Ah. Very strange, and not nice. Haven't read this whole thread, so sorry if
this has already been brought up -- but you could try re-downloading an
older version of Reader, since it worked until a few months ago. Maybe Adobe
broke something with an update.

No OCR is completely usable, especially if the publisher uses a lot of
graphics, ads, weird spacing but having to bring it up in Adobe then wait
for 30 minutes for it to be ready to read in Jaws OCR, then not being able
to move to where you left off in a timely fashion, and the same goes for
Docuscan is annoying and the paper I am talking about is not, an image file,
it worked until December 2017, its format had not changed, and it is always
over 50 pages in length.

I use Windows 10 and JAWS 18. JAWS OCR was apparently quite improved in
version 2018, and maybe to the point now where it is more accurate/better,
but even the JAWS training materials stated until recently that you couldn't
use this function for reliable, high-quality oCR of scanned images. I do use
Adobe Acrobat on this machine; it's an old version and really crashy, but I
like it because it either has built in oCR functionality or interfaces with
Windows 10's OCR feature (I still am not sure which, honestly), and it can
convert to a variety of formats. I haven't yet had any reason to open a PDF
(or anything else really) in Edge, but Firefox will do this, in a pinch. I
still prefer Adobe for this purpose, though. And the newer versions of
Reader at least are less crashy and play nicer with screen-readers, though I
still have issues with Adobe and their formats.

My experience is no, with a community newspaper, OCR of it is marginal, no
way to insert book marks so you don't have to start over, after you have
read 20 pages of a 60 page document.
Edge shows me no keystrokes, can't save or import my favorites, I am there,
but nothing particularly useful I can do with the product, no menus, no way
to find the keystrokes, if any were actually provided.

What garbage in my humble opinion.
At least in IE 11 if I can't remember how to do something there are the
menus I can read.

Howdy Sheez,

What if you read the PDF file with the Jaws OCR feature instad of Openbook?
Would this possibly read the file better? I'm just throwing this out there
since I don't use Widows 10 / Edge as my main computer / browser.

Take care. Mike. Go Dodgers!

What I did to read a PDF was saved it to the desktop giving it an unordinary
name. I chose Weird.
Then launching Open Book, I went to Open Document and selected the PDF
option.
Next I looked on the desktop and found the file named Weird.
After I pressed Enter, Open Book started reading it.

I also tried turning on Narrator in Edge, but I wasn't able to stop Narrator
from reading the whole document. In other words, I wasn't able to read word
by word nor line by line.

Hopefully this'll work for you. Or better yet, maybe someone will share a
bit of JAWS magic with us to make it easier to read PDF's.

Hi I've installed acrobat reader DC and each time I go into it it asks if I
want to make it the default and of course I say yes but still can't read
PDF's.

The only thing I haven't tried yet is to uninstall it and reinstall it. I'm

I have tried to copy a folder to an SD card. I keep getting the message
that the process has been interrupted, resulting in the folder not being
copied. Even tried copying a zipped folder with the same results. I tried
to copy another folder to the card with the same results. I did
successfully copy the folder to Drop Box after a couple of tries. The SD
card does have files on it but it does have enough room for the new folders.
I am running Windows 8.1 on a laptop and Jaws 14. Any suggestions would be

hello;

try the following;

1, ctrl+shift+l= create distribution list;

2, now type in the name of the distribution list;

3, tab once, you will hear the name of the list, press enter,

4, to add a contact press, alt+h+t
now tab to the list of contacts,
arrow and choose a contact you wish to add to the distribution list, now tab
and enter on, members button, the client will be added.

another way is,

1, create the list,
ctrl+shift+l,
type in the name of the distribution list, press the escape key, and say yes
to changes, so now the distribution list is created,

now, ctrl+shift+b=addressbook,
you land into a search edit,
so type in the name of the distribution list, tab once, you should see the

alt+h+t=add members
tab to the contacts list,
arrow to select a contact,
now tab enter on members button, contact will be added, tab ok press enter.

hope this helps.

To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com
Subject: [JAWS-Users] more about bouncing email messages and what to do

First let me explain what a bouncing message is and the 2 types there are.

Now this list generates a huge amount of email during the course of an
average day. For example once I send this message out to the list the server
will send a copy to everybody who is set to receive mail currently over 600
members.

