Re: [JAWS-Users] low battery

2015-06-21 Thread Nicholas Jackson
Hi Petras,

When you get down to a certain percentage of battery power (ten
percent or so), Jaws should announce "Low Battery" and advise you to
save your work and plug into an outlet. The message may vary depending
on the model of the computer, but like I said, you should hear
something like this. I've never had it happen when a sighted person
was around, but I think it shows up on the screen as well.

2015-05-21 Thread Nicholas Jackson
Hi J,

After pressing the Windows key and pause combination, try activating
the Jaws cursor. I just did this on my Windows 7 laptop and hit the
down arrow key several times. Doing so allowed Jaws to read my system
type along with other basic information about my computer. I hope this
helps.

Thanks, Flor. I didn't think of that, but it's a good tip. I tried it,
and it definitely saves time as it removes that extra step of going

Re: [JAWS-Users] How can I make jaws to announce the extension of file?

2015-05-20 Thread Nicholas Jackson
Hello Mohib,

I believe the setting you want is in Control Panel. I'm running
Windows 7/64-Bit, but depending on what operating system/configuration
you have, the procedure may be slightly different. Here's how I do
this.

First, press the Windows start menu button and start typing Control
Panel into the search box. When this pops up, press enter and then the
letter F until you hear Jaws say, "Folder Options." From there, press
enter again. You will be on the General tab, so press control tab
until you hear something like "View Page." At this point, you can
press tab to enter a tree view which controls how much information is
displayed about Files/Icons. Hit the down arrow key until you hear
something like "Hide Extensions for Known File Types." If this is
On, press the Space bar to turn it off, tab to the OK button, and
press enter. Now, you should hear both the name of a file and the
extension as you described. I hope this helps.

Re: [JAWS-Users] JFW and Foxfire

Hello,

If this is what I think it is, there's nothing wrong with your
version of Firefox. . I have Version 34, and this has happened to me
in the past as well. From what I remember when the list helped me, the
issue has to do with Full Screen Mode or something like it. The key
command to fix this is either F11 or Control F11. I would start by
trying those keystrokes while on a webpage in Firefox, and maybe
others on here have a better explanation or other ideas as well.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Finding USB 3.0 ports

2014-11-19 Thread Nicholas Jackson
Anyone on here can feel free to correct me, but I don't think there's
very much difference between a USB 2.0 and 3.0 port. It sounds like
the colors are different, but other than that, they're probably alike
except for speed. If I'm not mistaken, USB 3.0 is faster than 2.0. The
computer and the connected device may share data more quickly, but
that may be all. On 11/19/14, Gary Ray wrote:

[JAWS-Users] Firefox and Keyboard Shortcuts with Jaws.

Has anyone else had issues recently using keyboard shortcuts with
Jaws to access Bookmarks and other features in Firefox? I tried to get
to one of my bookmarks this morning and noticed that the key
combination to get to the Bookmarks menu suddenly didn't do anything.
I was able to use it without any problems earlier this week before the
Jaws update. Could Firefox or something in this update have caused
some change so that Jaws doesn't recognize this keystroke? I have
Windows 7 and Jaws 15.0.9023. Does anyone know of any workarounds I
could try? Thanks.
