Re: [JAWS-Users] Get Windows 10 is back!
Hi, all: I had some extra time this morning, so I downloaded, installed, and ran the GWX control panel program for getting rid of the nagging "get windows 10" message on this computer. And, I think it worked. Sure hope those aren't famous last words! (grin) Anyway, I appreciate everyone's patience as I have addressed this issue. I do plan to upgrade to Windows 10 here at some point (probably this summer), but would like the option and the timing of it to be under my control. Re: [JAWS-Users] Get Windows 10 is back!
Rick: I may just do that. Up until last night, I was content to see if what the Microsoft Accessibility help line specialist did would help, but obviously it was not successful. I am just reluctant to put software on a computer for something like this if it is not needed. I guess my bigger point is that we should not constantly be badgered about software updates, especially updates that don't go away, despite Microsoft's own efforts to try to make that happen. I have an iPhone, and am constantly getting updates on the lates IOS updates, but the option to accept or hide them is always there and easy to invoke by the end user. Why can't that be the same with Microsoft? Re: [JAWS-Users] Get Windows 10 is back!
Hi Holjer, If you chose to install it, or are just going to use the stand-alone version, all you need to do is run the program, and follow the prompts. I haven't written any instructions for using this utility but someone else on the list may have. It's been awhile since I ran it, so I can't give you steps off-the-top-of-my-head. Re: [JAWS-Users] Get Windows 10 is back!
Tom, Download the standalone version of GWX control panel and run it. It does not install anything on your computer. It just sets the options to prevent the downloading and installation of W10. This is not rocket science. It just works. I have run it on a dozen computers with no adverse effects. And in the future, if you decide you want to install W10, just run the program again and it will reverse the changes it has previously made, allowing you to download and install W10. I agree that I never want to install unnecessary software on my computers. In this particular case, this program just works and it is fully accessible with Jaws, which is an added wonderful bonus. So, go ahead and do it and kick that annoying W10 nag out of your life.
