Hi Dave, I'm using WLM 2012, and even though I have the option to always
spellcheck before sending mail, it never worked.
I assume it's because I don't have MS office installed. Am I correct or I
need to do something else for it to work?

Thanks. Keep up the good job.

First if your using a client such as outlook thunderbird outlook express
etc. you want to go into gmail settings and allow less secure apps. Second
make sure pop3 is turned in gmail settings. I am using pop3 and it's

Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws and spellcheck

Hello;
As I indicated, I believe the windows 10 mail app has spell check, however,
according to my Google research, windows live mail doesn't have the
spellcheck. You'll need a office version, or download a stand alone
spellcheck program.

I assume it's because I don't have MS office installed. Am I correct or I
need to do something else for it to work?
Thanks. Keep up the good job.

So a stand alone spellchecker program will be necessary.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Boy, Jarte is a great accessible word processor!

Hi Andy,

I owe you a great and hardy "Thank you" for telling us about Jarte! It is
just what I always wanted, a nice easy word processor that is fully
compatible with JAWS. It was easy to download and install. Folks will find
it to have a very familiar feel, and it is easy to explore the menus and
find all the features, everything I want, a few nice extras, but not as much
of the wild stuff the Microsoft Word program has. It also has a nice
regular old menu system.

So for those who did not notice his post, please consider Jarte. I can
already tell that I will use it a lot, perhaps as my default word processor.
It is certainly the solution for those who have only WordPad.

A post-installation note. When you first launch the program for the purpose
of real work, watch for the following. When you first go to open your file
list, the old familiar control + o key, you need to set the file type. By
default, it is set to RTF only, meaning that when you tab to the file list,
you will see only the folders, and only those files that are in RTF format.

Instead, tab to the file type field, and Arrow down to the format you want
to see in the file list, or arrow down to the bottom, about 5 times, to the
all-format view. Whatever format option you choose, just press enter.
Then, just do the shift tab a couple of times and there is the list of all
folders, and depending upon your file type selection discussed above, your
list of files. If you do not do this step, you will see only the list of
folders, if any, and only RTF files, if any, in the folder. I assume there
is a way to set the default file type, but I have not learned that much yet,
and for beginners of Jarte, it is probably best to just check the file type
box each time, or you will be greatly confused wondering where your files
and folders are!

I put in below the link to the Jarte web page that contains the description
of features. On that same page is also the download link. The installation
file you download is small, less than 4 mb. Installation was completely
perfect and easy, both for accessibility and for clarity.

The link is below, just past my name. Thanks again Andy!

There are several different ways these controls work. You should be able to get
inside the box by pressing enter where JAWS verbalizes the control's name, such
as "list." then try John's suggestion again. If that doesn't work, start over
by pressing enter, then skip the alt-arrow step and just arrow down. To get out
of the box, try pressing alt-up arrow.
In one box that I work with all the time, the trick is to press enter when I
hit the option I want. Then I need to press the PC cursor twice to get out of
the control.

[JAWS-Users] Problem Advancing Beyond First Page Of PDf Articles

2017-05-25 Thread Tom Behler
Hello, everyone.

I am having a problem reading a few PDF articles I have just been sent.

Once I open the attachments, via Adobe Acrobat DC, I find that I cannot
advance beyond the first page of each article, either via the arrow keys, or
the page up and page down keys.

Interestingly, when I use my arrow keys and the page up or down keys, the
visual sscreen advances with no problem. In other words, Jaws appears to be
stuck on the first page and is unable to advance through the rest of the
file.

I'm using Windows 7 and the latest build of Jaws 18 here, along with Adobe
Acrobat DC.

Any suggestions would be apreciated.

Dr. Tom Behler from Michigan

Interestingly, when I use my arrow keys and the page up or down keys, the

[JAWS-Users] OverlayWindow0 On Top

2017-05-25 Thread Reed
Hello,

With Windows Version 10.0.14393, when I hit Insert+F10 to show "window
list", I am now seeing this "OverlayWindow0 On Top" that I've never seen
before.

I have seen it just after boot up, after loading Outlook and at other random
times.

When I hit Enter to open it and hit Insert+Q twice quickly, it tells me
"JAWS for Windows settings are used in the jfw.exe application. The
configuration name is JAWS Window. The current scheme is Classic."

When I hit Insert+F1, I get "JAWS may not recognize this control. To show
JAWS what type of control it is, press Insert+7. To see more technical
information on the control, press Control+Insert+F1."

