I am currently using Quicken 2003 on a Windows 10 computer with latest Jaws
18. I am having problems with it and want to upgrade to a newer version of
Quicken. I just use it to record my checking account transactions. What is
the latest version of Quicken that is accessible with jaws 18? Amazon has
Quicken 2017 for $25.

Each month the date reverts back to January1. It is the weather for the

Yes indeed, weather underground has changed, and not for the better. We
now get only current weather information, and no longer future weather
information, such as for the next day.

Who needs to know the weather for tomorrow anyway? I do.

tried that, tried Control spacebar, tried enter tried alt down arrow,
nothing will activate the address type chooser.

Hello Dixie,

You can use CTRL+spacebar on the address type button to get a menu of
choices. If you select home by pressing enter on the home choice, you can
tab and fill in the home address in the edit box. Press CTRL+spacebar on
the address type button again to make a different choice and use the edit
box to fill in a work or other type of address. You can do the same on the
buttons for phone type to get choices like car phone, company phone, call
back, pager, TTY and other choices not shown by default in the regular
dialog.

Take care.

 Hi all,

I just got a new HP 64 bit laptop, with a full keyboard. I purchased the
full keyboard computer so I wouldn't have to deal with the laptop
configuration. With this new computer though, I need to press the
 function
key to use any of the Jaws f key functions. Is there a way to switch the
default on the function keys so that the function key needs to be pressed
for the opposite of what it is presently set up to?

For example,, the f12 key is presently default to turn on and off the
internet. In order to read the time I must press, the fn key, the f12 and
the Jaws key. As you can imagine, while trying to do the links list Jaws
key f7, on the internet this is a feat in dexterity! I want to make that
the secondary function of the f 12 key and let the Jaws key f12 speak the
time and date as it did on my old computer.

Is this a possibility? How would one accomplish this task?

 Thanks in advance,

Hello.

since solona seems to be down and out would u pl recommend another
alternative solution that would allow a blind person using JFW to find out
the character string in a captcha?

simpler the better. I recall (may be I'm wrong) qwitter or something like
that that makes Twitter accessible also allows u to get the captcha
character string over twitter. that to me is not an elegant solution by far
as those of us who have zero interest in Twitter will be forced t to first
sign up on twitter and learn it and then only be able to get captcha
support. Kinda like reaching for your nose around the head and being forced
to scratch other noses on the way to your own.

I am starting to feel terrible! I tried my own steps today and they didn't
work! There must be something in the JAWS scripts that are preventing the
normal Windows functions that I suggested. I have done the steps I
suggested many times in the past with different programs and never had a
problem. It doesn't appear to be a permissions problem as I have my
permissions giving full control and I am showing as the owner of the folder.
I even tried opening the JDF file in Notepad, copying the text and then
pasting it in the other JDF file but when I closed it and saved it, the
changes I made were gone after I opened the target JDF file again.

I really apologize. I thought I had done this yesterday but apparently not.
I'll continue to investigate this and welcome any comments or suggestions

for Outlook Express to be merged. If you want to use the merge utility then
you can find the merge menu choice in the JAWS interface window and in the
utilities menu.

REPLACING OUTLOOK EXPRESS.JDF IN JAWS 11 WITH OUTLOOK EXPRESS.JDF IN JAWS 10

There are two places to look for the Outlook Express.JDF file in each
version of JAWS. One of these two places is in explore my settings and
the other one is in Explore shared settings. You can access each of those
through the JAWS program group in the start menu.

1.Use Windows key to activate the Windows start menu.

2. Move focus into the all programs group. In XP you can press the
letter P while focus is in the start menu to move to the program groups. If
there is only one P in your start menu then focus will go directly into the
submenu. If there is more than one P in your start menu then press that
letter until you find the programs choice and use right arrow key to go into
the submenu. Press J until you find JAWS 10 and use right arrow and then
down arrow key into the JAWS 10 choices or press enter key. When the JAWS
10 choice is open press E to get to the explore JAWS choice and press enter
key to open that group of icons. Use down arrow and press enter key on the
explore my settings choice. If you use Vista or Windows 7 then after
pressing Windows key to move into the start menu use the down arrow key to
move off of the search box and then press the letter A to find the all
programs choice and press enter key. Use down arrow so that focus is off
the search box, press J until you get to JAWS 10, press enter key and then
press E to get to the explore JAWS choice and press enter key to open the
group of icons. Use down arrow key to move to the explore my settings
choice and press enter key.

