Re: [JAWS-Users] Internet Explorer or Jaws?
That's interesting. When I tried to run FF 57 with JAWS 18, I got a message warning me that my screen-reader would not function properly. This was a message/alert that came from Firefox itself, and not JAWS. And indeed, JAWS did not really work at all. However, the programme did not crash. Whatever the case though, I'd still be curious to know why it is that there isn't even rudimentary support for FS Quantum in JAWS. It would seem that even with NVDA 17.3, the version I have as I still haven't installed the update, the change in Firefox was somewhat anticipated, and attempts were made to support it. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Andy Baracco Sent: December 15, 2017 6:38 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Internet Explorer or Jaws? If Edge had menus and worked completely with Jaws I might switch, same for Chrome. Firefox never worked well for me. Microsoft has to realize many of us use IE for its ease of use and they should fix the problems, not all of us love Edge and the fact that it has taken over two years since its release to make it somewhat accessible is reprehensible. No keystrokes available or let's say easily found to operate Edge in the same way is IE. Guessing isn't really something I want to take time to do. Every time a family member uses Edge here nothing reads and Yes, Jaws is set to read Edge. I dislike Edge partly because of lack of keystrokes I can get to easily, partly because in my experience it never works well and I don't want to have to type in the web address for every page I visit, if URLs were shorter maybe but I have loads of pages in favorites in IE, accessed with Alt A, nothing in Edge and no way that is visible or accessible that I have found to import or access without memorizing every URL I use, not happening. So, for now I stick with what works and yell at the computer when it hangs, become unhappy but at least 99% of what I need is right where I put it with keystrokes available if I happen to forget one. Maybe sighted people do not need menus, or keystrokes, I personally work best with a menu or even a ribbon. His is my opinion and your mileage will vary. Give me a super reason to use Edge including keeping my home page of my choice, a way to access sites without having to go to the run command and type in the full URL as Jonathan does on the podcasts, allow me the flexibility I experience 99% of the time in IE but without the crashes and I may move to using it. Chrome has many of the same issues as Edge, no menus, no visible keystrokes, it is a guessing game and I don't usually have time to play three guesses and none of them count. Accessibility, great for those who can see the screen even with magnification in each browser, not so great for those of us who depend on Jaws alone because we can't get clues from the screen any other way and why it has taken more than two years to do a halfway job of fixing this, leaving all the fixes to third parties who can't get where they need to make it fast and easy is a point against Microsoft! Accessibility seems to rule, only if you can somewhat see the screen. Re: [JAWS-Users] Internet Explorer or Jaws?
I don't know. I've always had these sorts of problems with internet Explorer, mostly with it closing unexpectedly because of some error, or scripts on a page just slowing everything down so much that they stopped working. Back in the day, most of my IT friends were telling people not to use IE. It took me a long time to get on board with Firefox, when I was using my XP machine, and even then I ended up going back to iE from time to time because sometimes it did seem like JAWS worked nicely with it. As time went on, though, I found this to be less and less the case. It got to the point where many of my favourite websites just did not work properly in IE anymore. You could still use them, but some of the functionality just wasn't available. Now when I try to go to goodreads.com with iE, for instance, I can't even find my own reviews when I click on a book's page. The WWW is just leaving Internet Explorer behind, and Microsoft has acknowledged this by bringing in an entire new browsing experience: Edge. Edge is n o good for me though, and I'm not going to settle for something that works so poorly. But Microsoft has never really dissuaded anyone from using third party products, and well they shouldn't. At this point, I think that's really what most of us have to do. It would be nice if browsers, as well as other software, had accessibility built into them, and I guess that is the "new paradigm" of things. This way the screen-reader developers wouldn't constantly have to be struggling to keep up. But, I guess this isn't really the problem, as far as IE goes, most of the time. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Judy Jones Sent: December 14, 2017 8:32 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: [JAWS-Users] Internet Explorer or Jaws? Thanks. I did find directions to turn on the sounds, but I didn't know that there was a way to just turn on the notification when something is downloaded. Re: [JAWS-Users] Internet Explorer or Jaws?
A lot of sighted people, or that is, mostly computer "experts", prefer to have keystrokes. I haven't really bothred with Edge because I mostly love Firefox and find that it works great. However, it is indeed surprising if it's as unkeyboard-friendly as all that. The reason I say that is that Microsoft, more than anyone else, is usually really good with making sure everything is perfectly workable from the keyboard. They don't do this for blind users, necessarily, but of course it works out very well for us, too. Windows 10 is full of great keyboard tricks, and you'd really think Edge would follow suit. Ah well. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of rosecomb...@cox.net Sent: December 15, 2017 10:38 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Internet Explorer or Jaws? It also looks like you're voice dictating, you might want to proof what you have written, especially with a new job. The new job is freaking amazing! I say that, because I have yet to come across any "in accessible" tool. I am learning more about flexible web, to make my job a hell of a lot easier, and eventually I'll be substantially faster than any other agent on the floor. But, we have a slight issue! Good job consists of a lot of copying and pasting, while switching between windows. Which is OK, except yesterday we noticed that when I selected text in chrome, and pressed control seat, that text was not copied to the clipboard. The trainer sitting next to me said that she saw me highlight the text, but when we posted in notepad, the last object prior to meet selecting the text from the webpage and copying it was what was posted. We are running the latest version of windows 10 (I think now I need to look). And jars version 2018. (Again today I'm going to check for update). Has anyone came crossed the control see keystroke not copying text, and if so, how did you fix it? IT is open to doing whatever I need them to do in order to make me successful, it helps that there are people on my team that I work with seven years ago while taking calls for sprint and the software was not even 25 percent as accessible as the software as were using now. There are a few arrows that don't have alternative text for them, and I'm working my way through them. And yesterday I couldn't and a chat, but I think that was due to my lack of jaws keystrokes in later versions. Last night me and the help files became familiar with each other ag.. The end chat button is found under VE Arrow next to your email address or username if your organization doesn't use email addresses for Simon. It is possible to click the button, because somehow I accidentally ended a chat yesterday, so when I figure that out I'll write up a quick guide for anyone who needs it. Hope everyone's having a great Friday. Oh yeah, and I reminded myself about frames, and I'm excited to implement them within the chat program. That's going to save a lot of headache too. Re: [JAWS-Users] Internet Explorer or Jaws?