When I hit Control+Insert+F1, I get,

"Window Technical Information:

Control ID 0

Class OverlayWindowClass_F7A740FA-AB45-4F46-BB58-3DCEDB196F1C

Handle 983746".

So, it shows the Control Id, Class and Handle. Try saying that Class real
fast. Bet you can't.

When I use Alt+Tab to cycle through my open programs, I don't land on this
Overlay Window; even when I've opened it from the window list.

Do any of you JAWS experts have an explanation for this Overlay window?

Thanks,

Jarte uses the same classic menu structure as Wordpad, upon which it is
based. You just press the Alt key to launch the menus, just as you would
with any other program. To invoke the spell checker, just press F7.

[JAWS-Users] Windows switches from Chrome to IE-11 when accessing a link in an email

Hello,

I have recently made Chrome my default browser and it is working as such except
for when I receive emails in Constant Contact FROWN
When I click on the link it gives me the obligatory warning about reading an
email in the browser then it comes up and informs me it will use IE-11 to read
unless I say differently. Down below it offers me Chrome as the first
alternative.
If I have Chrome as my default is this Constant Contact or Windows that is
doing this to me?

[JAWS-Users] confusing webpage

2017-05-25 Thread Vicki
Good Afternoon,

I have a rather odd issue with a webpage and JAWS.

I will paste the link to the page below so that if anyone would like to take a
look, feel free.

The page is in either Spanish or Italian. The speech is very fast and I need it
slower to figure out the language, I think Spanish.

That's not my problem, though.

When I select the English option, it actually goes to the English page and
shows only English on the screen. However, Jaws is still reading in the other
language.

Why would this happen and how can I fix it?

Here is the link.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] OverlayWindow0 On Top

Hello,

With Windows Version 10.0.14393, when I hit Insert+F10 to show "window
list", I am now seeing this "OverlayWindow0 On Top" that I've never
seen before.

I have seen it just after boot up, after loading Outlook and at other
random times.

When I hit Enter to open it and hit Insert+Q twice quickly, it tells
me "JAWS for Windows settings are used in the jfw.exe application. The
configuration name is JAWS Window. The current scheme is Classic."

When I hit Insert+F1, I get "JAWS may not recognize this control. To
show JAWS what type of control it is, press Insert+7. To see more
technical information on the control, press Control+Insert+F1."

When I hit Control+Insert+F1, I get,

"Window Technical Information:

Control ID 0

Class OverlayWindowClass_F7A740FA-AB45-4F46-BB58-3DCEDB196F1C

Handle 983746".

So, it shows the Control Id, Class and Handle. Try saying that Class
real fast. Bet you can't.

When I use Alt+Tab to cycle through my open programs, I don't land on
this Overlay Window; even when I've opened it from the window list.

Do any of you JAWS experts have an explanation for this Overlay window?

Thanks,

Reed

Once I open the attachments, via Adobe Acrobat DC, I find that I cannot

Interestingly, when I use my arrow keys and the page up or down keys, the

I'm using Windows 7 and the latest build of Jaws 18 here, along with Adobe

Any suggestions would be apreciated.

Why would this happen and how can I fix it?

save the text to a text file and use notepad or Word to read the file.

[JAWS-Users] Downgrading to JAWS 16

2017-05-25 Thread Gene Warner

Hi everyone!

Back in 2013, when I was finally declared legally blind and had to
switch from Zoom Text to JAWS, JAWS was at version 15.

As I recall, other than having to learn it on my own because the
Lighthouse here is a bad joke, there were few, if any problems I had
with it, it just worked. JAWS 16 was pretty much the same but with the
addition of the very useful command search function.

Then came JAWS 17 with the apparent almost complete rewrite of the
engine. From there it seemed like every time I turned around I was
running into another misfunction of JAWS. Version 18, when it came out
wasn't much better.

So, after long thought, as well as fighting an apparently recalcitrant
version of JAWS, I've finally decided to install version 16 to see how
it compares to version 18. If it works as well as my memory of it
recalls, I will eventually uninstall JAWS 18, and consider not
maintaining my SMA anymore. Besides my dissatisfaction with versions 17
and 18, it seems like most of the enhancements are for Windows 10 and
have no effect on my Windows 7 system which I have no plans to upgrade.
If things do change for the better in the future, I can always
reestablish a new SMA.

I'm just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this idea or has
already preceded me in downgrading back to version 16.

Thanks!

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Problem Advancing Beyond First Page Of PDf Articles

Gene and all:

I want to report that I believe I've solved my problem here.

