[JAWS-Users] when creating, replying or forwarding a message in windows Mail, jaws rapidly repeats what ever letter the curser is sitting on

2009-10-22 Thread Andrew Godwin
Greetings all,

I'm running the new build of JAWS 11 on a Vista box and when creating, replying
or forwarding a message in windows Mail, jaws rapidly repeats what ever letter
the curser is sitting on.

Got any thoughts on how to fix this? I tried a JAWS repair.

Thanks for any suggestions,
Andrew

Hi Listers. I use Google as my primary search engine, and starting
yesterday, for no apparent reason that I can determine, JAWS started
announcing Promote button and Remove button after every heading in
the search results when I arrow down line by line from a heading.
However, hitting Space or Enter on these objects has no effect, so they
cannot be activated. I have not changed any settings in IE 7. This is a
minor annoyance, but I would still like to know what the heck is going
on. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

Well after only a few minutes I am glad to report that the sluggishness
in outlook express seems to have been cleared up quite nicely, and also
the reply directly to sender script is working for me just fine. So far
I'm liking this latest offering. My next test will be tandem which did
work fine under the beta cycle.

Yes, but according to the Tandem FAQ, you can download and run a 40 minute
mode version of JAWS 10 on the target computer as long as the controller
computer has an authorized version of JAWS 10.

Hey Gang,
In my excel spread sheet, my formula keeps on saying
text is obscured white in column.
In this column is the total of my additions. It is fine all the way down
to

cell 65, but after that I get this saying.
Could some one tell me how I can get it to say the formula. I have tried
to

copy and paste, but no luck.
I looked at the formula and it is the same in 66 as it is in 65.
I'm running jaws 8, windows XP, and excel 03.
Thanks for all help.

The question asked by this fellow JAWS user was, if access for Remote

However, I am unable to back this answer up with documentation. So, again,
If any one has any, please forward it.

Re: [JAWS-Users] access for Remote Desktop question

2008-07-29 Thread ANDREW GODWIN
Thanks Aiden, and below is a bit of info for those of you that may have been
following this thread.

Overview of JAWS Remote Access
Remote access software, like Citrix Program Neighborhood and Remote Desktop
Connection, allows you to establish a connection from your computer (called
the client) to another computer (called the server). Once connected, you
can run programs and view files just as if you were sitting at the server's
keyboard. The server handles all processing and data storage tasks. The
client computer acts as an intermediary between you and the server, relaying
your commands and displaying the results.

Visually, users see a graphical representation of the server's desktop on
their client computer. However, the version of JAWS installed on the client
cannot read or interact with this image. With JAWS remote access, you
install a version of JAWS on the server to provide speech and braille access
to programs you use while in a terminal session. The version of JAWS
installed on the server sends the output to the client through a virtual
channel. The version of JAWS installed on the client computer then relays
this output to the user through a synthesizer and/or braille display.

The Remote Access feature is only available for licenses of JAWS
Professional that use Internet License Manager (ILM) or Dongle
authorization. The Remote Access feature must be purchased separately.
Contact Freedom Scientific Sales for more information.

Note: You cannot use the thumb drive version of JAWS in terminal sessions.
You must actually install a full non-thumb drive version of JAWS on the
Client prior to attempting a terminal or remote session.

[JAWS-Users] hide or unhide a column with Excel 2007?

2008-07-16 Thread Andrew Godwin
Greetings All,

This one goes out to any one that is using a Vista box, running JAWS 9 with the
latest updates and Office 2007. I received a Excel file that was created in a
earlier version of Excel. if I open this file with Excel 2007 I am unable to
hide or unhide a column, but, it allows me to sort. However, if I open the file
with Excel 2000 3, it works fine. Note, when opening the file using Excel 2007
it says opening in compatibility mode or something like that. I then received
the following screen when trying to hide a Colum.

(Andrew.7.1.08 - Microsoft ExcelNew Window indow 100Microsoft
Excelc.Andrew.7.1.08 el

age Layout Formulas Data Review View

Home Insert Page Layout For las Data Review View

New Window

Arrange AllNormal Page Show/Hide Zoom 100% Zoom to Save Switch Macros

Layout Selection Freeze Panes Workspace Windows

Workbook Views Zoom Window Macros

Ready 100%)

So, my questions are, I don't think it is but I'll ask anyway, Is this a JAWS
compatibility issue? If not, what do I need to do? Convert the file? If so,
how? Is there a patch I need to install? if so, wear do I get it?

Thanks for any and all suggestions,

Andrew

Greetings all,

I do love how JAWS 9 now retains the formatting when selecting and copying from

There are times that I would like to strip the formatting from a web page.

