You won['t be able to use JAWS in safe mode.
Not even sure that narrator will work either as it is designed to only load the
most necessary drivers to run the system.

That is just the standard template, I would just let it save.
If something goes wrong, you can just delete the normal template and it will
create a new one from scratch anyway.
Things like margin settings and autotext entries are saved in this file.

Hi,

I'm not sure if it's by luck, or outlook 2016, or the jaws version I'm using
which is 17. Heck, I just don't know. In any event, those using outlook
2016, since that's the version I'm using, could someone (and you can use my
email here to test it if you'd like) evoke the keystroke insert shift r to
see if the reply directly to sender works for them?
I don't think this mailing list replies directly to the member when replying
like other lists but I do remember the above keystroke not working in the
past, and again, I'm not sure if it's jaws 17, or outlook 2016. If it is
outlook 2016, awesome as smile that keystroke never worked for me in
previous versions which got me in trouble quite a bit.
I bring this up as I was talking to a buddy about this and how I can reply
directly to a sender without opening up notepad, coppying, pasting etc. I
just went to five different emails on different mailing lists and insert
shift r indeed replied directly to sender, which rocks.

Respectfully,

Use control alt arrow keys.
You can also use the table layer keystroke which is insert space bar t.
That will liet you use just the arrow keys to navigate the table.

You can use the tab key to move from cell to cell, and here you will go from

continue when reaching the butttom of table and pressing tab, you'll add one
more row to the table.

Re: [JAWS-Users] skype

2016-12-01 Thread Brian Lee
Hello Mr. Ed,

I loaded ZoomText with JAWS and the status information was still read
correctly by JAWS. The ZoomText speech also read the information correctly.
Even after unloading JAWS, ZoomText still read the information as expected
and I had magnification up to about 8x for testing. I don't know your
ZoomText configuration but if you are using default settings then this
shouldn't be a problem. If you have ZoomText with speech have you tried
turning off JAWS speech and using ZoomText speech to see what result you
get?

Another poster suggested that you check with the contact to make sure his
contact information hasn't changed. My reason for some of my suggestions
was that being you were hearing a message about a contact not being in your
contacts and yet focus was on the contact's name, it sounded like two
different areas of the screen were being read. This can happen if screen
echo is set to All and not Highlighted for example. The message you
are getting is the message I often get when I call someone but haven't added
their contact info to contacts. This is why I thought that focus might not
actually be in the contacts list.

The Skype scripts are included in the JAWS 18 installation. Sometimes just
compiling them will make things work right again.

At this time, I am not sure what else to suggest. Hopefully others might
have suggestions to help you resolve this issue.

Take care.

Hello Mr. Ed,

I really don't know why JAWS isn't giving you the status information. There
are a few things you can check though.

1. First, are you sure focus is on the information for the contact in
the contacts list? Use Alt with 1 to move focus into the list of contacts.
This should ensure focus is moved to the list and the favorites should be at
the top of the list so you can up arrow to the contact's name.
Yes, the focus is on the person's name in the favorites list. Just for your
information I use Zoomtext as I have some vision. I also use Jaws 18 latest
version.

2. Be sure the window is maximized by using CTRL with spacebar
followed by X.
Window is maximized.

3. Make sure screen echo is set to highlighted and not to All. Use
JAWS key with S until "highlighted" is announced.
Yes, it was set to echo.
4. Make sure the PC cursor is the active cursor by pressing the plus
key on the number pad if using a desktop or caps lock with semicolon if
using a laptop configuration.
Pc cursor is on.
5. Use Alt with V to bring up the view menu. Arrow down to the
"compact sidebar" menu item and if it is not checked then press enter key.
If it is checked just press Alt key to leave the menu.
I check this and it was not check but checked it and it did not make any
different except it change the view on the side and made it narrower.

6. Accessibility mode should be turned on in options. Use Alt with T
and then up arrow key to find the Options menu item. Press enter key. Move
to the last category in the list by pressing the end key. Tab to the
checkbox for using accessibility mode and make sure it is checked. If it is
not checked use spacebar to check the box. If you make changes to the
options then be sure to tab to the save button and use spacebar before
exiting options.
Accessibility mode was checked.

