 Hi Alan List Members,

From what I've been told, if the, Screen Track Virtual
Cursor option is checked this will supposedly do what y'all
 are wanting. Here's the steps:

 Here you go:
 1. Press the, Jaws key + 6, on the number row above the main
keyboard to open the Jaws Settings Center then press,
Control, Shift, + D, to open Jaws Settings Center default
 all applications.
 2. Arrow down to, Web / HTML / PDFs, press the right arrow
 to open.
 3. Arrow down to, Navigation, press right arrow to open.
 4. Arrow down to, Screen Tracks Virtual Cursor, if this is
unchecked press the spacebar to check it. If it's already
checked press the, Escape button, a couple of times to close
 the Settings Center.
 5. If you had to check the, Screen Tracks Virtual Cursor,
option tab to apply, press the spacebar, tab to okay, press
the spacebar to save your change close the Settings
 Center.

Is there a way for a sighted person to see on screen what I
am doing with JAWS? The only time this is important is when
I cannot accomplish something with JAWS and require a pair
of eyes. I will use JAWS to go to where I need help and my
wife has no idea of what I'm doing or where I am with JAWS
when looking at the screen. Is there any way around this? It
makes getting sighted assistance very difficult.

If you are using WLM2009, the account list can be found by going to Tools

I have received around 70 notices this morning of members who's subscription
have been disabled for bouncing. If any of you out there who are still
receiving messages know anybody on com cast, SBC Global, hot mail and a
number of other providers who have had their membership disable pending
reactivation by the server to have them contact their ISP and explain that
this domain is not a source of Spam that would be fantastic. Otherwise this
list might shut down a lot faster than I ever figured it would.
Granted the members in question have to follow the directions from the
mailman server to reactivate their accounts, I'm sure most of them will do
just that.

Actually Ed, Hotmail.com, then Live.com, and now outlook.com. Windows Live
Mail is a program that can be downloaded free from the Microsoft Download
 Center:

From here, you can get free downloads for many Microsoft products like
Windows and Office. You can also get Windows Live Essentials here by typing
it into the search box on the page, selecting the version that you want from
the search results, and then clicking download or get it, I forget just what
it says now, but you get the picture. Windows Live Mail is included in
Windows Live Essentials. I suggest the 2012 version, as it is the latest
version, and the software is being developed no more, but I believe it is
still supported. When installing, you will see 5 or 6 different softwares,
and I would only download Mail, Definitely do not download Messenger, and
the others are yours to choose from, but none of them have ever been of any
use to me. When you see the list during installation, press the space bar to
check the ones that you do want to install, and you will have to press the
right and left arrows to see them all.

I hope this helps you out, if you decide to download it, I will be glad to
assist you in the installation and or set up of the program. Just let me
 know.

 Hi Ed,

I'll tell you, I have found the Outlook.com site to be virtually
inaccessible. The best solution that I have found is using Windows Live
Mail, or some other Email client to set your accounts up in. They offer so
much more functionality, and they are easier to access. I have not even had
much luck in opening an email on the Outlook.com website. This would be my
advice to you as well. Hope this helps.

Yes, very much like Outlook Express. Infact, the program sometimes refers to
itself as Outlook Express. I hear this when I press the tab key to open a
folder like the Inbox, it says Outlook Express message list. I believe
they actually took Outlook Express and modified it a little and gave it a
new name, problem is, they forgot to take out all of the Outlook Express
references. lol. Either way, it is a good program, and it is easy to use.
Still, if you have any further questions, give me a shout.

Just let me
 know.

Kevin,

Look at the Adwcleaner I posted up here about ten days ago, extremely
accessible, caught more stuff than products like Malware Bytes does.

It is totally accessible.

Just remember my caveat: When it says it will close all programs, it means
it--including your screen reader.

Hi Kevin,

For the symptoms you describe, I would first delete all the browser junk
that accumulates over time. My sighted wife described these exact symptoms,
and a simple browser cleanup solved it all.

