Hi, Rick & Adrian,

Try playing around with the, Customize this folder, option in the View menu.
For example, I have a folder called, My Programs, & within this folder I
have over 300 sub-folders. Well, I really can't explain how I got to the
point of Jaws reporting how many folders, but it was through this View
menu option that I believe I got Jaws to report correctly. I'm not going to
swear by it, because its been quite awhile ago, & a lot experimentation that
got me where I'm at. So, it doesn't hurt to try , but make sure you retain
/remember your prior settings so you can revert back to them in case I'm
wrong.
Take care.

Rick and LeDon,

I also have a 64-bit Win7 machine. On my system, JAWS reports the details
the way you and I would like when it comes to subfolders. For example, in
Windows Explorer, JAWS will report the number of subfolders within a folder
and the position of each subfolder within that list.

the distinction between file and subfolder becomes apparent in the Win7
Music folder. I have subfolders identified by artist, and within each
artist's subfolder may be more than one album subfolder. However, when I
bring up a list of tracks, i.e., files, I get the behavior you report. (JAWS
reports the main subfolders in Music weirdly, but that's another issue.)

JAWS also reports number and position details in MS word 2010. However, if
I'm not mistaken, Word treats what we think of as individual files
(documents) as though they were subfolders. I say this because if you have
more than one document open, you can close one of them with the alt-F4
close-window command without closing the Word application.

I'm not sure this is helpful, but I do wonder if FS could find a solution in
this disparity. I agree, I wish JAWS reported this level of detail
consistently.

Hi Mike,
Thanks for the tip, but in my line of thinking, a person shouldn't have to
change view settings on the computer to accommodate different versions of
Jaws.
Jaws has always read the list views properly in the past,
and there is no reason that it shouldn't continue to do so.
Another interesting note, the way the number of items in a list view is read
is inconsistent.
It becomes tiresome trying to adjust for a screen-reader that is supposed to
make life on the computer easier.
Anyway, thanks for the suggestion!

Re: [JAWS-Users] File count in a folder

2016-03-18 Thread Jim

Hi, Rick & Adrian, and Mike.
I shut off Jaws and then restart Jaws to get Jaws to correctly read the
number of files or folders on my computer.

I too have some folders with hundreds of items in them.
This fixes the problem every time and Jaws reads the number of items
correctly.

I have let Freedom Scientific know about this problem in the past.
So until they fix it, just shut down Jaws and start it again to fix the
issue.

I hope this helps.
Now time for more coffee!
