Re: [JAWS-Users] if you are not ready for windows 10 beware of windows update

2015-12-04 Thread Hans Pauli Sundstein (Jawslist)

Hi.

You have to goto the Windows Update, Installed updates, and remove the
kb2952664, kb3035583, and kb3112343.
Don't restart the computer between each removal, but remove all 3 updates
before restart.
When the computer is Restarted, goto the Windows Update, and search for
updates, but don't install the updates, but goto the Recommended updates
link, and see, that the just removed updates again is ready for install.
Uncheck the checkbox by each of these updates, and use the contextmenu
button to get acces to the "Hide update".
When these 3 updates are unchecked and hided, Win10 should no longer be able
to install automatically.

I Can't garanty, that Microsoft not later comes with a new update, that will
try to get all Windows Users to upgrade to Win10, but let's see.

Merry Christmas to all!

Anna, I'm no expert, but your question made me rethink my response I was
going to offer. kb3035583 does not provide any security patch to a
vulnerability, it is merely an update that reminds and facilitates users
of 7 or 8.1 to reserve the free offer of upgrading to 10. so, I think
not having kb3035583 won't necessarily prevent the computer from being
upgraded to windows 10. as for the upgrade being done automatically, I'm
not sure. but heed Gerald's post about changing the settings from
automatic to manual, and uncheck to get recommended updates. after
7/29/16, all worries of automatically being upgraded to windows 10
should be over, and if you're still on 7 or 8.1, it should be safe to
return windows updates to automatic.

Anna, In the past, I've suggested to uninstall KB3035583, and then hide
it upon checking for updates, but I think what Gerald is implying is
that if you
leave the settings on windows updates to be performed automatically, you
won't have any control as to what gets updated.

To prevent Windows 10 from being installed surreptitiously on your PC
without your knowledge, go to Change Settings in the Windows Update
dialog, and in
the combo box choose the option labeled "check for updates but let me
choose whether to download and install them." Also, uncheck the box
labeled "get
recommended updates the same way I receive important updates."

Alt+F for find and type in the word, teachers. Hit enter, then escape. You

When you want to go to the next result, hit alt+control+y. that should take

teachers, word will say the word was not found. Good luck, Karen

If you let Jaws run from the systemtray, than you'll not be able to alt+tab

context menu, where you find all the same in a treeview instead as menu's.

Try it, you can allways set it back to your old setting again.

Hi Miriam,

Does Jaws show in the system tray? If not this is probably why the
keystroke, Insert + J, isn't opening Jaws options. Try the following to get
Jaws to run from the system tray:
1. Alt + Tab to the Jaws window.
2. Press, Alt + the letter O, to open Jaws options.
3. Press enter on, Basics.
4. Tab to, Run JAWS from System Tray checkbox not checked, press the

5. Tab to, Okay, press enter to save your change close Jaws options.
6. Restart Jaws or your computer for the change to take place.

I am using JAWS 16.0.1925 on a Fujitsu laptop, Windows 7 64-bit. I have 8

When I read through a document line by line, using the down arrow, JAWS

this

on my typing, but I have been a JAWS user since JFW 2.00 and did not see
this issue until I installed JAWS 16.

I contacted FS Technical Support and, upon their recommendation, did a
repair of the install. As that made no difference, I uninstalled JAWS and
all shared components and reinstalled from the DVD. Still no success! I
contacted technical support again, and not only uninstalled JAWS and all
shared components, but removed all JAWS references from the registry. As
soon as I reinstalled JAWS, it worked correctly! However, the very next
morning, we were back to having the issue.

FS seems to think it is not a JAWS problem, but no one seems to be able
to
tell me what setting on my machine to check or change. All other versions
of
JAWS work beautifully.

Does anyone have any idea at all of something I might try? I find it
frustrating to pay for an SMA and then not be able to use the program to
achieve normal productivity on my job.