Now as we all know the internet is perfect and nothing ever goes wrong. I
almost couldn't keep a straight face while writing that last sentence. So
let's say the impossible happens and somebody's message doesn't get
delivered because their ISP is down or some other imaginary condition. Then
that message bounces back to the server. At that point the Mailman server
program makes a note of it and after a few such bounces stops sending out
messages to you. Then it sends out reactivation notices which I will post a
sample of at the end of this long email.

The other type is when somebody does not check their email for a time and
their inbox fills up and can't hold any more messages. Kind of like when you
go to leave a voice message only to hear the voice mailbox is full and can't
receive any more messages.

Of course as we all know everybody on here checks their email 14 times a day
so that can't possibly happen either.

So say that it is at a point where 40 people post in a short period of time
when somebody else's' email starts bouncing. All of a sudden the server is
getting 40 messages bouncing from person X, so it disables that account. All
that means is at that point it is going to send out notices.

If you simply hit reply and send on the notice your account is reactivated.
If you don't after a few days the server will simply remove you because that
is how it is programmed to react.

Believe me boys and girls having done bounce handling manually on Yahoo
groups it was like a birthday present to have the server do it for us. I
remember Rick saying "oh no, say it isn't so" when I told him about it.
Pretty nice for us all right.

Even if you get removed by the server for bouncing messages you are still
free to sign up again.

Although we have done it the fact is unless you do something pretty bad you
can still join up again hopefully after reviewing the guidelines more
closely, but I digress. Yes in case you're wondering we can block somebody
from returning to the list if need be, but it's been quite a while since the
last time we did that particular thing.

So now it is time for an example message from the Mailman server. I hope
everybody has followed along, I'm getting $0.10 for word.

think. Any better ideas? Currently use Front Host.

Hi,
Sadly Comcast is famous for bouncing email lists such as this one. It's why
I moved all of my subscriptions to a gmail account years ago. Sometimes
gmail too flags them as spam and traps them in their spam folder easily
accessed and rectified through their web interface but I haven't had as many
incidents of bouncing therein. Now watch me jinx myself having said that
(smile). I recognize this is not a viable solution for all I just wanted to
mention that this is not a new occurrence at least with Comcast. Good luck
to all who are impacted.

I have received around 70 notices this morning of members who's subscription
have been disabled for bouncing. If any of you out there who are still
receiving messages know anybody on com cast, SBC Global, hot mail and a
number of other providers who have had their membership disable pending
reactivation by the server to have them contact their ISP and explain that
this domain is not a source of Spam that would be fantastic. Otherwise this
list might shut down a lot faster than I ever figured it would.
Granted the members in question have to follow the directions from the

Hi Pam,
windows7 64bit has both 32 & 64bit version of I.e By default the 64bit
running & if you can't get the 32bit here is the path for it:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\ and the launcher for it is
iexplore.exe If you like to use it on some websites, just create a shortcut
for it on your desktop take care...

Ninite didn't support for installing Flash player seperal months ago. Try go
to jaws-users.com and go to the program links, then download the program
called alternative flash player auto updater to your computer. This helps
you to download and install the latest version of adobe flash player.

The Ninite site with the flash player tells me, "You have version 10.0.0

I installed it on both my computers. It works fine on 1 computer but on the
other computer, I had to go back to IE 8. That was before the latest Jaws
update came out. I'm thinking about trying it again on the computer that
currently has IE 8.

The blank page problem they mention occurs even with the latest build of
Jaws but can be resolved with unloading and restarting it.

Re: [JAWS-Users] setting up an account on Facebook with jaws

2011-04-06 Thread Pam Walters
Use the m.facebook.comma. It is much easier to use than the facebook site
itself. You have to setup an account giving your email address or phone and
password and birthday and I believe there is also a capture to fill out so
you will need firefox and webvisum or salona and qwitter I believe it is as
I don't use that program. I hope I am telling you right because it has been
awhile sense I have done it. I am doing this from memory so anybody jump
right in there and correct any mistakes that I might have made. I certainly
don't mind. Pam

Hi All;

When in the CCleaner Tree View, is there any way to make Jaws read whether
an item / option is checked or unchecked while arrowing down this list?
Currently I have to, press the spacebar and then , Jaws key + up arrow
keystroke, for say line, to hear if the box is checked or not. I would
like

to be able to just arrow down the list and have Jaws read if the boxes are
checked or not. I have played with the Windows State options in the
CCleaner configuration manager with no success. If anyone has a fix for
this I would really like to learn about it! All advice or help will be
greatly appreciated. Thanks much. Take care.
