Re: [JAWS-Users] December FS Cast is live, 64 - Bit Windows version of JAWS 10 announced

2008-12-18 Thread Nimer
I am not currently a JAWS user, but have been in the past. 64-bit
support and application speed, size, and use of less system resources
may change that. The way I see it, 64-bit XP is not used very frequently
in schools or in the business world. Also, when you buy a new computer,
you're either going to get Vista 32-bit, or more commonly Vista 64-bit.
If you request a downgrade, you will very likely get XP 32-bit. The way
I see it, the current road that FS is taking is good. Now if FS could
make all versions of JAWS cost the same amount regardless of whether or
not they use wiindows pro or home and I'd be really happy.

Hugh,
That is no problem Hugh. You can remain in XP till the next Windows OS and get
that one in 64 Bit. Most all computers that have shipped with XP were 32 bit
versions and people will not really be changing to XP 64 Bit.

Victor,
Personally, I believe your logic is flawed. First, XP support will be
discontinued in a couple of years. Second, drivers for 64-bit XP and
applications that support 64-bit XP are rare. And third, when
individuals buy a computer, it comes with Vista, and not XP, hence
putting resources on a product that maybe two or three people would end
up using is silly to me. And, as you said yourself, if you want 64-bit
windows, you'll have to buy it. Can you give me a few places that will
sell you XP 64-bit?

Thanks

Hi Eric,

I think your logic is flawed here.

True, most people got 32 bit editions of Windows, but you have to
admit, at the time, they had no other choice, as Jaws didn't support
64 bit editions.

I had a great opportunity to purchase my last brand new computer last
month with a 64 bit edition of Windows, being run on a Quad core
processor, but couldn't get it, because Jaws didn't support that
version of Windows, so I've got a great quad core processor that is
being unutilized specifically because of that.

I can still purchase the 64 bit edition of Windows and enjoy that
version, if I so choose, but now you're saying that I can't, because
FS is choosing not to concentrate on that aspect, because everyone has
bought the 32 bit edition.

Personally, I think this is unfair, and kind of discriminates against
those who have sworn off Vista forever. Smile.

No offence. Grins.

Again, I agree with you that XP is better, and that most people will not
switch to Vista. I am one of those people who finds 98 to be excellent.
My point is, though, that JAWS is not the only one who does not support
XP 64-bit. Many driver manufacturers, along with software manufacturers
do not support 64-bit XP because the customer base for it just is not
there. The majority are using XP, and 32-bit XP at that.

Yes, you don't have to completely support the XP edition with Jaws,

Re: [JAWS-Users] Fw: Giveaway of the Day

2009-01-13 Thread Nimer Jaber
This is a website that allows you to get a free software program every
day. This software is usually paid software, but you download it in a
certain period of time, and you an have it free with some restrictions
such as no tech support.

Thanks

Hello all,
What is give away of the day? Is it an email list? If someone could
shed some light on this for me I would appreciate it.

Take care,

Giveaway of the DayHi,
Here is the original email with the link to click on. It is very user
friendly and easy. The other email just had the activation
information and not the download info. It is included here.
I read about Giveaway of the Day on Fred's Head Companion and joined
it. I have downloaded several programs from there.
