[JAWS-Users] I can't reinstall jaws 9

2008-10-07 Thread Alex Stone
Yesterday, I had a complete jaws nightmare. I thought to myself "I'm running
out of disk space, I know what I'll do, I'll uninstall jaws 8 since I don't
need it anymore". I told the uninstall process not to remove shared
components, but, just to irritate me, it did anyway. It also took it upon
itself to remove all my display drivers.
Having managed to het my display drivers back, and reactivated jaws. Jaws 10
works perfectly, but when I try to run jaws 9 it tells me: One or more
shared components are not installed, please reinstall to solve this problem.
When I try to reinstall, I have the same problem, it tells me to hit enter
to start the installation, goes through the clicking process while it
installs the talking installer or whatever it does and still comes up wit
the same message. I can't uninstall jaws 9 due to the same problem.
Somebody please help me before I go nuts!
Cheers
Alex

Alex,
Cid you do your uninstall from the programs menu or from the control panel?
I had a similar experience with I think it was 7 and I ended up using
sighted assistance and literally removing all things jaws from my hard drive
and starting with a clean install.

Re: [JAWS-Users] I can't reinstall jaws 9

2008-10-07 Thread Chris Hallsworth

I had a thought. This is for advanced users only.
1. Open regedit.exe. This is the Registry Editor.
2. Locate the key HKEY_Classes_Root\Installer\Products.
3. Do a find for JAWS. This is done with control+f. I don't think case
matters here.
4. Delete any entries that relate to it, but only for the above key. You can
check this using the standard status bar command, insert num pad 3 or caps
lock shift n.

5. Exit Registry Editor.
The above affectively tells Windows that you've never installed JAWS before.
Hope this helps.

Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] I can't reinstall jaws 9

I had a thought. This is for advanced users only.
1. Open regedit.exe. This is the Registry Editor.
2. Locate the key HKEY_Classes_Root\Installer\Products.
3. Do a find for JAWS. This is done with control+f. I don't think case
matters here.
4. Delete any entries that relate to it, but only for the above key. You can

check this using the standard status bar command, insert num pad 3 or caps
lock shift n.
5. Exit Registry Editor.
The above affectively tells Windows that you've never installed JAWS before.
Hope this helps.

Flor, No I'm using my replacement, I've also downloaded jaws 9 from the
Freedom Scientific website and I have the same problem.

Alex,
I think you got a faulty JAWS9 CD. (yes, there were faulty CD's sent out,
though this was supposed to have been corrected with replacements.) My
own

one was fine.

When I try and uninstall from either the start menu or the control panel
I

get the following message:
Windows Installer
This patch package could not be opened. Verify that graphic 683 the
patch
package exists and that you can access it, or
contact the application vendor to verify that this is a
valid Windows Installer patch package.
I also get this message if I use my jaws 9 cd..
Cheers

Alex,
Cid you do your uninstall from the programs menu or from the control
panel?
I had a similar experience with I think it was 7 and I ended up using
sighted assistance and literally removing all things jaws from my hard
drive
and starting with a clean install.

Yesterday, I had a complete jaws nightmare. I thought to myself "I'm
running
out of disk space, I know what I'll do, I'll uninstall jaws 8 since I
don't
need it anymore". I told the uninstall process not to remove shared
components, but, just to irritate me, it did anyway. It also took it upon
itself to remove all my display drivers. Having managed to het my display
drivers back, and reactivated jaws. Jaws 10 works perfectly, but when I
try
to run jaws 9 it tells me: One or more shared components are not
installed,
please reinstall to solve this problem. When I try to reinstall, I have
the
same problem, it tells me to hit enter to start the installation, goes
through the clicking process while it installs the talking installer or
whatever it does and still comes up wit the same message. I can't
uninstall
jaws 9 due to the same problem. Somebody please help me before I go nuts!
Cheers Alex
