[JAWS-Users] What gives with soundprofessionals.com?

2008-06-17 Thread Jamie Pauls
I tried visiting the Sound Professionals web site just now and this is all I
get with Jaws:
Microphones, USB Microphone, Preamplifiers, Digital Recorders, Cables and
more at Rock Bottom Prices from The Sound Professionals - Great deals on
Microphone, Preamplifier, Digital Recorder, Cable and more!

Is this site no longer accessible?

2008-04-09 Thread Jamie Pauls
I enjoy Rhapsody. www.rhapsody.com I have produced a tutorial on using
Rhapsody with Jaws and another screen reader. You can find it at the
following URL:
www.accesswatch.info
The cost of the tutorial is $9.95. You can listen to 25 free tracks per
month on Rhapsody or you can sign up to buy and burn tracks for $12.99 per
month. Thanks.

I am a beginning JAWS user and am using version 9. I would like to find a
good site to listen to music that is easy to navigate. I would like to
listen and possibly download. I am not looking for something illegal and am
not afraid to pay, just want to be able to navigate it without getting
frustrated.
I appreciate any suggestions.

2008-02-15 Thread Jamie Pauls
Launch Money Talks and then press Jaws key plus 6 on the top of the keyboard
to open the Jaws configuration manager. Press Alt S to access the Set User
Options menu and press up arrow once to advanced. Press enter and check the
checkbox to enable sleep mode and tab to ok. Save the configuration file
with CTRL+S and you're good to go. If you ever want to undo the process,
Just launch the configuration manager from within Money Talks again. I think
you'll need to alt-tab to it and then it will speak. Just uncheck the
checkbox and save the config file. HTH

Hello all,

I think my brain is totally fried, I'm running Money talks and prefer to use
its built in synthesiser. How do I permanently deactivate jfw so that it
reengages after I close the programme. I used to have it set that way, but
can't remember now how to do it.

Thanks for all the help.

Hi,
I've found WordPress's administration interface to be very accessible and
intuitive; it is driven by links and buttons, all of which can be accessed.
the buttons are also accessible via hotkeys which are listed as well. (These
may differ slightly whether you are using IE or Firefox; JAWS lists them
provided you have hotkeys set to speak..) Other weblogging software might
include Typepad, LiveJournal, and Blogger. I don't know much about these
other interfaces; someone else may be able to enlighten you further.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Looking for PC Maintenance/AntiVirus Software

Hello.

I'm running JAWS9.0 and Windows XP Home edition with all the latest updates.
For years, I'd been a satisfied user of Symantec's Norton line of products
for internet security and system maintenance.

As I'm sure happened to many here, when I bought Norton 2007, I found many
of the interfaces pretty inaccessible with JAWS. My subscription is about to
subscribe, and I'm wondering what other JAWS users might recommend. I
figure, my choices are:

Renew my subscription to Norton Internet Security and Systemworks for
another year and struggle along Take a chance on Norton 360 or Norton
Systemworks 2008 and hope they work with JAWS Or try a whole new program.

I don't mind paying, and of course a free option is always welcome...But I'm
wondering what system security-type programs you guys would recommend. I
saw one at Best Buy that sounds like it'd have everything I need, called
System Security 8 by AvanQuest Software. Does anyone here have any
experience using it with JAWS, and how well does it work? Another one I saw
that looked pretty good for my needs was Microsoft's Windows OneCare Version
2.

The pro to both is that they're both cheaper than upgrading Norton.

Thanks for any help anyone can give.

I think it is just a personal preference. I have used Winamp for years and
it is what I have grown accustomed to using. WMP is a good media player and
if it does what you need it to do, then by all means keep using it.
I do find that it is easier to set up play lists in Winamp though. Also I
like being able to create bookmarks within a file easily in Winamp.
I also like being able to skip forward or back in 5 second intervals in
Winamp not to mention the ability to jump to any point within a file.
You can probably do all of these things using WMP, but I'm not totally sure
about that.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Winamp and WMP 11

Hi,

I have been looking at just about every version of winamp over the last week
or so. I used to use Winamp several years ago but when I purchased a new
Laptop I tried using WMP 11 and have found it very good.

Please can somebody explain to me what I am missing by not using Winamp!

