Re: [JAWS-Users] Hot key to turn JAWS back on not working
You can create a hotkey and use the old "alt+control+ "J" as follows. 1. Go to the Jaws17 short cut on your Desktop ( Windows Key +"D" then Control+Home)). 2. When focused on the Jaws17 shortcut icon, press your Application Key and up arrow to properties and press enter. 3. tab over to short cut / hotkey and enter the key combination you want. You will need administrator approval which if you are on a home machine is you. 4. Press enter and try it out. I have another computer still using Windows 7 and the shortcut or hot key for Jaws still works. Below is a work around I got from another list. 1. Do a windows+M key to go to the desktop 2. Hit the home key to go to the first icon on your desktop. 3. Hit the letter J and you should be on Jaws 16 if you have it installed. If not then you should be on Jaws 17 if you do not have any other icon starting with j. If you have Jaws 16 and Jaws 17 loaded then hit the j twice to get to Jaws 17. 4. Hit enter key and Jaws will load. This problem only started a couple of days ago and nothing had been installed or deleted from the computer. The hot key had been working just fine. I had been on a website and I was trying to purchase something and it wasn't working too well so I turned off JAWS with the insert+F4 and when I went to use Control+Alt+j it wouldn't work. I did wait for several seconds and nothing happened. I tried using the hot key again a few times and nothing. I went to see if the hot key was still there and it's there. I've turned off the computer and also restarted it but the hot key still doesn't work. If I try to delete the hot key and re-enter it, for some reason I'm taken off the JAWS screen and taken to the Desktop and I have to go back to JAWS in the taskbar and no matter if I try and re-enter the hot key again, it still takes me to the Desktop. Does anyone have any suggestions for me please? Re: [JAWS-Users] trying to return an item to Amazon
My experience is that while AMAZON whill enforce the return garuntee as well as keeping the delivery date, it is often better to click on the link to contact the seller directly. They will often respond quickly with replacement as well as without mailing charges so as to avoid Amazon's mandates and negative reviews.Of course this will vary with the vendor and cost of the defective item. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf of Michael B. I use FF as my primary browser so havent had the need to play with IE. It mainly happens when Im navigating around sites with the read by paragraph, line, word or character commands. At first, I thought it may have been an issue to a particular webpage, but as Ive been moving around online, Im coming across it on all sorts of sites. Its enough of a hesitation where it interrupts ones flow of getting around webpages. Is anyone else experiencing this annoying issue with the latest Jaws update? Hopefully someone can provide a little better response than I got rid of the thing. I would encourage everyone to keep IE, Firefox and Chrome around because there are invariably things you'll find that will work better with Chrome than anything else. If nothing else, Chrome is the fastest browser of the bunch. Not sure why there is an unusual amount of Chrome hate on this list. I admit that combo boxes are a little quirky and there may be occasions where depending on the way they're done, there may be some problems. However, if you enable Forms Mode and then press Alt + Down Arrow, for many combo boxes, you'll be able to cause them to work although they may be a little sluggish and quirky compared to how they work, for example, in IE. Combo boxes are quite iffy with JAWS these days no matter what browser you use.
