Re: [JAWS-Users] on some websites I can't activate buttons

2015-11-28 Thread Saylien Brown
I experience this quite a lot too. Using latest build of FireFox
under Windows 8.1 with a TripleTalk USB synth.

I have to use the JAWS v17 OCR feature ([Insert]+[Spacebar], [o],
then [w]) and then use the JAWS cursor to locate the button text to
left mouse click on it.

It's like JAWS isn't getting the correct X/Y coordinates for the
link/button as you're using the virtual cursor to read/navigate
through the webpage. It is really a pain in the butt when I thought
hitting the [Enter] or [Spacebar] key on a link or button would
simulate a left mouse click. Guess FS has secretly disabled this
functionality or something?

On some websites I run across buttons I can't click on with space or enter.
I try routing cursors, turning off virtual cursor, left clicking, just about
everything I can think of but the keystroke won't work to get me to the next
page. I see it a lot on banking sites and on submit or continue buttons.
Due to the configuration of some newer websites with maybe too many
graphics--just making a guess--is there just no way to be able to use
buttons and therefore the inability to complete tasks on these sites without
sighted help? I truly hope there's an answer and that it's not impossible
to use these sites independently.

Thanks.

[JAWS-Users] Question regarding Eudora Pro and JAWS accessibility?

2015-08-05 Thread Saylien Brown

Well there really is no accessibility issues.

I've been using Eudora Pro for about 15 years and I can't believe
there's no email program out there that can compleat with it to date?

Came across a nagging SSL certificate error problem a few days ago,
but was able to fix it thanks to the info revealed at this page:

http://blog.timeoff.org/rick/2015/01/07/eudora-and-ssl-certificate-failures/

I'm not sure if anyone on this list still uses Eudora Pro for
accessing their email using JAWS, but I need to know something?

How can a program that stopped being supported almost 10 years ago
still work so well (Not sure about Windows 10, but it does work
flawlessly on Windows 8.1 and earlier) and other email clients can't
seem to get it right?

Does anyone know if someone plans on bringing back Eudora Pro? I know
it's open source now but can't find a newer version that is as stable
as v 7.1.09.

[JAWS-Users] Looking for a Speech Friendly Back Up Utility.

2014-06-07 Thread Saylien Brown

Hello,

I'm using the latest build of JAWS 15 with a Triple Talk USB Synth on
a Windows 7 64 Bit Home Edition computer.

I'm looking for a basic back up utility for storing designated files
to my DropBox folder on a weekly schedule.

I don't care about a bunch of fancy bells and whistles. This program
must be accessible using the computer configuration I mentioned above.

I just want to be able to configure the utility to back up specific
files from various folders on my C and D drive partition to my
DropBox folder. DropBox will then handle the transport to an on-line
storage account.

Don't care if it is free or paid.

All suggestions are welcome.

This Karen's Replicator is just what the doctor ordered. Very speech
friendly. Not a bunch of bells and whistles to confuse things. Had my
first backup job setup within 3 minutes of installing the program.

The only thing I wish could be added is the ability to have it launch
during Windows Startup and automatically minimize to the System Tray.
Yes, realize I could simply place a shortcut to the program in the
Windows Startup folder, but how about having it automatically
minimize to the System Tray?

Thanks Karen for making this utility available.

Otherwise I never really noticed too much of a difference between the other
versions. I['m sure there is but for what I do they didn't matter. FYI they
all work on 32 or 64 bit systems.

hi all listers, back when I used XP, I used to select the files in folders
and copy them to an external hard disk, and eventually started using a
program called Syncback to automate the backing up procedure when there was
allot of files to backup. Syncback became more graphically orientated and
inaccessible/unusable with JAWS or any other screen reader. Now that I'm
using Windows 7, I'm curious... is there a JAWS or screen reader friendly
backup program that will automate manual backup methods, like Syncback used
to do? I'd rather not use MS's SyncToy, since I found it a bit lack of
comprehensiveness. I just want to set it up and use it when I need it, and
not be bothered with lengthy or confusing procedures.

[JAWS-Users] Forcing Elquence output through an USB audio device?

the USB device to output speech? Would love to hear some music while

[JAWS-Users] JAWS 13 Working with Capture Images?

2012-03-22 Thread Saylien Brown

Hello,

I'm using the latest build of JAWS 13 under Windows 7 64 Bit Premium
edition. I just got a new Dell XPS laptop and have installed both
Firefox 11 and Internet Explorer 9, which JAWS 13 works well with
both browsers. One problem, the excellent add-on for deciphering
those pesky capture images (Webvisum) hasn't been updated to work
with FireFox 11. I'm kind of surprised that HJ hasn't given this
deciphering capability to JAWS 13 yet for it's obvious these Capture
images are a problem for visually impared end-users on the web.

Does anyone know if the creator has plans of updating Webvisum to
work with FireFox 11? If not, is there any other add-on or program
available that will do what Webvisum did under FireFox 3.6?

Thanks for your help.

This has got to be the worst release of JAWS I've ever tried.

First graphics it use to read as so, it now recognizes them as

Sorry HJ, but I hate v12 of JAWS and have gone back to using v11.x

I agree. The first beta of JAWS 12 worked great. Once I installed the
update yesterday, I'm noticing quirky behavior when reading web pages.

Like JAWS is now reading images contained within a div../div tag
as a form button. It's quite annoying and I see no way of turning it off.

Yes Chris it's the same with Microsoft Office 2010 Outlook - everything they
fixed with 12 was undone by the update yesterday!

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Inconsistent behaviour with JAWS 12 latest and
Thunderbird latest

Hello all.
Before possibly reporting this to Freedom Scientific through their bug
report form, I am noticing inconsistent behaviour when reading messages
in Thunderbird. For example JAWS will read part of the body of the
message twice, with the second time reading in its entirity. whereas
other times it reads the message fine. This did not happen with the
first public beta.

Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS 12 and the virtual ribbon, how is it supposed to work?

2010-09-15 Thread Saylien Brown

Yes, that's exactly how it's supposed to work.

It allows you to quickly reverse the last option you set using the
virtual ribbon.

In JAWS 12 beta with Microsoft Outlook 2010 beta under windows XP, the first
time I press ALT+h for the virtual ribbon after starting Outlook, I hear
message tab. Then I can arrow down through the sub-menus and select an
item. Then the next time I press ALT+h for the virtual ribbon, often but
not always I think, it starts on the same item I selected the last time.
Since I don't believe I have encountered menus that work this way I was
wondering if this is what Freedom Scientific meant to do. Thanks.

Re: [JAWS-Users] External Hard Drive Question

2010-09-07 Thread Saylien Brown

Believe this is off-topic, but I'm going to suggest something that may help.

First make sure the power cord hasn't burned out. I find this happens
a lot when the external hard drive is left on constantly.

One of my external hard drives has quit working. When I unplug the
USB cord, it lights up for just
about 30 seconds and then it quits again. Is there any way I can
get the stuff I have on it off

before it completely quits working. I can't even open it at this point.

Thanks,
Donnie