Thanks to a suggestion by Adrian, the strategy of using Convenient OCR to
convert the document, and then copying and pasting into Notepad has
definitely worked the best.

I had to take some time cleaning up the resulting files, but things now
appear to be fairly readable.

Thanks, all, for your patience as I sorted things out.

Hi

Although this isn't an answer, it is related. The last time I looked at
Adobe Reader DC, I disliked it so much that I removed it and went back to
version 9.5. I had the same reaction when I tried upgrading to Adobe Reader
X.

Even Reader 9.5 isn't my primary pdf reader, for that I use Q Read. I only
use Adobe Reader when I need to print or use JAWS convenient OCR's document
feature on a PDF of page images instead of text. From there I save the text
to a text file and use notepad or Word to read the file.

Tom, I have noticed that when I open a PDF lately the menu pops up for
opening it and when I tab to where it has a combo box where you choose
either to open whole document or the other is open only first page, the
first page option is now on top and I have to arrow down to open the whole
document. You might want to tab slowly to check out that choice.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Downgrading to JAWS 16

2017-05-25 Thread Miriam Vieni
I think that perhaps the latest upgrade of 18 may have fixed the issue I
kept having, which was that Jaws periodically disappeared when I changed
from one window to the next. I may be wrong. I only did the upgrade
yesterday. But it's really expensive to stop paying for those SMA's. The one
for personal use averages out to be $60 a year. Even if you don't use it,
$60 a year is like an insurance plan in case you need a later version. If
you stop paying for them and then need a new version, it will cost a lot
more money.

The page is in either Spanish or Italian. The speech is very fast and I need

That's not my problem, though.

When I select the English option, it actually goes to the English page and

hi Vicki,
I use internet explorer as my default browser. the page is in Italian.
I can tell because eloquence get's slower and starts speaking
roboticly. when I was a kid, I used to mess around with JAWS languages
back in the JAWS 3.7 update days. I remember what languages sound like
with eloquence. when I press enter on the English link, my fan of my
mac with bootcamp speeds up. whatever the page is, it's processer
intensive at least for me. I tried opening the English page in a new
window thinking that would work, but it was still in Italian in the
new window.
hope this helps,

Re: [JAWS-Users] Downgrading to JAWS 16

2017-05-25 Thread John M.

Hi Gene,

I have been using Jaws since version 5. Over the years, I have found that
some versions of Jaws are very good and others are junk. In my opinion,
version 17 is junk. I had upgraded from Jaws 15 to 17. After the upgrade, I
had nothing but problems. After several months of struggling, I eventually
installed version 16 and that is what I am still using today. I tried
version 18 for a short while, but it was still not as stable and reliable as
version 16. I am using Windows 7 also. One more thing...I still use Office
2003, because I just like it a lot. Jaws version 17 support for Office 2003
was terrible.

I always go back to a saying that I have used for years--"Just because you
can doesn't mean you should.". Just because there is a new version of
Windows or Office or Jaws or any other piece of software or hardware,
doesn't mean you have to rush to install it or purchase it. I rely on my
computer on a daily basis to do my job and service my clients. I demand that
my core software is extremely stable and reliable. I have Jaws SMAs through
version 20. I don't know if I will actually switch to those versions. Time
will tell.

Best,
John

Hi everyone!

Back in 2013, when I was finally declared legally blind and had to switch
from Zoom Text to JAWS, JAWS was at version 15.

As I recall, other than having to learn it on my own because the
Lighthouse here is a bad joke, there were few, if any problems I had with
it, it just worked. JAWS 16 was pretty much the same but with the addition
of the very useful command search function.

Then came JAWS 17 with the apparent almost complete rewrite of the engine.
From there it seemed like every time I turned around I was running into
another misfunction of JAWS. Version 18, when it came out wasn't much
better.

So, after long thought, as well as fighting an apparently recalcitrant
version of JAWS, I've finally decided to install version 16 to see how it
compares to version 18. If it works as well as my memory of it recalls, I
will eventually uninstall JAWS 18, and consider not maintaining my SMA
anymore. Besides my dissatisfaction with versions 17 and 18, it seems like
most of the enhancements are for Windows 10 and have no effect on my
Windows 7 system which I have no plans to upgrade. If things do change for
the better in the future, I can always reestablish a new SMA.

I'm just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this idea or has already
preceded me in downgrading back to version 16.

Thanks!

