[JAWS-Users] reading file extentions

2009-01-29 Thread Rachel Magario

Hello listers,

My jaws used to say the name of a file and dot whatever was after like dot
doc or dot PDF or dot HTML.

I had to reinstall jaws and now it won't read what extention the file has.
Does anyone how to do that?
I would appreciate any help. Thanks!

Happy 2009!
Rachel

 Hi Folks,

 I'm wondering if there's a cheque book and/or calendar program that's
simple to use and works on Vista?

I'm going to be getting a new computer with Vista on it, and the latest
version of Jaws, and I need to get these two programs so I can use it.

I am able to download the programs now, so having the computer is not
necessary, as my wife has a laptop with Vista on it, business edition,
 and
running Jaws 9 that I can play with, so any help would be appreciated.

GoldWave records initially in .WAV format. However, it is very easy to
store the file in .MP3 as you have described. Wave files are very easy
 to
edit, change or modify. Once you have the project completed, you can
easily access the File menu and choose .MP3 as the type of medium you
want. GoldWave doesn't save that file anywhere until you tell it to. It
records in the wave format for the reasons I have indicated above.

So does GoldWave records wave files as it comes from the tape and then I
have to convert in MP3? Or is there a way to make the file be MP3 as it
 is
grabbing the sound from the tape?

Thanks, and sorry for the ignorance in case it is a obvious answer!

 Hi Rachel,

As David pointed out, GoldWave is a very friendly software to use to
record tape and LP. It is more accessible when you use Jaws scripts
with it. The scripts can be downloaded from the Jaws Users script
 page. The URL is below:

 http://www.jaws-users.com/JAWS/scripts/

There are very good tutorial in using GoldWave by Rick Harmon. You
can visit his web site at:

 http://www.blind-geek-zone.net/

The only trick to recording tapes and LPs is setting the proper
 volume level without causing distortion.

Re: [JAWS-Users] g mail and settings

2008-07-26 Thread Rachel Magario
Hi, I use that command or you can go to tools and send and receive all.
I don't know how you got all the emails and twice. It should only down load
the last month and you can tell what you want when you set pop settings.
Did you set your pop setting in gmail it self also?
recent : should only get the last 30 days and when you do add it in your
your configurations it does pick up every thing again. But that should
happen only once.
I deal with about 3 personal and 5 organizational gmail accounts. And I had
that issue happen only once.
I believe you your gmail setting you can choose also if you want to keep
your messages on the server too or not.
And what is happening when you send messages to your self?
I just send from me to myself and that works just fine!
Now if you are using gmail as your smtp server also, you would get doubles
each time you send your self something because it will down load all your
sent messages too! But I just change my SMTP to my internet provider and I
don't get my sent messages that way.

Hope this helps and it is not totally off what you were asking!
Rachel.

Andrew, I am running an XP still, but as soon as vista came out I had 2
extra machines running vista, the Vaio I had not many issues with 2007
office. However with the HP I had some, but I was using jaws 8. of course I
know jaws 9 already took care of some of those problems.
Now my sighted friends who bought dell are having an really bad time with
it. I don't mean to talk bad about a brand, but I think they are struggling
with vista.
I also run office 2003 and 2007 in my xp vaio machine because it depends

I think it might be a personal choice at least on the office issue.

 Hi, Andrew.

 Dave here.

Personally, my expirences with Windows Vista have been absolutely
 horrid,
mostly with program incompatibility issues, and hardware just not
 working
with it. It did not like JAWS of any version, and for the month I had
 it,
it was a non stop headache of one problem after another, including
 hardware
crashes, program crashes, and a total inability to use my computer at
 all.

I finally got fed up with it, and had my rehab officer send my machine
 back
to Dell, and had XP SP3 put back on it. I just got it back a few weeks
 ago,
and have had no problems at all since. And since my machine is a Dell
 Vostro
1500 with 2 GB of ram, a Intel Dual core processor, and a 145 GB hard
 drive,
that was originally desinged to handle the rigors of Vista, XP SP3 runs
 on
 it like a top.

Imho, I would drop Vista like a hot potato, and go back to XP.

A few weeks ago, I was given a new laptop for my birthday. I have 2

one for school and the new one.
the school one (which I am using now) runs xp professional, and office
 2003.
The new laptop runs a trial version of office 2007 and windows vista

I am trying to decide whether or not to switch back to XP and if

 easy,
just not sure if we have a copy of office 2003 as well.
I have also downloaded jaws basic training material on office 2007 and
 vista.
I am just wondering if people who use vista out here would tell me

[JAWS-Users] Windows mida player album info

2008-07-23 Thread Rachel Magario
Hello listers,

I am a new member of this list and I am very thankfull this list exists!

I have been having issues with windows Media player recognizing my audio book
CDs and some of music too. The funny thing is that when I press find album info
I search by the name and all I get back is clickable 1 clickable 2 and etc.
So I was wondering if anyone would have a tip for me of how to get my album
info right? I looked for the edited option, but
it says it is unavailable.

Thanks for any pointers.

Welcome to the list. Not sure if this covers the subject of your
 question,
but there's a fantastic guide on Windows Media Player 11 and JAWS at the
 following URL.
 http://vip.chowo.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/jaws/Windows-Media-Player-11-Guide.html
Hopefully it answers your question. If it doesn't do so directly, it
 still
 is a great guide nonetheless.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Multiple Versions of Jaws

2008-07-23 Thread Rachel Magario
I have not had much issues when I run only one or 2 versions, when I have
more however, at times it gets funny and sometimes a different versions
comes up instead of the one I chose for the computer to boot with, for those
issues, I chose only to keep 8.0 and 9. But I think it is as matter of
personal choice and also of how much your system can handle.

You're fortunate then. I have had instances of jaws crashing and messing
up the keyboard intercept and the sound to where no other screen reader
would work. Doesn't happen a lot but it does happen. Only recourse here
 is
 a reboot.

How many versions should one keep on one's computer of Jaws and
 should/should not??

Currently, I have only version 8. I just removed the Jaws 7.01. Now
 I'll
install the jaws 9 and then the current update for it only because of
 that
AVG 8 otherwise I would stay put as I'm content with jaws 8..
