Re: [JAWS-Users] Additional Note Regarding Outlook Chrashing Issue When Entering E-mail Addresses Into A New E-mail

2017-11-17 Thread Mr. Ed
Hi Everyone,
I have a friend who is using Jaws 2018 and Office 365 and he had issues with
his Outlook not populating the emails in the To field. He said he then
uninstalled Jaws 18 from his computer and just left the latest Jaws 2018 on
his computer and all is working well with his Outlook. I cannot say if this
would fix any of you guys issues. Can anyone verify if this has help any of
you guys.

Tom,

I know of two ways to get Outlook up in safe mode.

You can use the Windows run command and type:
outlook.exe /safe

Here is what you want to do to keep opening it in safe mode by creating a
shortcut:

You can also create a new shortcut to outlook.exe and add the /safe switch;

First, determine the location of outlook.exe on your system. In general
you'll find it under;

  a.. 32-bit version of Windows
  C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office
  b.. 64-bit version of Windows
  C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office If you
can't find it, do a search for outlook.exe or use OutlookTools (free)
instead.

Once you've found outlook.exe we create a shortcut to it with the /safe
switch to prevent Outlook from opening an extra window each time you click
the shortcut or use your keyboard shortcut.

1.. Right click on an empty space on your Desktop and choose New->
Shortcut
2.. Type the path to outlook.exe between quotes or browse to its location
via the Browse. button
3.. Type a space behind that and /safe
4.. The entire line should now look like this (example is for a 32-bit
version of Outlook 2010 on a 64-bit version of Windows);
  "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14\OUTLOOK.EXE" /safe
  5.. Click Next
6.. Name your shortcut for instance: Outlook Safe Mode
  7.. Click Finish

Hello, everyone.

Yesterday, you may recall that I was told by Freedom Scientific Tech
Support

that the best way to solve the issue of Outlook Crashing when entering
addresses into the "to" field of a new e-mail message was to put Outlook
in

safe mode.

This is continuing to work for me, although I must add that if you shut
your
computer down for any reason, you will have to go back into Outlook and
put

it back into safe mode.

Apparently, the safe mode setting isn't saved, as I have just discovered.

Miriam:

The only suggestion I have at this point is to hit enter on the item you get
when you try to open Outlook in safe mode.

For me, it says something like Outlook 1, and if I hit enter on it, I'm put
in safe mode.

Why this is all so necessary is beyond me.

If you can't get things to work, I'd call Freedom Scientific Tech Support.

I'm saying this for two reasons:

1. They really should help you with your issue, as they helped me; and

2. The more people alert them to this issue, the higher it will become on
their priority list of things to fix.

Please keep me posted, and let me know how things turn out for you.

Tom,

I can't get into Outlook safe mode again. Each time I try, it tells me I
have to identify the switch I'm using or something like that. I was out,
turned off the computer, came back, found your message, tried to open a
message with an address, and couldn't. Then I tried to follow the directions
that I followed yesterday and they don't work today.