I do realise that it all depends on what you wish to do with your player and
that most of you will just think, Oh well whatever works for you but in my
case, Rippping, Burning using a Library, creating Play lists etc all are
very accessible using WMP but to be honest although I have had some success
with Winamp versions which includes using down loaded scripts from the site,
I am coming to the conclusion that WMP 11 is the thing to use.

Please tell me why most of you prefer Winamp and why you may think it is
better than the standard Windows Player.

Look forward to hearing your comments.

regards

Graham

Subject: [JAWS-Users] jaws 9 generating lots of error reports

I don't know if anyone has experienced this, and I have sent a letter to
tech support but thought I'd ask the group about this as well. The
application file for Jaws will pop up, and it seems this happens every day
now, and say an error report is being generated and there is a send and
don't send button. I usually send the report, but sometimes whether I hit
send or don't send the speech will go out so I must re-start. The sad thing
is, I'm not able to read exactly what's causing these error reports. I went
to details and even using Jaws cursor I haven't found a way to read the
error number or report so I could be more specific with you or with F.S. I
wondered if perhaps Jaws 9 gets mad at my ATI TV card or at the Winamp
plug-in I use to play TV shows--since we can't get TV to work well through
just the ATI card. But then I thought I tweaked something and fixed that,
but today's error report seemed to be generated after a Norton virus scan
that is automatic. I'm just not sure how to pinpoint what the problem is
since I can't actually see the report. Just wondered if others have
experienced this, and how you were able to find what caused it.

I found Winamp v. 3.62 to be the most stable with JFW versions prior to 7.0.
This however is just my opinion.

The biggest problem I've found with later WinAmp versions is that the
library is nearly inaccessible, and the playlist editor seems much harder to
use. This could be the result of user error (mine) or something intrinsic
to WinAmp, but I never used to have the problems I'm experiencing now with
WinAmp 5.11.

How about the new dash board and other online content that seems to

Did you try to using the Jaws scripts for Winamp?

I see now that pressing space does activate the menu. Pressing enter does
not. I'm pretty sure that Winamp and CDEX did not like playing together, but
all seems to be well now and the library does work better with the scripts.
Thanks.

Thanks. I guess I should be a bit more clear on my thinking. I was playing
with CDEX the other day and found that I could not seem to access the rip
function in the Winamp library after I had done so. I did not install ASPI
drivers for CDEX, hoping it would work without them. It did not. I decided
that maybe I had broken Winamp's ripping functions somehow and that I might
as well play with an older version of the program while I was messing
around. I then found the PC World article which piqued my interest. I
downloaded the 2.95 version and tried to extract a track from a CD. I had to
use the mouse movement commands to click the button and got an error about
not being able to open the encoder or something like that. I then
uninstalled CDEX and decided to try the current version of Winamp with the
scripts for the library. I find that the library does work much better with
the scripts installed. I am currently ripping some tracks from a CD, but
oddly enough I still have to manually click the rip button. Pressing space
or enter doesn't seem to activate it as it used to. Not sure what's going on
there. Using Jaws 9. Thanks.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] More info about my Jaws and Word 2003 Problem

I talked to a very knowledgeable tech support person from Freedom
Scientific today who is totally stumped by my Jaws and Word problem.
Using Jaws 8 and Word 2003, everything works as expected. Using Jaws
9, nothing reads in Word. Read current line yields no information.
Arrow keys say blank. Read by paragraph sort of works. If I do a
control-home to go to the top of the file and check my cursor
position, it does not move to row 1 column 1. It tends to stay where I
was last typing such as column 16. I can use the Jaws review keys and
read the text just fine. Insert F properly reads font and color
information. Insert Q tells me that settings for Word are loaded
winword.exe. I have unchecked the task pane. I have told the standard
and formatting toolbars to use two rows. I disabled everything in MS
Config and made sure that JawsVid was hooked in the registry. I am
running the latest update of Jaws. I have uninstalled Jaws with all
shared files and reinstalled. My gut tells me it is a script problem
but I can't imagine what it would be or why. Any help would be
appreciated. FS is supposed to call me again Friday, but I may not be
around. I don't want to mess things up too badly if I really do need a
high-level person to help me with this, but I thought given the
information I have provided someone on this list might actually have a
suggestion. Turning on enhanced edit support under text processing in
the configuration manager does work, but I understand it should not be
 necessary to do this. Thanks.