There are at least 3 different ways to get to the Internet Explorer cleanup
option. The most direct way is to press control, shift, and the delete key.
That will get to the proper place, and on my Windows 7, JAWS lands on the
cancel button. Press the tab key, and you will find a set of categories
of stuff to remove. These are check boxes, so you press the space bar to
select or deselect each category. The categories are self explanatory for
the most part. Keep tabbing, and you will get to the delete button, press
enter. Depending upon how long it has been since the last cleanup, it may
take a minute for all this to finish.

A malware tool is also a good thing to get, but I would first do the above,
since the malware tool would not touch these items that can really slow down
your browser.

I have been using Vipre Internet Security with JAWS since it first came out
on the market. Back then, when you bought the software, it was good for the
life of the computer, and I still have the same one. So, because of this, I
get the latest upgrade every year, so I now am running the 2014 version. It
works great, and is the most accessible anti virus software that I have ever
seen. All parts of it are accessible with JAWS, I use JAWS 15, and it is
simple to set up the scan schedule, which you can set it up to scan every
day if you wanted to and choose between a quick scan or a deep scan. A
manual scan is also easy to perform as is setting up the firewall to block
or allow all sorts of things. I recommend this software to anyone who asks.

You can use the JAWS Cursor navigate with arrow keys in Firefox after

 1. In Firefox, press ALT+T to open the Tools Menu and then choose Options.
 2. From the Advanced options, choose the General tab.

Hi there, does anybody know how to change the microphone volume on a Windows 7

and selecting desktop microphone, but I can't seem to save the change, is there
anything else I'm missing? All jaws says to me that demo version of Jaws that

Hi, I finally found the information on the version of Outlook I'm using, and
 it looks like it's Outlook 2006.  If I update to the latest version;
 1. Will it cost me anything? (I don't think so, but I'd like to be sure)
 2. Will I have to reconfigure everything, like set up new folders, rules,
 and stuff?
 3. Will I be able to retain all the emails I've saved in folders on my
 current version?
 4. Does 2010 have changes that will make it worth the trouble?

I can live happily with what I have, but one is always curious. I'm using
Windows 7 ultima and JAWS 14 (still).

I use outlook ten and windows seven and jaws fourteen. And Some of my email
from this list is going into my junk file. So to solve this problem I
selected email from this list. and pressed the application key. Then I
down arrowed to never block email from this list and pressed return. There I
found a message with a check box to check if I wanted to put this email list
on the safe list. So, I checked the box. I tabbed over to the OK button and
pressed it. However when I went back to make sure that the box was checked
it wasn't. And I still get email in my junk box for this email list. Is
there any way to view what is on your safe email list?

   Hello again Richard,

Do you know the type of file that this is? Try to save the attachment
instead of opening it, to be able to tell more about what type of file it
is, etc. Then if you trust the file, do an online search for an application
that will convert the file to something you can open with a program on your
computer. There is a web site, http://www.file.org/, where you can input the
file extension, and it will give you all the information about the file, and
what programs can be used to open it. It will also tell you if the extension
is usually associated with a known malware or the like.

 Subject: [JAWS-Users] Jaws Avast, incompatible?

Hi Folks. A few years ago I had my PC reformatted and Avast was installed
as my anti-virus. This caused quite a number of problems with Jaws not
performing properly and my computer not functioning as it should. Avast was
removed and AVG was installed and things then worked fine. I subsequently
bought a new computer and as AVG wasn't as good as it once was; it became
increasingly less accessible I thought with newer versions of Jaws that
perhaps Avast would be fine now. Well this has not proved to be the case of
late. With Jaws 14 and Jaws 15 every now and then I would lose speech and
could not re-launch it, at times I had to restart the PC. This would happen
at random times without a pattern and it became irritating. When my speech
failed I couldn't even launch NVDA to inquire of what might be the problem.
This would happen when backing out of folders or when going back to a
previous web page. I used to use the backspace for this command but this
problem occurred much too often. I then started to use the alt/left arrow
to back out of folders and move backwards on web pages and that helped to a
limited degree as it happened less often, but it still happened too
frequently. Avast has now been uninstalled and my PC is working like a
dream, so fast reacting and I can work at speed with confidence that the
computer and Jaws will keep up and not have a seizure. I have come to the
conclusion that Avast and Jaws are not really on good terms. I can't speak
for other screen readers but I know there is a problem with Jaws and Avast.
At this moment I have no anti-virus but I'm going to install Spybot as they
now also have an anti-virus version but you must pay for that. Has anyone
else had a similar problem with Avast? Walter.