Hi Tom, Try resetting your IE. Here are the instructions below. How to reset IE 11: I would recommend re setting IE. Here are the steps to do that. 1. Open IE 2. Press alt + T for tools menu. 3. Press up arrow once and you should be on options. Press the enter key. 4. Press shift + Tab and you should hear General. 5. Press the right arrow key until you hear advance. 6. Tab until you hear reset button. 7. Press enter on the reset button. 8. A dialog box will come up. Press tab once and you will hear something about checking this box to delete personal information. Press the spacebar here to check this check box. 9. Tab twice to the reset button and press the spacebar. Wait a few minutes then close IE and reopen it. Now it should work like new. Note: checking the box about removing personal information will not remove your favorites in IE. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of my mail Sent: Friday, December 15, 2017 12:20 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Internet Explorer or Jaws? hello; well, I did take a look at Tom's computer, using WLM, the view was messed up, I did fix the view, everything was working, however, he seems to be having the issue again. I believe one of the issues is, perhaps one of his accounts is not working properly, hense, when an error comes up, there's nothing he can do with the keyboard to get into the file menu. if I do connect to his computer again, I will look for the accounts. in one account there were many messages sitting in the outbox, obviously, there's issue with that account. we'll see what happen's. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of David Bailes Sent: Friday, December 15, 2017 11:49 AM To: Jaws UsersSubject: Re: [JAWS-Users] unhide wlm toolbar wlm is no longer supported by microsoft, and so you can't download wlm from the microsoft website any more. Re: [JAWS-Users] Internet Explorer or Jaws?
I noticed that when I switch from JAWS 14 to JAWS 2018 the switch works very well. If I reverse the action going from JAWS 2018 to JAWS 14, that even though 14 seems to load, there is no speech until I restart the computer. Is there a fix for this? Thanks. The new job is freaking amazing! I say that, because I have yet to come across any “in accessible“ tool. I am learning more about flexible web, to make my job a hell of a lot easier, and eventually I’ll be substantially faster than any other agent on the floor. (Again today I’m going to check for update). Oh, and the kind of might have chatted our team lead up, and said once I’m set in my ways I’ll be as productive if not more productive than any other team member. Also sidenote, live person the chat client “live engage” (a product produced by the company live person called live in gauge) is I would say 90 percent accessible on chrome. There are a few arrows that don’t have alternative text for them, and I’m working my way through them. And yesterday I couldn’t and a chat, but I think that was due to my lack of jaws keystrokes in later versions. Last night me and the help files became familiar with each other again.. The end chat button is found under VE Arrow next to your email address or username if your organization doesn’t use email addresses for Simon. It is possible to click the button, because somehow I accidentally ended a chat yesterday, so when I figure that out I’ll write up a quick guide for anyone who needs it. Now, you need to tab to Okay, press spacebar, & I believe tab to, Okay, again & press enter to save your changes. Now this folder will always be accessible. Remember to go back into folder options & hide your files & folders again. - Original Message - From: Kimsan To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Thursday, December 14, 2017 11:08 AM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] enu folder Thanks, that is what I thought. [JAWS-Users] Copying and pasting on the new job
Hey there everyone. The new job is freaking amazing! I say that, because I have yet to come across any “in accessible“ tool. I am learning more about flexible web, to make my job a hell of a lot easier, and eventually I’ll be substantially faster than any other agent on the floor. (Again today I’m going to check for update). Hope everyone’s having a great Friday. Oh yeah, and I reminded myself about frames, and I’m excited to implement them within the chat program. That’s going to save a lot of headache too. Especially, since I think I read I can copy the text within a frame… Which is information that I need for my Notes anyways… With my best regards Michael Host of the your own pay podcast… Find it in your favorite podcast app For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/

Hello, Listers, Again, I need another reminder. When wanting to download in Google Chrome. With IE, you can press alt-N and have the choice of open or save. This option is not available in Google Chrom per sae, but there must be another way to get to any information bar like you would with alt-N in internet explorer. Thanks for the how-to reminder. Since MS is no longer developing IE I think VFO is not going to keep supporting it. Either that or they are very lazy about fixing the hang issue with IE since it has been going on for a couple of years now. I dont like the way things are going for us. firefox has decided blind accessibility is not important and Edge is not supported by Jaws very well and IE is getting left behind that leaves us with Chrome... Good for Google not so good for us... On 12/14/2017 5:31 PM, Judy Jones wrote: Hello again, Revisiting an old question. Wit, it seems, most everyone noticing the hangup of Internet Explorer at inopportune moments, is this due to the way it is now interacting with Jaws? Is there a fix that the developers need to buckle down and work on, or is this an uncooperative Microsoft issue? I have noticed this behavior in the last several versions of Jaws, but what can we users do to help "make it better?" Thanks in advance for the input.