Hi,

You can change this option on the fly by going to the Jaws options tree view
by pressing the Jaws key plus V.

To make the change, do the following:

1. Open your web browser.

2. Press the Jaws key plus V to open the new tree view for Jaws options.

3. Press the down arrow key to find the option for select and copy. This is
found under the virtual cursor options. You should have to press the down
arrow key three or four times to find this option.

4. When you find the select and copy option, you can press the tab key to
move to the help window. Use the say all command to read the help
information for the select and copy option.

5. Use the shift tab key to move back to the tree view. Press the space bar
to change the options for the select and copy option. To make the option
work the way it did in earlier versions of Jaws without retaining the
formatting, select the from virtual cursor option.

I hope this helps,
Ryan

Re: [JAWS-Users] Accessabillity of Online Music Services

2007-09-10 Thread Andrew Godwin
I had know problems using the XP burning utility to burn Wal-Mart songs on
to CD for play back on a standard CD player. As well, after the initial
download and setup of there software, it is one of the most user friendly
music sites out there in my opinion. The one downfall is that they don't
appear to have some of the old school stuff.

I heard that you have to repurchase the songs after a period of time
through
the Wal-Mart site because the license you get is for a limited time. Have
you been able to burn to CD from the downloaded files? Have you had that
experience of having to repurchase the songs?

 Hello everyone,

I am looking into different online music services such as Napster,
Rhapsody, and if nothing else iTunes. I was just wondering, which, if
any, of the online music services have the best user interface when
 using
JAWS 8.0? I know there are scripts for iTunes but I rather dislike
 having

to pay for the scripts unless the program is the best out there. I'm
 not
trying to download the music for an iPod, simply just to have on my
 computer and burn onto CDs.

 Thanks,

Re: [JAWS-Users] Accessabillity of Online Music Services

2007-09-10 Thread Andrew Godwin
I didn't check out this site, so, this is a question not a statement. song
prices this low make me think. Is this site on the up and up? what I mean
is, am I going to get a letter from the prosecutors office stating that I
have been inadvertently stealing music? and how would one go about checking
to be sure this doesn't happen?

 the pricing is great too!

 Thanks again!

 Hi Michael,

About 2 weeks ago I joined a music service called eMusic. I have spent
 some
time researching music services and finally chose this one for the
 following
 reasons:

 - it has over 2 million songs from 13000 labels in the MP3 format

 - you get 25 free downloads during the 2 week trial period that are
 yours
to keep regardless what you decide to do after the trial

 - how's $.33 a song sound? You heard me. And depending on what program
you subscribe to it can be less. Check out the following:

1. $9.99 for 30 songs for about $.33 a song

2. $14.99 for 60 songs for about $.30 a song

3. $19.99 for 75 songs for about $.27 a song

You download a download manager. I use Windows Media Player 11 to
play, burn CD's, and sync to a Creative Zen M. So far so go. I've
 included
a link below for you to visit and get the details. It is Jaws
 compatible.
Good luck. Let me know if I can be of any further help.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Accessabillity of Online Music Services

 Hello everyone,

I am looking into different online music services such as Napster,
 Rhapsody,
and if nothing else iTunes. I was just wondering, which, if any, of the
online music services have the best user interface when using JAWS 8.0?
 I
know there are scripts for iTunes but I rather dislike having to pay for
 the
scripts unless the program is the best out there. I'm not trying to
download the music for an iPod, simply just to have on my computer and
 burn
 onto CDs.

 Thanks,
 Michael

Re: [JAWS-Users] e-mail scanning

2007-08-16 Thread ANDREW GODWIN
I may be mistaken, but it sounds like Sarah performed the following steps,
witch does not disable your incoming or out going email scanner.

Instructions For Removing the Scan Message When Using AVG Free Eddition
Note: Does Not Disable The Email Scanner At All

this does not disable your virus scanner in any way. The only thing it does
is turn off the notice that your emails have been scanned by AVG anti virus.

1. Open AVG, tab once to the control center button and tap space bar.
2. Use alt plus V to open the view menu and down arrow to the components
submenu icon and then tap enter.
3. Down arrow to the email scanner icon and then tap enter.
4. Tab to the configure button and then tap enter.
5. Tab to and uncheck the two Certify mail checkboxes.
6. Now tab to the OK button and enter and then tab to the OK button again
and enter. This should have eliminated the problem and you now can close AVG
Free with alt plus F4.

