type the following in to the run command:

after you type this in and press enter, tab twice and hit the spacebar and
you should have sound.

Legend has it that on Saturday 2/21/2009 06:42 PM, Patricia Dunbar said:

I have done all I know to do and now I need the professionals.

I know one time this happened before and we had to type something at the

This is an xp pro with jaws 9 plus.

Re: [JAWS-Users] No Speech or Windows Sounds

2009-02-21 Thread afsmel

   hi patricia,
I don't know if you have normal keyboard or multimedia keyboar.
the multimedia keyboard is a keyboard which is desigened with some small
upper keys to control media without interfering with the control panner, so
if your keyboard is so try the upper keys it may work...
why don't you try to enter as they said via sndvol32. then the first tab
will be for balance leave it pressing tab. you will be on the second slider
which is for volume, first press home then insert+tab if jaws is here it
will bring a sound if not press end then insert+tab if this didn't work tab
once again but here press space bar followed by insert tab to get assure of
the sound. if still didn't work, tab twice again and press end once and
home once, as in some cases the home doesn't move you up but moves you down
and vice-versa...

Hi Patricia,

do you get windows sounds, and/or Narrator to come up when you activate
it?

If you do, this may be a Jaws issue, and not necessarily a system volume
problem like that other person suggested.

If you aren't getting any sound of any kind, then it may be the volume is
set to low, or the mute is on, in which case, you may be able to do the
following:

press insert+F11 to bring up the system tray. You'll have to trust that
it's there and hope for the best. Smile.

Once you do this, press the letter V and it should take you straight to
the
volume icon. This is assuming, of course, that the Volume icon is the
only

icon there starting with the letter V. If you absolutely know that it is
not, then we may have a bit of trouble here.

Suffice it to say, I don't think it hurts to try this anyway.

Once you've pressed the letter V, tab twice to the left single click
button
and press the spacebar. You may have to wait a few seconds, as the
Master

Volume control may not pop up right away.

Doing this will bring up only the slider and mute button for the master
volume, so, after you've waited a couple of seconds, press the home key,
and
this will raise your volume to 100%. If this still doesn't bring any
sound

back to your computer, tab once and press the spacebar, as you will be on
the mute checkbox, and if it's checked, this will bring back the sound.

Once you've done all of this, and you still don't have any sound, I'm
afraid
you have to start looking in a different place for your solution,
possibly a
loos connection on the back of your computer, make sure the power button
on

the speakers are turned on and the volume of the speakers are turned up
enough to hear it's sound, and also check to see if the power cord is
plugged in to the electrical outlet where you have it plugged in.

Other than that, you may have to get someone sighted to look at the sound
card properties in the device manager and see if there are any yellow
marks

beside the sound card.

If there are, you may have to go in and check out it's settings and make
sure it's enabled.

Let us know how you do.

The people who are working on Skype 4 haven't yet resolved all the
accessibility issues and when one tries to download the software, you are
advised to continue using Skype Version 3.8 until all the accessibility
issues have been resolved.

I downloaded Skype 4 but after trying to make a call to a landline phone,
I reverted to the earlier version. We will know in the course of time

I'm receiving conflicting reports on the program. Some folks are saying
it's a night mare, where others are touting it's virtues. I am thinking
that more opinions are in order before I subject myself to the
inconvenience of trying out something that might not work very well.

Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS Dell Netbooks: Starting Too Slowly

2009-02-11 Thread afsmel

hi Jack and Harold, what I'm going to tell you is my own assumption and
personal experience go to jaws main minue then choose options. then choose
basic, from it go to advanced, then uncheck all unnecessary options to you
but the last option ofcourse. this may bring jaws up gfast to you

thanks alot

Hi Harold,

It's not your notebook searching for a wireless connection. I have a PC
that's about a year old running Windows Vista. After the log-on sound, it
can take a full minute before Jaws starts talking. I had someone sighted
here, and the screen looks as it should, it's just waiting for Jaws to
catch

up with the computer. Not sure why the lag time in loading, but it is
really slow. Sorry I don't have an answer to your question, but you're
not

alone.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] JAWS Dell Netbooks: Starting Too Slowly

Morning All

I recently purchased a Dell Mini 12 Netbook, and I'm curious if anyone
could

enlighten me as to methods for getting JAWS 10 to start more quickly. I
believe the combination of my Dell both searching for a wireless signal,
as

well as enabling its Bluetooth option, could be the main culprits.

Any thoughts

Harold Wieber