The check for updates feature merely gives you the next build of the same
version, so for example, the latest build of jaws 10 right now is
   10.0.1154,
which is free to upgrade to because it is still jaws 10. The version of
   jaws
you have seems to be the original release of jaws 10, so yes, it will run
just fine under windows vista. Like I say, do a check for updates once
   it's
authorised, it won't hurt anything, and it won't cost you anything either
   because it's still jaws 10.

Hope this clarifies things a little,

In order for JAWS to do the upgrades you will probably need a
   current
SMA agreement with Freedom Scientific. Personally I have been blessed

How come my friend has so many problems with his laptop? If you are

   Hi. all
FYI For those who might wish to get the new iTunes, you might want to
   think
   about not doing so.
In iTunes 8.1 if you wanted to see your songs, you could tab until you
   got
to the list and them use up or down arrow to read your list. jaws did nice
job reading each song and if you wanted you could press space bar to play
   or
   stop.
In iTunes 8.2, you can no longer do so.
Now you need to tab to get to the list and you can no longer up or down
arrow. If you are in the list, pressing space bar will play a song. If you
want to go to the next, you need to tab to you get to the next button.
   Jaws
will not read the song title. You will need to do shift tab to go back to
the list or tab to be there. It is complicated now. I suggest keeping
   iTunes
8.1. It is to late for me, because I upgrated.

Re: [JAWS-Users] windows mail

2009-06-05 Thread Simon
well heres what I was told to do.

That's because you are not connecting to your e-mail server for some server.
Maybe its you, maybe it has nothing to do with you.

Sometimes, when your server goes down, you have to reset your modem. If you
have a power switch on your modem, turn it off for about 15 seconds and then
turn it back on. This will reset your modem. Not a bad idea to disconnect
your modem from your computer at both ends and plugging back in to make sure
your connections are secure.

If you don't have a power switch on your modem, simply unplug it for the
same 15 seconds and plug it back in.

Reboot your computer and hope for the best. If this doesn't work, check
with your company to see if they are having problems in your area.

Obviously, you don't have that problem right now or you wouldn't writing
this message.

Hello Arianna,

Try using the startup wizard from the JAWS help menu. In the second screen
of the wizard is a choice to have JAWS start after log-on for the current
user. Choose always from that combo box.

Take care.

Rick, the problem is that the above subject related to the question I sent
to the list about JAWS not starting at bootup. It had nothing to do with
 Skype.
I need an answer to this problem if someone has one.

   Dear List,

I have already posted this on the blind Computing list but David F has
agreed that in this instance it might be useful to post here also.

I have been using the revolutionary EyePal Scanner for 3 months now.
Some of you may have heard about this special scanner which to keep it
on topic does work well with Jaws. . I have decided to write a user
review. The headline is that it is awesome in some ways and I find it
is now indispensable for me. However it is let down by buggy software.

The link to the review is below. I hope you find it interesting if you
decide to read it. Needless to say I have no connection with any of
the manufactures or retailers of this device so this is completely
independent as you will probably tell from some of the criticisms.

is there any add-on for internet explorer like web visum in firefox?

On 5/26/09, Flor Lynch florl...@iol.ie wrote:
 Hi,

For that, there are now two alternative solutions.