2017-05-25 Thread Adrian Spratt
Gene,

When FS publicizes new features in each annual upgrade, they don't mention what
I believe are a slew of behind-the-scenes changes they make in order to keep on
top of developments on the Web. Sometimes I suspect these background
improvements are what cause a deterioration in performance for some users with
some websites. It's why many JAWS users keep more than one version on their
systems. But if you decide to give up your SMA, you will find the Web
increasingly more difficult to navigate because your old version can't catch
up. That's been my experience as JAWS has gone from V. 2 to today's V. 18.

There are always wrinkles. For example, when you install a new version, it will
share components with any previous versions on your system. It can affect
performance on the old version, which I've experienced. In fact, even when I've
uninstalled an old version, decided I wanted it back, then uninstalled the new
version in order to eliminate shared components, the old version comes back
with problems associated with those shared components. Perhaps I've failed to
get rid of all traces, but I won't mess with the registry. Others here do so
all the time.

I think Miriam's point about the SMA functioning as insurance is a good one. It
fits in with what I'm saying here.

Finally, I see no deterioration in performance between JAWS 16 and 18. In the
past, a JAWS upgrade has made certain websites less easy to navigate, but I
haven't had that experience in a long time. Moreover, there are so many
workarounds now, most of all the success many of us have had with turning the
virtual cursor off in certain situations.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Problem with Jaws and Outlook

2017-05-25 Thread Cher Bosch
Try turning preview pane to off, and When using JAWS, the Outlook Reading
Pane must be set to the bottom of the window or disabled. If the Reading
Pane is set to the right, it forces the Message List Headers into Two-line
mode, and only the first line is announced.

Keep reading for more from the topic.

Cher

This is from the JAWS help topic for Outlook:
Outlook Helpful Hints
The following are some helpful hints for using Outlook with JAWS.

Outlook Reading Pane
When using JAWS, the Outlook Reading Pane must be set to the bottom of the
window or disabled. If the Reading Pane is set to the right, it forces the
Message List Headers into Two-line mode, and only the first line is
announced.

To set the Reading Pane to the bottom of the window, or to disable it, do
the following:

Open Outlook.
Press ALT+V to choose the View tab (Outlook 2010 or later) or View menu.
Choose Reading Pane.
Select Bottom to set the pane to the bottom of the window, or select Off to
disable the reading pane.
Outlook Options
While working in Outlook, you can press INSERT+V to open Quick Settings and
change JAWS options that are specific to Outlook. For more information on
how to use Quick Settings as well as the standard JAWS options that are not
described in this section, see Quick Settings.

Message Follow-Up Flag Indication
When turned on, JAWS announces if a follow-up flag has been applied to the
selected e-mail message. The default setting is Off.

Message Forwarded Flag Indication
When turned on, JAWS announces if a forward flag has been applied to the
selected e-mail message. The default setting is Off.

Use Virtual Cursor for Read-Only Messages
Use this option to have JAWS render read-only messages in the virtual
buffer. E-mail messages that contain complex tables and formatting are often
difficult to read when using Outlook 2007 or later. This is due to Word
being used to render the HTML content. By default, this setting is enabled
and read-only messages will be rendered in the virtual buffer for ease of
reading. Disable this option if you want to interact directly with the Word
Editor rather than reading the message in the Virtual Buffer.

Address List Auto-Complete Announcement
When you type an e-mail address into the To, CC, or BCC edit boxes, Outlook
searches for matches in your address book and then automatically completes
the entry for you. JAWS will now announce the address that Outlook
automatically inserts into the edit box. To disable this feature, press
INSERT+V, select "Address List Auto-Complete Announcement," and press the
SPACEBAR to choose Off.

Information Bar Messages Announcement
In Outlook, the information bar frequently displays useful status
information. For example, this bar informs you when attachments have been
removed from a message, which account a message will be sent from, when you
last replied to the current message, when the appointment/meeting you are
creating conflicts with an existing appointment, when an appointment time
has passed, and so on. If you want JAWS to automatically announce the
contents of the information bar when reading messages, leave this option set
to On.

Message Header Fields Announce with Message Announcement
If this option is set to On, then JAWS automatically reads the From and
Subject fields when you open a message. If you change this option to Off,
then JAWS does not automatically read this information.

Message Type Announcement
When turned on, JAWS announces the sender's message type, for example, HTML
or Plain Text. The default setting is Off.

Link Count Announcement
If you open an e-mail message containing links and this option is turned on,
JAWS indicates the number of links that appear in the message. The default
setting is On.

