Jaws 17.
3. You then can use Narrator, press Windows key+Enter, to turn Narrator
on/off, to go to your download folder where a downloaded copy of Jaws 17
should be already downloaded.
4. Now, install Jaws 17, Freshly on to your new w-10 computer.
5. This has proven to increase the performance of Jaws on w-10, especially,
in the Start button area, and in the Settings area of w-10.
6. Redo your Jaws shortcut keystroke, Control+ALT+J.
7. Redo your Jaws setting to make sure, that it is set to come on at the
log-onscreen.
For whatever reason these two settings are not saved, all other Jaws
settings are preserved.
8. If you are using Open book, you should do a fresh reinstall of this
program as well as, any other screen reading programs, on your w-10
computer.

2. ***Setting default programs in w-10.
1. windows key+I, Opens the settings area, search edit box.
Tab one time, You are in a horizontal list of 9 items, use your right and
left arrow keys to move across the items.

3. Tab across this window, look for the internet browser which by default is
Microsoft edge.
4. Press the spacebar on the edge, tab to IE 11, press the spacebar, this
will set IE as your default browser.
Do the same thing with all the different default programs, for example,
email clients.
5. Tab to, say, WLM email client default, press the spacebar on it, tab to
say, Outlook 2016, and press the spacebar, to set Outlook 2016 as your
default email client, .

Re: [JAWS-Users] update now available to speakDropbox fixing win10 anniversary update bugs

2016-08-11 Thread valiant8086

Hi.

Welcome to my world. That happened to me too. Maybe restarting the
computer will work. I ended up finding the speakDropbox context menu on
my touch screen, because it wouldn't put keyboard focus in the window,
which so far as I know is no fault of speakDropbox. When you hit the
context key on speakDropbox or do what ever it takes to activate the
menu, the menu may open but doesn't gain keyboard focus for some odd
reason, there's no way with the keyboard so far as I can find to focus
it, and once it is open speakDropbox is stuck, it locks up when that
menu is open. So yeah, there may be tricks to get it to happen but just
a computer restart might get it working long enough to update.

By the way, if you're updating it with the downloaded installer, you
could kill speakDropbox from task manager in order to be able to get the
installer to run, that should work fine.

After I got over my major headache today, I got messing around with
speakDropbox again. I can't get it to reproduce the issue I had before
that I couldn't get it to click the dropbox icon when I double pressed the

respective keystroke. I have no idea why it works now because I've
stripped out all the related test code until it's back the way it is in
version 15, so until I can reproduce that issue, I'm calling this release

ready. So update your speakDropbox's, even those running on windows 10
versions prior to Anniversary update will benefit, since I finally changed

the alt+win+m keystroke that opens speakDropbox's own menu to
shift+alt+win+m instead, so that it works in windows 10 where alt+win+m
just doesn't work at all.

If you need a fresh download or if you want to learn what speakDropbox is

if you don't know what I'm talking about, the link to the speakDropbox
downloads page is

http://valiant8086.com/applications/speakDropbox/

the purpose of speakDropbox is explained there.

Of course, as long as you don't have the crazy issue I just had while
trying to update my installed copy, you should be able to get it to update

itself from the version menu item in speakDropbox's own tray.

Btw, I've received multiple requests to make a speakOneDrive. I intend to

try, but I think I'll extend the functionality of speakDropbox and rename

it so that it can speak various icons including One Drive. This would of
course not use any more cpu time than it already does if not configured to

support one drive or anything else besides dropbox, so let's not be
concerned that such a change will result in increased cpu consumption if
you just want it to work the way speakDropbox currently does. Any
suggestions on a name for such a creature? Also, any further requests for

tray icons to support? Google drive is not applicable as it doesn't
actually display any useful status.

Just to be safe, I'm not positive I'm going to do anything yet, but I am
definitely intrigued. Just please don't get too excited in case I don't
get my lazy butt in gear and make it happen.

Good luck happy dropboxing and so on!

Hi.

The documentation you pasted below is now out of date. though Not enough
to make a difference on whether this helps explain the difference of
speakDropbox as compared to Dropbox.

Welcome and thanks for trying out SpeakDropbox. For other applications that
I've written see my web site at
http://valiant8086.com

What is this thing anyway?
SpeakDropbox is a lightweight application that runs on the system tray and
looks for a
Dropbox
icon in said tray. If found, it watches the tool tip text for that icon and
can automatically read it out loud or play sounds when there is a change to
said tool tip text. As a result, SpeakDropbox is able to announce out loud
or produce alert noises when the Dropbox app is up to something like
downloading
a file, uploading a file, indexing, connecting, downloading file list, etc.
Additionally, it allows for manual checking of said tool tip from anywhere
with a configurable keystroke (especially useful when using sounds only and
wanting to find out what Dropbox is up to when you hear one of the sounds),
and a double press provides an easy way to open the Dropbox menu from
anywhere without the need of using "system tray listing" functionality in
your screen
reader or simulating a click on the Dropbox tray icon. SpeakDropbox will
probably be most useful for people who are blind or visually impaired and
using
a Screen Reader like
NVDA (Non Visual Desktop Access),
as it uses the Screen Reader to provide the speech output. however, it will
speak via the Microsoft Speech API 5 or later using the computer's built in
voice if there is no Screen Reader that it supports present. In other words,
if you're not blind, or visually impaired, or if you have a screen reader
that SpeakDropbox does not support, you may still have use for this
application.

list of 4 items nesting level 1
1. JAWS, not sure how far back, 10 at least
2. Window-Eyes, no clue how far back, I'm guessing earlier than 7.0
3. System Access, to my knowledge it's not really possible to be running an
old system access so how far back is not applicable

The reason I'm not totally sure about how far back these go is I didn't
write the code I use to access the screen readers and the documentation for
that
doesn't tell me. If you're using something ancient and you wonder, try it
and see if it works.