7. You can compile the JAWS scripts being used by pressing JAWS key
with 0, and when the script manager opens use CTRL with S. Exit the script
manager by using Alt with function key 4.
Not using any Jaws scrips. The announcing of whether the person is online
worked fine without Jaws scrips before.
8. It is probably best that you have the latest version of Skype
installed with JAWS 18.
I have the latest version of Skype and Jaws 18.

There are other troubleshooting steps that can be done but try these first
to see if JAWS starts announcing the status information for you.

Take care. I hope you get it working!

Hi everyone!

After some searching I answered my own question and found three editors that
can handle arbitrarily large, gigabytes, files. I'm posting this just in
case it helps anyone else.

I found three editors that can handle very large files, one is free, one is
free for personal use but requires a paid license for commercial use, and
the last one is a commercial product requiring a paid license beyond the 30
day trial.

The free one is called VIM and can be found at . I ended
up not testing this, so I can't say much about it.

Edit Pad Pro is the commercial product and is at
. Like VIM, this is a full featured programmer's
text editor. I also did not test this one, so will leave it at that.

The editor I chose is Edit Pad Lite at . It is
by the same company that makes Edit Pad Pro, but does not include all the
programmer specific features like syntax highlighting and auto completion.
It is free for personal, non commercial use. It's not lite on editing
features, just on programmer specific ones, and most important of all, it
works with JAWS.

I hope somebody finds this information helpful.

Cheers!

Re: [JAWS-Users] Accessible text/hex file editors? [update]

2016-12-01 Thread Gene Warner

Hi everyone!

After some searching I answered my own question and found three editors
that can handle arbitrarily large, gigabytes, files. I'm posting this
just in case it helps anyone else.

I found three editors that can handle very large files, one is free, one
is free for personal use but requires a paid license for commercial use,
and the last one is a commercial product requiring a paid license beyond
the 30 day trial.

The free one is called VIM and can be found at . I
ended up not testing this, so I can't say much about it.

Edit Pad Pro is the commercial product and is at
. Like VIM, this is a full featured
programmer's text editor. I also did not test this one, so will leave it
at that.

The editor I chose is Edit Pad Lite at . It
is by the same company that makes Edit Pad Pro, but does not include all
the programmer specific features like syntax highlighting and auto
completion. It is free for personal, non commercial use. It's not lite
on editing features, just on programmer specific ones, and most
important of all, it works with JAWS.

I hope somebody finds this information helpful.

Cheers!

Hi Kimsan

To move or copy a sub-folder to the main folder level, use f6 to move to the
Navigation Pane (folder list) if it is showing. If the Navigation Pane is
not showing, open the View menu, then navigation pane then Layout and then
check normal and then press enter. Once you are in the folder list, find
the main folder that said closed and press right arrow to open the sub-menu.
Move to the sub-folder that you want to move or copy, and then press the
Applications key to open the context menu. Then from the context menu
select Move folder or Copy Folder (if you want to keep the sub-folder) and
press enter. Then press home to move to your main folder and press enter to
paste the folder.

I thought that would be it, so how would I make those sub folders not be sub
folders of the calendar folder?

Hi Kimsan

I use Outlook 2010, but I am assuming that the following is still true in
Outlook 2016. When JAWS says closed or open after a folder name, it means
that there are sub-folders under that folder in addition to any items that
may be in that folder. This can happen if a folder is imported while you're
in the named folder instead of the root folder. Outlook's default is to
import a folder under the currently open folder. If A folder says closed,
you can press right arrow to open the list of sub-folders and navigate
through that list and open each sub-folder to see what's inside. However
when you navigate through the list of sub-folders, JAWS gives no indication
when you reach the last sub-folder in the list but will merrily move to the
next main folder. If you hear opened after the folder name, you can use
left arrow to close the list of sub-folders.

Hi Guys,

For some reason my emails were not going through to the list and we were
asked to consult our email providers or ISP's but I got no where with that.
I unsubscribed, and later on down the road I resubscribed, hoping I would be
let back into the house, which after looking into my junk folder, I saw the
email to confirm my subscription, so here I am. Here is my question,
hopefully it will make sense...

