Re: [JAWS-Users] email registration recapcha

2017-01-21 Thread Gerald Levy

There are three programs for solving image captchas that work with JAWS.
The most popular is a free add-on called Webvisum that works with Firefox
and uses a proprietary algorithm for solving captchas. Once you install the
Webvisum add-on, you press Alt-Control-numrow 6 on the page that contains
the image captcha. Webvisum then solves it and returns the result on your
clipboard ready to be pasted into the appropriate edit field. Another image
solving program is called Rumola, which costs 99 cents a year. It works
with both Firefox and IE, and uses sighted human operators to solve
captchas. The third program is called Captcha Be Gone, which, like Rumola,
uses human operators to solve captchas and works with Firefox and IE, and
now Google Chrome as well. But it costs $33 a year, which is a steep price
to pay if you only need to solve captchas on an infrequent basis.

[JAWS-Users] Accesibility of Panda Security Global Protection with Jaws 18

2017-01-21 Thread Carlos Fischer
Dear list members,

I am new to the list, but a veteran Jaws user both at work and at home. I
recently had Pandas Security Global Protection antivirus software installed
by a friend in my PC and found out that it is not accessible with Jaws. I
wrote to VFO support and was referred to a webinar of June 2012, which
helped me a little to at least access some info with the Jaws cursor, via
Insert + -

But no more than that. Said webinar wasn't too promising on antivirus
software in general and even mentioned that older versions of some of them
were more accessible than the last one or like in VIPRE, the other way
around. But as said, that was June 2012.

If anyone of you uses or has used Panda and has gotten further than me on
its control, I will greatly appreciate your input.

We like to be as independent as we possibly can, don't we ?

By the way, Panda was mentioned among several antivirus programs by VFO as
being JAWS compatible.

Thanks a lot and kind regards

Carlos Fischer

[JAWS-Users] A Word Mystery

2017-01-21 Thread Lynn White

I'm using Office 365 and Jaws 18.

When I get a document from this file sending service called Hightail,
the Word document is shown to be in protected view. This is happening to
me on two different machines.

The files are not protected. I sent the file I received to the
individual who sent it to me and they opened it and it was not a
protected file that they saw.

A friend of mine uses Thunderbird, it reads just fine. Any ideas?

I think that's an office thing. It thinks, for want of a better word, that
the file may be unsafe, so, it's being opened in protected mode on your
computer. I know there is a way to disable that, but don't know how to go

2017-01-21 Thread Scorpio
Protected view means that the document is being opened in safe mode, in
other words, in a way that won't harm your computer if there's a virus or
other malicious piece of code embedded in the document.

It does not mean that it's protected from being tampered with.

Tab around and look for a button that says allow editing, this will open the
document up for reading.

2017-01-21 Thread Jason White
In Microsoft Word's Preferences, there are actually multiple controls the
setting of which determines under what circumstances protected View is
invoked. I remember having to find more than one setting to turn off Protected
View in Microsoft Word 2016.

Start by going to File -> Options, then, in the General category, find "Open
e-mail attachments and other uneditable files in reading view". Make sure this
is not checked.

Next, in the list of option categories, move down to "Trust Center", then
tab across to the "Trust Center Settings" button. Select this button, which will
open a list of categories. In my case, focus is placed on "Macro Settings".
Move down once to "Protected View", then tab across to the checkboxes that let
you turn protected view on or off for various files. For example, I made sure
to turn "Enable protected view for outlook attachments" off. In fact, I turned
them all off.

Microsoft makes free file viewing programs for Word, Excel, & Power point,

Also there's a program called, Jarte, available on the Jaws-Users website.

In some cases, I find I need to press alt before f, but that's the only variant
