[JAWS-Users] jaws 5.0

2008-03-23 Thread Julie Dawson
I was using dvd to audio extractor. Is there a setting in jaws 5.0 which
would allow checkboxes to be spoken? In the dvde extractor program, the
chapters on the dvd don't speak the checkmarks.
Thank you.

If you press enter twice after the last numbered thing, Word will
stop sequencing. Just hitting enter once makes a new number appear,
but twice stops the process. And of course you can backspace over a
number to get rid of it.

In a resume, how do you highlight just the lines in the resume with shift
down-arrow? Then would the bullet be inserted prior to the first character

 Hi Ann,

Sometimes that works and sometimes you end up with an extra line space and
 more bullets or numbers.
With all of the automatic features disabled you can always highlight the
text you want bulleted or numbered, go to Bullets and Numbering in the
format menu, highlight your selection, press enter on it and you are done.

 Hello everyone,

I currently have Nortan Anti Virus installed on my Vista laptop, but as
 has
already been discussed here it is not accessible with JAWS. Our Nortan
subscription is up for renewal soon, so I thought I'd look into other
 compirable programs.

I was wondering...Are there any good antivirus programs (not necessairally
free ones) that are accessible with JAWS? I'd rather have accessabillity
and not need sighted help every time the Nortan window comes up.

 Thanks for any suggestions,
 Michael

Julie, I notice that you have been having this problem for quite a while.
 I
have 2 suggestions, neither of which is particularly appealing but may be
 necessary.

 1. Go to the Microsoft web site http://www.microsoft.com
and in their Search field, type Active Desktop and then wait for the
results. You'll get quite a bit of response. I know I did.

 2. If absolutely necessary, you may have to re-load your Windows program.
It sounds like you have a corrupted file which isn't allowing your Active
Desktop to function. The Active Desktop as I understand it, combines
features that we as visually impaired computer users don't normally worry
about. The active Desktop sets up your view of the list of items in a
specific way, adds whatever background you may have chosen and includes
 any
changes you may have made to the titles on that display.
That information is stored in a recoverable file. The purpose is to
 provide
you with a working environment which is the same every time you open that
list. Actually, the list on a desk top is links to the various programs
 you
might need. They are not the actual program, just a set of directions
 which
tells the computer where to go to link up with that particular choice.
People tend to alter what the computer starts with by changing the title
 of
the link. That is something which may be effected by your problem.

I don't know which file is responsible for that configuration information.
Maybe someone like Denny Huff might be able to help you there. If you do
get help like that, just insert your original Windows disk and use the
 Find
feature to locate the file. Then copy it into the appropriate folder on
your main drive. Failing that, your only alternative would be to
 re-install
Windows completely, an annoying and time consuming operation at best. But
the advantage is a completely clean Windows system. I have had to do it.
Before you begin, make sure that you save all of your document files to
separate disks. Make sure that you have copies of all of your other
programs like Jaws for example, your word processor and so on. Normally,
they aren't effected by a re-installation like that but it's always best
 to
 be sure.
Finally, if you have to re-install, make sure you have a copy of the code
key in some alternative form: tape, Braille, digital recording, etc.
At one point, you will be prompted for that information.

Good luck Julie and I'm sincerely sorry no one has responded to you as of
 yet.

Hi Julie, This is Vicky. Sorry that it took so long to get back to you!
 A
lot has been happening and I needed to be out of town.

However, about the Access tutorials, Yes, I think they still have uce.
 They
introduce the Access program and show you what Access can do for you and
 how
you can tailor it for your needs.

Whenever, their command did not work, I just used the ALT key and looked
through the menus to find a command that sounded like it would do the same
 thing.

As I went through the tutorial, I wrote down notes and put in all the
command keystrokes for my own cheetsheet.

I still think it would be valuable to you.

 Sincerely Vicky

Re: [JAWS-Users] Cdex and windows burning cds with Jaws question

2007-07-10 Thread Julie Dawson
Can a person burn cds with cdex? I rip from cds but don't know if you can
burn them. Also in Windows burning an audio cd, is that with Jaws burning
with windows media? Does it have a wma extension then as opposed to a cda
extension?
Thank you and you can write me off list.

[JAWS-Users] nero 5.5 recognizing recorder

2007-07-09 Thread Julie Dawson
My boyfriend has a Dell computer he got in 2004. I installed Nero 5.5 on it
using Jaws and the only recorder the nero burning recognizes is the virtual
recorder. Is the version of Nero too old for the burner or what file in the
program causes it to recognize or to select the recorder? I went to choose
recorder and the only recorder it listed was the virtual one.

[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Any help appreciated and does Nero 6.0 work well with Jaws and is it a great
deal different than Nero 5.5 and what is the cost?

I don't know any tutorials, but I expect access technology institute has
one. I use access everyday on the job, and it's perfectly accessible.
 It
maybe isn't as easy as word or outlook, but I've used jaws with access for
about eight years now. I love the program actually.