Without typing a long story, in short, I moved email folders I created over
to another destination, and later on decided to move them back, but I'm
noticing that 2 folders state close after focusing on the folder, for
example, contacts close and the other one it says calendar close. It
shouldn't say that right? Normally, based on my thinking that closed would
indicate a treeview? Thoughts anyone? I'm using latest jaws 17 and outlook
2016.

Great to be able to post here again seeing as this list I think is going on
10 years!

Respectfully,

Kimsan Song

[JAWS-Users] List Guidelines Reminder

2016-12-01 Thread Moderator
Hello and welcome to the JAWS Users list. This list has been created for The
purpose of discussing all aspects of the JAWS for Windows screen reader
Program.

So everything that pertains to JAWS is fair game. Such as asking about what
software packages work well with JAWS or how to make them work even better
with scripts, keyboard short cuts and so forth. Another example could be
requesting information on how to do something in Microsoft Word, which as we
all know works very well with JAWS, but you need to know how to do a certain
task or want to learn a way to accomplish it more efficiently.

Now this is a very important point in my opinion, asking the list for exact
instructions every time is not a good thing to do for a major reason. It
creates a dependency situation even if you don't realize it does. The ideal
place I am hoping the list will arrive at some day is that everybody no
matter how new they might happen to be with JAWS or computers will have the
confidence to try things on their own, and yet feel if they get stuck the
list will be there to help put them back on track. Trust me when I say that
help is quicker to arrive for somebody who is well known to ask for it last
than first. So try it yourself first whatever it is. If you get stuck then
let the list know what you've done to try and resolve your current dilemma.
Then I'm sure help will arrive with in short order. Next a post asking if
there is a software package that does a specific task and works well with
JAWS is perfectly fine.

The rules of conduct are quite simple and straightforward. Be polite and
Patient with others. There will be absolutely no fighting, and no bashing of
Freedom Scientific on here at all. If you have a problem with them then take
it up with Freedom Scientific directly.

Please try to keep subject lines relevant and descriptive as possible.

Signatures and tag lines should not be more than a couple of sentences,
three or four at the most. If you wish to include a tag line, don't make
another message of it. Placing anything else in there simply increases the
bandwidth required to handle the posted message and make it more work for a
person who wishes to follow the given thread back to review previous
messages, as they have to plow down past an overly long signature. Also
please place your message above your signature line so as not to force
people to read it before they get to your message.

Also any newsletters except those that directly pertain to JAWS should not
be posted to the list prior to receiving moderator approval.

Attachments are removed before any message is sent to the list. This is done
for your protection. The message list might state that there is an
attachment but in fact Mailman does remove them.

When contacting any of the list moderators privately please be descriptive
in the subject line as to the purpose of the message. Many of us simply
delete messages from people we don't know. At the present time there are
over 650 subscribers to this list, so we can't possibly know everybody on
here.

Also, if you have a question for the list that falls within the guidelines,
then post it accordingly. Don't contact the management team with questions
that are more appropriate for the list itself. Your question may or may not
receive an answer for a number of reasons.

Everybody should familiarize themselves with the content contained in the
footer message that accompanies every message posted to the list.

Occasionally there might be some difficulty with your email address and you
may receive an email from the server asking you to reactivate your account.
Please do not simply delete this message. Instead open it and follow the
directions to reactivate your account. If you do not after receiving a
number of such messages then the server will remove your email address
automatically.

The discussion of anything illegal is absolutely forbidden, along with
flirting or other such inappropriate activities. This is not a high tech
swap shop or anything of that nature at all. This means that goods and or
services will not be bought or sold using this forum. If you know a given
subject is off topic then don't post it. Simply placing off topic in the
subject line does not make it all right. Cross-posting is not permitted, and
members should only post in the following manner:

Using the TO: field with only one list address. The reason for this is that
in cases where people setup their message rules to go by the to: field often
times such rules get fouled up and in effect do not work properly. Also
cross posting might allow you to reach many lists at the same time but the
fact is such a post might not be on topic for each and every list. This
practice does nothing but clutter up such lists with
unwanted off topic messages along with annoying the list moderators.

The SUBJECT: field should be short and to the point without including any
member names.

Please do not reply to a posted question simply to say you don't know