Messages Automatically Read
If you want JAWS to automatically read the message body from beginning to
end, change this option to On. If you do not want JAWS to automatically read
the message body after reading the message header, then leave this option
set to Off.

Tip: When reading messages automatically, the cursor may move faster than
JAWS speech. If you stop speech with CTRL, you should press CTRL+HOME to
move to the beginning of the message before continuing to read.

Optimizing Outlook
The following are choices and suggestions for optimizing Outlook options for
use with JAWS:

Calendar
Press CTRL+2 to move to the Calendar view. You can use the folowing
keystrokes to select one of four views:

Day, CTRL+ALT+1
Work Week, CTRL+ALT+2
Week, CTRL+ALT+3
Month, CTRL+ALT+4
In all views, use LEFT and RIGHT ARROW to move between the days of the
month. In Day, Week, or Work Week view, use UP and DOWN ARROW to move
between the different time slots for the current day. In Month view, use UP
and DOWN ARROW to move through weeks. Press TAB or SHIFT+TAB to cycle
through your appointments for the current day. To open an appointment,

While on the page, open quick settings with JawsKey + V, then type Language

Good Afternoon,

I have a rather odd issue with a webpage and JAWS.

I will paste the link to the page below so that if anyone would like to take
a look, feel free.

The page is in either Spanish or Italian. The speech is very fast and I need
it slower to figure out the language, I think Spanish.

That's not my problem, though.

When I select the English option, it actually goes to the English page and
shows only English on the screen. However, Jaws is still reading in the
other language.

Why would this happen and how can I fix it?

Here is the link.

Hi,
It depends on what Windows 10 release one is using. The latest builds of 17
and 18 will work reasonably well with Windows 10 Version 1703 (Creators
Update), although for some, audio ducking in JAWS 18 is somewhat broken when
using latest Windows 10 release.
Cheers,

Hi Gene,

I have been using Jaws since version 5. Over the years, I have found that
some versions of Jaws are very good and others are junk. In my opinion,
version 17 is junk. I had upgraded from Jaws 15 to 17. After the upgrade, I
had nothing but problems. After several months of struggling, I eventually
installed version 16 and that is what I am still using today. I tried
version 18 for a short while, but it was still not as stable and reliable as

version 16. I am using Windows 7 also. One more thing...I still use Office
2003, because I just like it a lot. Jaws version 17 support for Office 2003
was terrible.

I always go back to a saying that I have used for years--"Just because you

Hello,

With Windows Version 10.0.14393, when I hit Insert+F10 to show "window

seen before.

Thanks,

Reed

Type the beginning of the e-mail address or name into the to-field, and when
you have typed approxymate 2 to 3 letters, press insert+up arrow, to read

Is this correct, continue to the subject field, otherwise type more letters

correct receiver of the e-mail.

Hope you'll be lucky with Jaws 18.

For word count, press control-shift-g.

As for the status line not reading a line number, I occasionally experience
this when either Outlook 2010 or JAWS gets tired or when I have more than one

I am so envious. I tried so hard to keep Office 2003, but Word was somewhat
corrupted and I had to really play around with it to get it to work
properly part of the time. And then Outlook began producing multiple copies
of emails. I had a patch that was supposed to take care of such problems,
but it stopped. And I was using magic at a very high magnification. My old
Magic wouldn't work with newer versions of Jaws like 16 and the new version
of Magic wouldn't work with Office 2003. So then someone installed new
everything for me. Jaws 18 seems to be a bit better after yesterday's
upgrade. At least I hope it is. But there are certain kinds of html emails
that Jaws did fine with in Outlook 2003, and that, even with all kinds of
work arounds, it's difficult to deal with, with Jaws in later versions of
Office. I retired 10 years ago. Otherwise, I'd be tearing my hair out!

Re: [JAWS-Users] Downgrading to JAWS 16

2017-05-25 Thread Gene Warner

Hi

Yeah, I'm finding out that most people that aren't using the latest
version of JAWS are using version 16, which is encouraging.

I use Windows 7 because I hated the Metro interface Microsoft tried to
force on us in Windows 8, and because I believe Microsoft is over
reaching their authority with some of the changes they made in Windows
10. It's my Computer damn it! And nobody but me has the right to tell me
what software runs on it! When they restore the user's ability to decide
which updates get installed on their computers, among other things, then
I'll consider Windows 10.

