Not sure about her specific situation but I have deleted large numbers of
emails at one time and it can take quite a while for the process to complete
and everything goes silent like a freeze but it really isn't. Just my
experience for what it is worth.

Hello;
Yes, I did take a look at Sugar's machine, not sure why the change was made
from pop3 to Imap, however, to rid of the over 10,000 Messages, you need to
delete in block of messages.
When you try the ctrl+a=select all, then shift+delete, jaws seems to freeze,
then the computer freezes.
If you do the ctrl+a=select all, then shift+delete, Just leave the computer,
and see if the delete process will work.
I may try this without jaws on.
Not sure why the Microsoft disability changed your AT&T to the imap
protocol.

Sugar,

The good news is that you are able to send. Your message reached the list.

We don't know enough to understand why the change was made from POP3, so
I'll assume you're stuck with these ten thousand messages. You'll need to
sit back and figure out an organized approach. One thing I think I'd do is
create one or more new folders in which to put the messages you want to
save. In case you don't know, you create a folder by going into the list of
folders and pressing shift-control-e. You tab through this dialog, typing a
folder name in the appropriate edit field, etc.

Then, as you go through the hordes of messages, you have a place or places
for saving messages.

Another idea is to figure out places or people who have sent messages you
know you never bother with. Here, you could place focus at the message list
and do a search with control-shift-f. Tab through this dialog for the
criteria you want to use. When the search results are ready, JAWS will
verbalize the notification. To delete these messages, press F6 to switch to
the results, press control-a for all, then the delete key. Press the enter
key to confirm.

These are the thoughts off the top of my head. I'm sure others will have
suggestions. If I can clarify anything, or if more specific questions come
to your mind, please post again.

Re: [JAWS-Users] issues

Hello; I also mentioned to Sugar, with all the messages within the inbox,
you could possibly have a corrupted folder.
There was over 30,000 messages when I looked at the computer yesterday.
You need to also be careful, that the pst file, doesn't get to large.

The error Sugar is receiving is,
IMAP has encountered an error with Port

993

  Error Code: 0x800CCCDB
This error could mean a number of things, including corrupted folder.
I think however what's happening is, when delete process is going on,
messages are filtering into the inbox, and this causes an outlook freeze.
You also may want to disconnect from the internet, then try to delete the
messages.
There will be no incoming, or, outgoing action.
Hope this helps.

Sugar,

To help in your deletion process, try sorting messages by sender and delete
the obvious ones. Then sort by subject to help you find other groupings of
mail to delete. I often do this when my collection gets too large.

did suggest and what I'll probably do is to grab the drivers off Dell's

reason am not even getting an internet connection even though I'm hard wired
to the router. I'll deal with the internet thing later if I can get sound
back first.
I may even run down to BestBuy and buy a cheap external soundcard just to
see. So... Anyone have an suggestion on a cheap external sound card by the
way?
I might even try giving Microsoft accessibility a call over the weekend.
The saga continues.

connected via an Ethernet cable.
I've checked online and even someone on one of these lists recommended to
uninstall audiodrivers in the device manager, and restart, but this doesn't
seem as though it wouldn't work for me as again, I'm somehow no longer
connected to the Internet.
I also tried accessing system restore and am presented with an error message

having to do with the audio property profile not being loaded and to check
the event log etc.
I've since tried rebooting and am again stuck on that original screen before

the desktop.
I wrote FS earlier, but who knows.

Crist says he started the process form the downloaded installer. From that
point of view, he did everything right.

Crist, if you and your wife can arrange it, I think you need to call FS
together. They need to know that installation of the current JAWS 18 caused
this nightmare, and they will be eager to help. I'm guessing you somehow
went into diagnostic mode instead of normal startup. I did this once when
messing around with the MSConfig file, and I needed sighted expertise to get

me out of it. My guess is that FS/VFO can do this for you.

Hi,
How did you update your Jaws? Did you go to the FS site and download the new

update or did you just click on the dialog box when Jaws loaded and click
yes to update? Just curious.

Well, I spoke to FS support and they as I figured were stumped. What they
did suggest and what I'll probably do is to grab the drivers off Dell's
website and manually install them with a thumb drive since I for whatever
reason am not even getting an internet connection even though I'm hard wired
to the router.

Both numbers work. The 800 number is toll-free for anyone still paying for
individual long-distance calls.

Can you call FS? 800-444-4443, follow the prompts. I think it's 2, then 1.
They'll be closing for the weekend pretty soon.

Update:
After restarting my computer and waiting around an hour, the desktop came
up. However, my sighted wife says that there's an error message having to do

with the audio/sound application not being loaded. Following the prompts,
though we are given the option to enable audio, this doesn't seem to occur.
Nor am I able to connect to the Internet even though this machine is
connected via an Ethernet cable.

As I explained, the machine doesn't boot all the way. So can't do anything
beyond this screen.