[JAWS-Users] A real Word 2003 puzzler with Jaws 9

2007-12-11 Thread Jamie Pauls
Greetings list members:

Today I uninstalled Jaws 9, removed all shared files and reinstalled the
program from the CD. I uninstalled Microsoft Office 2003 Small Business
Edition and reinstalled it. I installed Service Pack 3 for Office. I set the
zoom to both 50% and 75% in Word. I am still unable to make Jaws read
anything in Word without checking the Enhanced Edit Support under text
processing in the configuration manager. Does anyone want to hazard a guess
as to why this is? Thanks.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Recording Software

Hi,

I want to copy some cassette tapes to my computer. I know that I need a
cord to plug the cassette player into the mic jack on my computer and that I
need some recording software. What recommendations do you have for software
that likes Jaws and does a good job with the recording?

Thanks,
Ralph

I am still having issues with Jaws 9 and GoldWave both with and without the

files. Is anyone else experiencing this? It doesn't happen with Jaws 8.

[JAWS-Users] More info on my GoldWave Issues with Jaws 9 beta

2007-11-10 Thread Jamie Pauls
I recently reported that after installing the scripts for the latest version
of GoldWave and updating the beta of Jaws a few times, I began hearing the
Windows default sound periodically when recording or playing back a file in
GoldWave. Jaws has crashed twice during my attempts to use GoldWave as well.
I have since installed the scripts in Jaws 8 and used the program
successfully. I don't recall how to temporarily unload scripts in a program
for troubleshooting purposes and can't locate this information in the Jaws
help file. Is anyone else experiencing problems with GoldWave and the latest
beta of Jaws 9, and would someone be so kind as to help me with my
troubleshooting efforts? I'm not sure whether to file this as a bug report
since the scripts are from a third-party developer and I'm not sure how
Freedom Scientific treats this situation during a beta cycle. Thanks.

 Hi Folks,

I've been having a bit of trouble with JAWS crashing after closing

searching around, I haven't been able to find it. Am I remembering
incorrectly, or is this something I need to configure myself to launch the

Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS startup keystroke?

2007-11-10 Thread Jamie Pauls
I thought of that after I fired off the message. I don't recall the option
to assign a hotkey in the startup wizard, although I could be wrong about
that. Might not be a bad addition.

You are allowed to have any number of different versions of JAWS on the same
computer. therefore, obvious question: how is JAWS to know which of them to
assign a 'default' hot key to?

[JAWS-Users] Odd behavior with GoldWave and Jaws 9 beta

2007-11-09 Thread Jamie Pauls
I am a new GoldWave user so please keep that in mind as you read this. I
installed the latest Jaws scripts for the latest version of Gold
Wave and all seemed to be well. At some point I noticed the Windows default
sound playing at various times during my recording and playing of files in
GoldWave. I muted Jaws speech in the program and noticed the same thing. I
then unloaded Jaws and tried another screen reader. The odd behavior went
away. I assume this is a problem with the scripts in relation to the latest
beta of Jaws, but I'm not sure. Is anyone else experiencing this behavior?
By the way, regarding the problems I was having when saving a file in
GoldWave as an MP3 file, I discovered that there are various settings such
as MP3 mono and MP3 stereo in GoldWave. I was saving a mono file in stereo;
that's why I was hearing the strange artifacts when playing the file back
using another program. Thanks to all who offered help with that one.

[JAWS-Users] Possible bug with how Jaws 9 reads in Windows Explorer

2007-10-26 Thread Jamie Pauls
I want to run this one by the list in case it is either a known issue or has
already been reported assuming I am not the only person who can duplicate
this.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Press Windows key+R to open the run dialog and type c:.

2. Type pr to move to program files and press enter.

3. Use arrow keys to confirm that Jaws reads the list of files and folders
properly.

4. Type the letter G to move to the GoldWave folder. Notice that Jaws stops
speaking. The up and down arrow keys no longer read as they should, but read
current line always yields the desired result.

5. Close this window with Alt+F4

6. Press Windows key+E to launch my computer.

7. Open program files and use letter commands to jump to the desired folder.
Open it if you wish with right arrow. Notice that Jaws reads properly.

8. Close all windows in Windows Explorer with the left-arrow key. This time
use the tab key to move into the list of files and folders and again follow
steps 2 through 4. Notice that you get the same result.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Scripts for rhapsody.

2007-10-19 Thread Jamie Pauls
Real.com is requiring Rhapsody users to upgrade to version 4 of the program.
To the best of my knowledge, there are no new scripts for this version. It
is actually quite useable without scripts.