One is to use the WebVisum extension with Firefox, and only with
Firefox, from www.webvisum.com/ and you can request an invitation
from there to be sent to your valid email address so that you can sign
up, verifying that you are a legitimate user. It has keystrokes for
various things - such as ctrl-alt-6 for acquiring the CAPTCHA image
and then sending it to WebVisum for analysis. the solution is then
copied to your clipboard so that you can paste it into the edit box.

the ssecond alternative now, for any browser - since it is 100% human
 - is to use the Solona CAPTCHA serbvice, from www.solona.net/ and you
then registerer. Read and note the instructions, which seem complex
but are not really. It's alll explained there at www.solona.net and
the links such as learn and how it works. Each of these solutions
has its pros and cons. When WebVisum can work, for the less complex
CAPTCHAs, it's faster. Human intervention is necessary, however, for
the more complex images that are now appearing with more frequency.
Happily, apart from being confounded by CAPTCHAs in themselves, JAWS
 will read the solutions.

  Hi Folks,

Anyone have any idea what a land mark is on a web page?

I'm assuming it has something to do with it's navigation or some such, but a
site I've been accessing on a daily basis for the last year or so seems to have
screwed up to the point that I can't access it the way I used to.

For example, one of the data tables that house the message lists are not
displaying properly, and I can't click on some of the links, particularly in my
mail options page, which is important to me and how I view my mail.

Some of you may be familiar with this change as I have noticed it on Yahoo's
mail servers page.

Those with an A T T/SBC Global account may notice this type of change.

Can anyone tell me if this is related to Internet Explorer 8 or not, or
whether this is yahoo's fault, as I have noticed that they tend to make changes
to their website without our consultation.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

  Thanks.

HTML is the default setting for sending email. I am not sure what list you
are referring to but that does surprise me that they would specifically
   ask
for plain text email. HTML allows you to include pictures and links. As
   far
as I can tell, all of the emails you have sent to the JAWS forum are in
HTML--and this does not bother me.

An easy way to change the formatting of the email you are writing is to
press the alt key and pull down your Format menu. Go down the options in
this menu and you will find an option to write your email in plain text.
Press enter and it will warn you that you may lose some of the data in
   your
email--pictures, symbols, etc. Press enter again to confirm you want to go
ahead anyway. I would not recommend saving these changes permanently since
most people prefer receiving email in HTML. I am not sure if you can make
   such a change.

focus by choosing it from the tools menu in Windows Mail.

The first thing you need to do is to go under the view menu in Windows
contacts and press enter on the customize this folder choice. Move to
the customize page tab in the dialog box. In the what kind of folder do
you want list of choices use up or down arrow keys and choose contacts.
Use tab to apply button and then OK.
This will bring up the toolbar with the choice for creating a group. From
the list of contact names use tab key four times until you hear the
organize button announced. Use right arrow key three times to the new
contact group button and press spacebar.
In the resulting dialog box there are two pages. Contact group tab and
group details. Focus should be in the contact group page. You can use
tab key to the controls in this dialog box and use the edit boxes for
entering names and E-mail addresses of contacts to add to the group, or
you can use tab key to the add to contact group button and press
spacebar. You can then use tab or shift+tab to move to the list of
contacts and use normal Windows selecting keystrokes to select names and
then use tab to the ad button and press spacebar. Once names are added
just leave dialogs by tabbing to the OK button and pressing spacebar.

Take care.

David has done an excewllent audio tutorial for Image for windows, but I
can't remember the link just now.
He explains step by step how to make a backup and how to restore from it.
Exellent job.

Gerald Levy said the following on 15.05.2009 14:58:

Greetings all. I would like to create a backup copy of my C drive and
save it to an external hard drive (preferably a USB-powered portable
hard

drive) so that I would be able to perform a complete system restore in
the event of a catastrophic computer failure. Can this be accomplished
using the Windows Backup utility that comes with XP Pro? Or are there
any other free, JAWS-friendly programs that would be better suited for
this purpose? And are there any tutorials that explain how to perform a
complete system backup and restore using one of these programs? Thanks
for any advice or suggestions.

 Gerald