I used to have Office XP which I really liked, but gave it to my dad and
got Office 2007 because I could get it for $10 through my employer. If I
could have, I'd have gotten 2003 to avoid the ribbons.

So far JAWS 16 is proving to be quite stable, however the dictionary
manager still keeps crashing when it is first run, I was hoping that
that was a version 17 and 18 problem that would go away with the switch
to 16, oh well.

I found out that it gets pricey if you let your SMA lapse, so for $5 a
month, I'll keep it current even if I don't use those newer versions of
JAWS.

So, after long thought, as well as fighting an apparently
recalcitrant version of JAWS, I've finally decided to install version
16 to see how it compares to version 18. If it works as well as my
memory of it recalls, I will eventually uninstall JAWS 18, and
consider not maintaining my SMA anymore. Besides my dissatisfaction
with versions 17 and 18, it seems like most of the enhancements are
for Windows 10 and have no effect on my Windows 7 system which I have
no plans to upgrade. If things do change for the better in the future,
I can always reestablish a new SMA.

I'm just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this idea or has
already preceded me in downgrading back to version 16.

Thanks!

Re: [JAWS-Users] Downgrading to JAWS 16

2017-05-25 Thread Gene Warner

Hi!

From what some have said about some web sites being harder to navigate
with older versions of JAWS, I have decided not to uninstall JAWS 18, it
just won't be my primary screen reader. I also have NVDA installed for
those few programs, mostly games written with BGT, that don't play well
with any version of JAWS. There are also parts of some web sites that
don't work right with JAWS, for those too I'll switch to NVDA. I don't
like NVDA as much as I like JAWS, but it does get me around those few
things that JAWS won't do.

Hi everyone!

Back in 2013, when I was finally declared legally blind and had to switch from
Zoom Text to JAWS, JAWS was at version 15.

As I recall, other than having to learn it on my own because the Lighthouse
here is a bad joke, there were few, if any problems I had with it, it just
worked. JAWS 16 was pretty much the same but with the addition of the very
useful command search function.

Then came JAWS 17 with the apparent almost complete rewrite of the engine.
From there it seemed like every time I turned around I was running into
another misfunction of JAWS. Version 18, when it came out wasn't much better.

So, after long thought, as well as fighting an apparently recalcitrant
version of JAWS, I've finally decided to install version 16 to see how it

In fact, the Windows key is employed with a number of fantastic JAWS
keystrokes. One which I have come to use on an hourly basis is control plus
windows plus k to mark a spot in a word document.
One may later jump back to that spot instantly with just windows plus k;
however, even more cool is the ability, in Word, to mark text from your
cursor to the marked spot, and it doesn't matter whether, in the document,
your cursor is ahead of the marked spot or behind it or whether it is 4
words or 40 pages away. You mark text back to the marked spot with JAWS key
plus space bar and then m.
Then, you can use control c to copy or control x to cut or windows c to
append.
Try it! You'll like it!

All other screen readers see and read the message body column I have in this

I will check out some of the other settings you have and see if they help.

Pane is set to the right, it forces the Message List Headers into Two-line
mode, and only the first line is announced.

Keep reading for more from the topic.

Use Virtual Cursor for Read-Only Messages Use this option to have JAWS
render read-only messages in the virtual buffer. E-mail messages that
contain complex tables and formatting are often difficult to read when using
Outlook 2007 or later. This is due to Word being used to render the HTML
content. By default, this setting is enabled and read-only messages will be
rendered in the virtual buffer for ease of reading. Disable this option if
you want to interact directly with the Word Editor rather than reading the
message in the Virtual Buffer.

INSERT+V, select "Address List Auto-Complete Announcement," and press
INSERT+the
SPACEBAR to choose Off.

If you want JAWS to automatically announce the
contents of the information bar when reading messages, leave this option set
to On.

Message Header Fields Announce with Message Announcement If this option is
set to On, then JAWS automatically reads the From and Subject fields when
you open a message. If you change this option to Off, then JAWS does not
automatically read this information.

Calendar
Press CTRL

You have to het f6, then you can hit right arrow and read the page number on
the status line on the bottom if insert page down does not work.

Mike,

For word count, press control-shift-g.

As for the status line not reading a line number, I occasionally experience
this when either Outlook 2010 or JAWS gets tired or when I have more than
one document open. A reboot overcomes the exhaustion factor, while giving a
name to a new document fixes the other cause.

Thanks, Justin. I wonder if this is for a version of Word later than 2010. I
just tried this method with 2010. It doesn't work at all when I press F6 just