Installation
Run the installer. It will want administrator privileges, so if you have
user account control turned on, the UAC prompt will come up. Follow the
installation
wizard to choose where to install it and where to put the start menu
shortcuts and whether you want SpeakDropbox to start automatically each time
your
computer is started. the installer will give you a chance to check all the
settings made. If all is well, hit install. Installation should take about
10
seconds. On the last page there is the opportunity to choose whether to
start SpeakDropbox immediately, view documentation and view the change log
to see
what's new.

how it works
SpeakDropbox will hang out in your system tray and look for a Dropbox icon.
if it can find one, it will watch for that icon to change it's tool tip.

so as not to be rattling on about transfer rates and the like as that every
time the speed changes which, for most people, is pretty much continuously.
It can also play a non obtrusive sound to alert you when something is
happening, either in addition to or alternatively to the spoken output.
These can
both be disabled in the tray menu, enabling for use of SpeakDropbox to have
quick read outs of the Dropbox icon only when desired, by pressing the
keyboard
shortcut, and having the ability to open the Dropbox menu and Dropbox folder
but not having to put up with continuous Dropbox status updates. If it can't
find a Dropbox tray icon, it will announce "No Dropbox Icon found". It
should be able to pick up the icon automatically if you start Dropbox after
already
having SpeakDropbox running. Also it should be able to pick it up again if
you have to exit and restart Dropbox and you leave SpeakDropbox running. You
can click or press space or enter on the SpeakDropbox icon in the tray to
bring up a menu of options that will allow you to make SpeakDropbox:

11. How to put a shortcut, for iE on your Desktop or Taskbar.

on/off, to go to your download folder where a downloaded copy of Jaws 17
should be already downloaded.

8. If you are using Open book, you should do a fresh reinstall of this
program as well as, any other screen reading programs, on your w-10
computer.

[JAWS-Users] speakDropbox on windows 10 anniversary update

2016-08-11 Thread valiant8086

Hi.

I'm aware that speakDropbox isn't working properly on the Windows 10
Anniversary update. I've got my local code fixed so that it again
automatically reads the status changes and plays the associated sounds,
but I'm having trouble getting it to support clicking on the Dropbox
icon as you could do with two quick presses of the speakDropbox hotkey.
Also, I've changed the open speakDropbox's own menu keystroke formerly
alt+win+m, to alt+shift+win+m as alt+winn+m doesn't work in any windows
10 version. That's an old fix that I never got published, but right now
it's moot, because I can't even get it to open speakDropbox's own menu
in the anniversary update. I may end up releasing a version that can at
least read status changes on win10 but doesn't support the shortcuts to
open the tray icons by simulating clicks on them. Better than nothing I
guess. Either way, we should have at least somewhat of a fix in the next
couple of days I hope. If I do issue an update that doesn't fix
everything, a subsequent update later on that fixes the rest of the
challenges provided I manage to work something out would be forthcoming.

So this is not only known but reproducible. It has been going on for a
number of versions already. In fact I am not certain if it goes back further
than 17 or not.

It does it in other mail programs too, Dave, particularly if the previous
message was a large html file i.e. something like the Komando newsletter.

This has been going on for quite some time already and I feel it is time
to mention it. Often but not always while reading a list of messages the
following happens. I delete a message and while the next message pops up
JAWS just freezes until I either hit the 5 on the number pad or the up
arrow. Then it starts reading normally. I figured it was some sort of
hitch in the get along as the southern folks say, but it is annoying when
it keeps happening.

Anna..the program does not respond when it opens. What do you have to
do to get it to respond? I need to tab from the first screen ttwice -
first through the tree list and then to the email list. then all is fine.

I sure wish I knew what is wrong with it this problem just started this

Re: [JAWS-Users] Thunderbird

2016-08-11 Thread Jim Pursley
Agree, Mario, about opening/response time. Version 45.2 seems to have
increased the time between clicking a message open for reading and JAWS
starting to read it. This said, I select to read in HTML so I've always
figured that HTML pages take awhile longer to load. But I thought Anna's
latest issue on this thread related to opening the program. I've
noticed no more delay in getting the In Box than prior versions had -
the In Box fills a message at a time.

I probably know a lot less about Tbird than either you or Maria know,
but I'm learning. I've no plans to bail to another email client.

try a hot key. From the Thunderbird icon on the desktop hit the
applications key and hit the letter r for properties. Arrow down to
shortcut key and write in the letter you want. Tab to OK and hit
enter. Control alt plus your letter should open the program forthwith.
