Re: [JAWS-Users] turning off laptop display completely

2009-08-21 Thread Roberts,Vern
Depending on the manufacturer of the laptop, Dell for instance, the function
key (fn) + F8 will toggle the display between Laptop monitor only, second
display, such as data projector only, of display on both. So you could press
function + F8 until the laptop display is black.

Hope that helps.

Hello,

To my knowledge, the only way to turn-off the display is by closing the lid and
attaching an external keyboard. Before doing that one should go to the power
option and select: 'When I close the lid, do nothing'.

Hello everyone

I know of utilities that will turn off the laptop display but the display will
automatically turn back on when the keyboard is pressed or when the mouse is
moved. My laptop does noes have a hotkey to turn off the display. Is there any
way for me to turn off the display and continue working on my laptop? It would
be a major battery saver.

Cheers

Thanks. That does work. Pressing ALT + C opens the favorites menu, then
arrow to the Tab Group. The application key opens the menu and allows
you to select Open In Tab Group and press Enter, or pressing G. Thanks
to all of you.

Did you try to use the aplications key when you position yourself on
your
group in the favorites? When I go to live mail, it has submenu and it's
closed. I press the aplications key, there is an option "open i tab
group.

Yes you are right! If there is a way to open all of the tabs at once
from
the favorites menu for a sighted user it is not available to a JAWS
user.
>From the Microsoft's explanation of tab browsing, this is the entire
reason
for creating a tab group favorite. I use tab browsing all the time, but

never set up a tab group favorite until I got your message. I at least
thought there would be an option in the Applications menu to perform
this
task when on the created tab group name in the favorites menu. Perhaps
this
is a oversight by Microsoft. However, if this works properly for a
sighted
user, then Freedom Scientific must find a solution. I will have my
daughter
check it out when she gets back from school. It is her first day back.

Try right-arrow to open the group. Using JAWS9 here now, and it has
been
the same through JAWS8. When i press alt-c, and come across a 'closed'
item
I have one group which is a tabbed group, so I open it with right-arrow.

JAWS always says whether it is opened or closed, and I can pick the page
i
want from the list. In my usual Favorites alt-a it appears as a
submenu,
which again indicates right-arrow to open it. If I down- or up-arrow
JAWS
then tells me the tabs in it.

Thanks very much. That's still not quite what I was looking for. These
instructions are perfect for opening one page in the tab group, but
there is a way, I think, to open all of the pages in the tab group at
the same time. For example, if I have a tab group name My Music with 4
links, I think you can open all 4 of the links as a group, at the same
time. After they are open you can certainly use CTRL + tab to maneuver
thru the tabs, or you can choose to open one link at a time. I don't
think JAWS picks up the arrow graphic that opens the entire tab group,
but I believe there is a way using a keystroke once you have focus on
the tab group.

Not just one keystroke. All of the tabs that you may have opened while
focused on a particular page, for example, are in one group. If you
want
different 'tab groups' they will therefore be on different pages, pretty

much. So you would go there in the usual manner of typing the address

the page you want, or you will choose this page from your Favorites
(with
the tabs to other pages you set about it as well, before you will have
added
and saved it there. So, the handiest way to go is via the Favorites -
'add
tab group to Favorites' - and give the group of tabs you set upon the
page
in focus a meaningful nname. perhaps you could give it a unique number
or
letter, and do the same to other pages with tab groups you have about
them,
to make it easier to flit to and fro between them via the Favorites
menu.

Re: [JAWS-Users] word question

2008-05-23 Thread Roberts, Vern
Document 1 and document 2 is the way Word works. It remembers how many
new documents you've opened since the last time you rebooted. The temp
file is created when you open any Word document. I'm not sure why Word
is not releasing it and you have to reboot to get rid of it when you
close the original. It normally should.

I am using jaws the newest one, and office 2000. I use word a lot. Here
is the problem that is happening. In a folder I have a number of word
documents, I open one up and work on it, close it save what I've done
and all if fine in the document but another document has show up in the
folder and it is a temp document of the one I was working on and I
cannot delete, it says the disc is full. The only way I can get rid of
it is to shut down and I get the message that word is open and I have to
enter on the end task button. When I reboot I can go to that folder and
enter and delete the temp document. Also when I open a word document it
says document 1, open another it says document 2 and so on, the only way
it goes back to being number 1 is by rebooting. Got any ideas as to what
is going on.
