After pasting all, repeat the paste special individually for FROMAT and CELL
WIDTH etc.

I am trying to copy and paste information from one work sheet to another.
However, when I do this, the cell formatting is not being pasted along
 with
the cell contents. I am using the paste special option, and selecting
All. Any idea what I am doing wrong?

Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Finding out column width in excel

 Annette,

I am an engineer and use Excel daily (office 2003 /JFW 8). Excel measures
everything in points (printer's points). In JFW 8, pressing insert-f
 twice
quickly will describe the atributes of the active cell to you in a
 dialogue
box. One of the pieces of information provided is the height and width of
the cell in points, e.g., cell dimentions are 54 points wide by 12 points
heigh. The number of characters you can fit in 54 points depends on the
 font you have selected.

All cells in a column must be the same width. That's why there is no way
 to
individually adjust the width of a cell.

It is a quirk of Excel that you can enter a column width in number of
characters instead of points I guess this makes it easier for some
 people.
But, for the purposes of laying out a page, the only way you will be able
 to
know if everything fits widthwise is to add up the active column widths in
points. For a typical portrait layout with 3/4-in. margins, you have a
total width of 432 points to work with. For a landscape layout with the
same margins, you have a total of 684 points to work with.

Hope this clears things up for you.

One final note, in earlier versions of JAWS, you only need to press
 insert-f
once to hear the cell's attributes.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Excel pasteing all cell features

2007-09-12 Thread Darrin Porter
Annette,

Remember, one thing that will not be adjusted when copying and pasting
data from one worksheet to another is the column width. All other
attributes, such as alignment, number formatting, font, etc. should
transfer okay. This is actually the default, so you really don't need
to use the paste special function. You can simply use control-v. The
only way to get the column width to transfer is to select the entire
column using the control-space bar function, copy it and paste it. This
will copy the entire column, including all of its formatting. Remember,
though, that you must be focused on the top row of the spreadsheet you
are pasting to before pressing control-v. Otherwise you will get an
error message.

Thank you very much for that info. I can now stop knocking my head against
this brick wall of a computer. I'll have to re-think what I had planned to
do.

Again, Thanks!

2007-09-11 Thread Estelita
Hi,
Try using link worksheets and see how it works.
Select your desired cells to copy, go to the worksheet where you want to
copy, activate Edit menu and press S, then L to paste link.
