Re: [JAWS-Users] how do you find specific text in outlook

2017-08-08 Thread Adrian Spratt
Hi, Ted. Welcome to JAWS!

To search within an open message, add the JAWS key to control-f. this three-key
combination comes in useful in many common applications even when control-f
also works.

To search through the messages in a folder, place focus at one of the folder's
messages and press shift-control-f. this is a Microsoft command. An alternative
is to press control-e, another MS command.

Dear List:

I just migrated from window-eyes to jaws. I know that the jaws Find command is
control-F. However, in outlook, the control-F is the Forward command.
What procedure do I use to find text in Outlook? Do I use some sort of bypass
or override hot key? Thanks. Regards: Ted Larson

Yep. VFO ran a repair for me too yesterday using the method Adrian

Hi. I'm writing to explain the new JAWS repair method I learned today from
VFO. Previously, I'd taken the file of the currently running JAWS build, put
it in the C drive, copied the exact wording into a Windows run dialog, etc.
this procedure failed twice for me today. VFO seems to know about this
because when I called, they had me follow the procedure I'll detail below,
and it worked. I don't know why it is different, but somehow it is. So, here
goes.

First, make sure you have the .exe file on your system for the JAWS build
you're running. You can download it from the FS/VFO website.

Unlike before, it doesn't seem to matter where you keep it on your system.

Close all running apps.

Highlight the JAWS .exe file.

Press shift-F10.

Arrow up to "Copy as path." Press enter.

Open the run dialog with Windows key-r.

Press control-v, then spacebar, then / (the forward slash key), then the
word "type", spacebar, and then the word "repair."

Let me try that command line a different way. After pressing control-v
followed by the spacebar, continue with /type repair

Then press enter.

The process went more smoothly than any JAWS repair I can remember, and it
went all the way to the end.

I hope this is useful.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Inquiry

2017-08-08 Thread Adrian Spratt
I think the best way to answer your query is to explain how the JAWS menu is
laid out. But don't begin by pressing alt after you've pressed JAWS key+j. so:

JAWS key+j opens the JAWS menu
Right away, JAWS verbalizes "Options submenu." You can use your up and down
arrow keys for other choices or press enter to open the options submenu.
If you open the options submenu, you'll find other choices that you can locate
by pressing the up and down arrow keys. For example, there's so-called "Basics"
and two "voice" dialogs. Press enter on the one you want and proceed through
the dialog by tabbing.
If, instead of pressing enter on "options" you arrow up, you'll notice such
choices as "About," "Help," "Utilities," and so on. Most of these choices are
submenus. You press enter to locate the choices within the submenu.

To my mind, a shortcoming in the JAWS menu is that once you click on something
and then escape out of it, you simultaneously escape out of the JAWS menu
system. If you're exploring the menu, it means being bounced out of it and
pressing JAWS key+j several times. But the effort is worth it.

I hope this is clear.

I only get the options heading, and under that is About JAWS and Exit. The next
heading is the System heading. Any suggestions/advice for this? Many thanks in

To follow up on Fernando's explanation, putting JAWS in the system tray saves
the annoyance of finding JAWS every time you cycle through open applications
with alt-tab. You bring JAWS up only when you want to with JAWS
key+j.

When you say that the JAWS screen disappeared, it is because you have checked
the Run JAWS from System Tray option in the Basic Settings dialog, which
display JAWS as a background application icon on the system tray (right near
the clock at the bottom of the screen) instead of as an opened window on the
taskbar. BTW, you won't find JAWS by using ALT+TAB or the JAWS Window List