3. Focus will be in a list of files and folders that apply to the
current user of Windows. Press the letter O until you find the Outlook
Express.JDF file. If you can type fairly quickly then instead of just
pressing O try typing O U T L and focus should go directly to the first icon
starting with the word outlook. Use down arrow key until you find the
Outlook Express.JDF file if there is one in this folder. Listen carefully
as there might also be an Outlook Express.JGF file, which is the JAWS
graphics file.

4., Press CTRL+C to copy the file to the clipboard.

5. If you found and copied an Outlook Express.JDF file in the explore
my settings folder then don't do this step but instead proceed to step 6.
If not then look for the file in the explore shared settings folder. Move
focus as mentioned above to the JAWS 10 program group and into the explore
JAWS settings icons. Use down arrow key past the explore my settings
choice to the explore shared settings choice and press enter key. This
folder has settings shared among all JAWS users on the Windows system. When
the explore shared settings is open find the Outlook Express.JDF file as
mentioned above and copy it to the clipboard.

6. Move focus back into the all programs menu but this time instead of
going to the JAWS 10 program group press J until you get to JAWS 11. Open
JAWS 11 as shown above and then open the explore my settings choice.
Paste the Outlook.JDF file into the folder. If Windows tells you that there
is already a file with that name and asks you to confirm that you want to
overwrite it then do so.

7. Move focus back to the JAWS 11 group and open the explore JAWS
choice. Use down arrow key

[JAWS-Users] Repeated Messages and the jaws 10 update

2009-03-14 Thread Dixie
It appears that since the latest update Jaws is often reading things more
than once...for example in Windows mail, Jaws will say 15 messages 10
unread, over and over, two or three times consecutively.
Or in writing a message and tabbing through the to, cc, and bcc fields it
will read who the message is to in all 3 fields even when the cc, and bcc
are blank it is reading the to field information in those empty fields.

Using Windows Vista and Jaws 10.0.1139

Another example is that when I just went in to get the version number from
the About box, Jaws read the bottom line of this box more than once...is
this a setting or a bug?
Thanks,
Dixie

Hehahaha, I guess then I should just figure that I am getting twice as much
for my money! After all, we pay dearly for our screen readers so we want
to get the most out of them that we can?

Seriously, it has always been an issue, but apparently worse now with this
newest update...fun, fun. @- ~Dixie~ -@

Dixie,

This has been an issue with jaws for so long it is neither
bug or setting. It is a no cost Freedom Scientific extra.

[JAWS-Users] Windows Mail Spell Checker?

2008-11-20 Thread Dixie
Using Jaws 9, Windows Vista, and Windows Mail my friend is having the
following issue when trying to use the spell checker.

I have Word 2003 rather than Office 2007. It is loaded on my computer and
when I press the F7 to access, I get the following message:

This language is no longer available for spell checking. Please select
another option in the spelling dialog. There is nothing else to select.

Can someone tell us how to make her spell checker work?

Thanks,
Dixie

[JAWS-Users] moving my settings to new computer

2008-05-09 Thread Dixie
I have been unsuccessfully attempting to move my settings from my old XP
computer running Jaws 9 to my new Vista computer .

I have Jaws installed on the new computer and authorized. I am attempting
to save my settings, such as exceptions dictionary and move them by jump
drive to the new computer.

From what I understand I am to copy the enu file and paste it into the new
computer. I thought I had done this successfully but there were no changes
made to my settings.

So, could one of you very wise folks please tell me the steps to accomplish
this task? Thank you!

[JAWS-Users] marking and selecting text

2007-10-26 Thread Dixie
I have been searching for information about marking and selecting text. I
believe there is a way to leave a place marker, read through a document and
find an ending place, then by hitting some key combination select all text
back to the place marker that had been left prior in the document. I cannot
find any directions for this though in the Jaws help files. Am I using the
wrong terminology in my search efforts?

Thanks for any help

Re: [JAWS-Users] eloquence and Jaws

2007-10-26 Thread Dixie
John,
An easy solution to this problem would be for you to put the information in
Ming's header into your exception dictionary. Then change your Jaws to say
whatever it is you would like it to say each time it sees that particular
string of characters.

Hello Ming. Your title is driving my Jaws crazy. It's reading like you
 had
your Capslock on or something. For the sake of sanity and Jaws users,
 could
you create another e-mail identity? How about just Ming?