: In a recent message, Sarah mentions turning off the e-mail scanning
: feature of AVG. She indicated that the computer would scan
: everything every day anyhow. I am a bit concerned about the
: recommendation.
:
: 1. To assume that everyone has their task manager set up to scan the
: entire system every day is a dangerous and probably incorrect
: observation. Not every person has the time or inclination to allow
: their AVG to perform that task. I agree that it is a good idea but
: for some, it just isn't practical.
:
: 2. Allowing a vital part of your antivirus protection to be disabled
: is, for most people, an extremely fool hardy thing to do. It doesn't
: take much for something to get into your system and contaminate it to
: the point that the computer might even stop working entirely.
: Believe me people, I've been there.
:
: 3. Sarah is, based on her helpful suggestions and excellent grasp of
: technology and software, a highly competent computer user.
: Unfortunately, not all of us have her expertise. Whereas Sarah might
: catch a contaminated file in time to deal with it, others might not.
: We all can't even begin to compare to her knowledge and ability.
: However, I must raise a serious objection to her last idea. In my
: opinion, based on years of computer operation and many painful
: experiences, no one should ever turn off their e-mail scanning for
: any reason.
: AVG examines each and every e-mail before it is allowed to be put
: onto the hard drive for reading. That may take longer but it's worth
: every second. AVG is, again in my opinion, a very reasonable piece
: of software which works quite well with Jaws. AVG is no Cadillac and
: has very little unnecessary program utilization. Okay, so maybe it
: was originally stolen from other similar programs. For years now, it
: has demonstrated remarkable efficiency in doing what it's supposed to
: do. The original versions might have been derived from pirated
: software as some have indicated, but it has gone far beyond those

It should be in tools and then auto correct. That's in word 2003. I know not
about 2007.

I looked in the user option, the text section, it wasn't there either.
Can someone let me know what section to find it in?

When enabled, it attempts to correct your typing on the fly, i. e.
spelling, and, I ahink, grammar as well, but I'm not sure about the
 latter.

this setting and how do I use it? I am using the latest version of JAWS

If David is OK with this, could you email the access notes to him to put up

Hi Julie, This is Vicky. Sorry that it took so long to get back to you! A
lot has been happening and I needed to be out of town.

However, about the Access tutorials, Yes, I think they still have uce. They
introduce the Access program and show you what Access can do for you and how
you can tailor it for your needs.

Whenever, their command did not work, I just used the ALT key and looked
through the menus to find a command that sounded like it would do the same
thing.

As I went through the tutorial, I wrote down notes and put in all the
command keystrokes for my own cheetsheet.

I still think it would be valuable to you.

Sincerely Vicky

Yes the latest version is much better but I still have an occasional focus
problem when going from one email to another, by using the delete key and
jumping to the next message. This is in OE.
Thanks,
George R. MarshallI had that same problem, so I'm back to 7.10. I was

Re: [JAWS-Users] Getting JAWS to announce Column and row headers in a Word table

2007-06-08 Thread ANDREW GODWIN
Place your curser in the intersecting cell of the column and row you are
defining as the headings, then use insert V to open the JAWS verbosity and
tap space bar on (Set Column Titles Row - Not Defined for Table 1) and then
on, (Set Row Titles Column - Not Defined for Table 1). now just alt F4 out
of there and JAWS will now read the column and row headings as you navigate
thru the table.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Getting JAWS to announce Column and row headers in a
Word table

Hello All,
Is it possible when working in a MS-Word Table to have JAWS read the column
headers and the row headers, as you use Control+Alt+Arrows to move around in
the table?
I have a table with 6 columns and 6 rows. Column 1 is called stations. So
the first cell in each row is the name of the station, i.e. soup, main dish,
dessert, beverages, etc. Columns 2 through 6 are the days Monday through
Friday. I would like to be able to hear the column headers when I move from
column to column, and hear the row headers when moving up and down in a
column.
Is this possible? What do I need to do to the table do have this happen?
What do I need to do with JAWS to make this happen?
Thanks,
Annette

If you want these blocked addresses not to get to your deleted folder, you
could block them at your server's site. I have done this at sbc.yahoo.com
where I log in and then I go to mail options there's a link to
 block/unblock
 email addresses.
Also an easier way to do that is, check your mail at your server but don't
have your email client open when doing this or otherwise the emails will
 go
to the inbox, well guess you could I was thinking in my case I don't keep
 a
copy of emails on my server so if OE is open they all download into my
 inbox.
So if I wanted to block a mass of Spam for instance..I just log into my
server go to my inbox and arrow through the emails checking the box for
 the
one to block then when I get to the bottom I press the Spam button and
 that
action places all the checked emails into a blocked list and supposedly I
 do
not get them in my inbox again..

I found them in deleted messages so I suppose I can dump them to recycle
if
I want to do that. However, the list remains as a blocked senders list.
 I
guess that is so that one can unblock them if desired in the future.
