I saw it in a technology blog. Do a google search for 12TB solidstate
drive; it will be one of the first few results.

Ah I see. That kind of makes one question the idea of it then doesn't it?
The failor thing that is. I just thought it would be cool because you have
a

lot in 1 place and it's out of the way since it's in a PCIE slot, and it's
mad fast and all that stuff. Where did you find out the price? I thought
it

haden't come out. Can you send me the link to it's page? Send it to
hamitcam...@gmail.com if you want to do it off list. I want to take a
look..

Thanks.

Just one slight caveat. Bigger is not always better. Remember, if you
get
a 4TB drive as compared to a 1TB drive, the magnetic plates are thinner,
so
the failure rate is going to be marginally higher. So, balance your
storage

needs versus longevity.

Also, solidstate drives won't tolerate as many write/rewrites, so they are
better as a place where you load your operating system and programs, i.e.
things that you won't move and rewrite as much. SSD's do fail, and
typically, when they do it is pretty sudden and likely data is lost. That
12TB drive you mentioned had multiple RAID backups to protect it from
failing, but then for $240,000 bucks I'd hope it would.

Take my advice, I don't use it anyway.

If you can afford 3tb, you need 3tb lol. Remember when computers were really
something if they had 128K of memory? Now, you couldn't even turn the thing
on with that small a memory. Programs just get bigger and the things we use
computers for just get more complex. So, use your own judgment. Whatever you
buy, you will fill it up with priceless stuff you can't bear to lose.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws-compatible Terabites

2013-05-01 Thread Steve
Just one slight caveat. Bigger is not always better. Remember, if you get
a 4TB drive as compared to a 1TB drive, the magnetic plates are thinner, so
the failure rate is going to be marginally higher. So, balance your storage
needs versus longevity.

Twelve T wow. That's plenty of space. Sounds nice. Someone tried to talk me

You're welcome. I just wanted to correct 1 thing. It's 2 thousand gigs if
you get a 2 terabite drive like me. The one your uncle is talking about
only
has 1000 gigabites. There are 3 and 4 TB drives too. Now you meantion flash
drives though, that reminds me of one I'd really love to have. It was shown
at CES. It's a PCIE one which means you stick it in the back of your pc
like
a sound card, and it's what's called an SSD or Solid State drive. It
literally is like a flash or thumb drive. This one has 12 terabites.tThat
means 12 thousand gigabites I think. So, how do you like that? I for one
love it and cant weight until it comes out.

Well, all the Terabite thing means is that the My Passport has 2000
gigabites. So the terabite thing doesn't mater when it comes to Jaws. I'm
just saying incase no one has explained the terabite thing to you. It just
means you'll have 2000 gigabites of memory. The software is the problem,
and
I guess some of it does work with JAWS from what I've been reading here, I
haven't used mine though.

no, the auto install software means that it has a program on it that is
supposed to assist you with using your drive effectively, such as a
automated backup program and/or its users manuals. its not something I would
wish for since I do not want to have to tell my drive no, as I said before,
I do not want that when I plug it in and/or turn it on.

plug and play items are ones that you plug it in it beeps and loads the

I don't know if they are still available but, this website has sales very
often on these external harddrives.

This website used to be:

ah, now you have cleared things up, most of us probably haven't herd of that
particular drive so you need to be more clear in your questions, which is
what David was trying to tell you

I work in the hardware industry and have never herd of that drive.

for the main part you would be easier to use windows explorer to move data,
or a backup program that you know is accessible.

Microsoft sync toy works, Karen's replacator works good for non-operating
system data copying, and just copying and pasting the various folders from
the computer to the drive works alright as well, if you don't mind doing the
work by hand.

Hi Nicole,

Personally I have had very good luck with the Fantom harddrives made by
Micronet. They were on sale for $69.99 after a $20.00 rebate from the link
below:

I don't know if they are still available but, this website has sales very
often on these external harddrives.

What that means I think is that if you buy a however many terrabyte external
drive, you plug it into a usb port and the computer and your external drive
do what is needed for them to talk to each other without you having to do
anything like run some program. Some people call this plug and play meaning
you plug it in and you are ready to go after it makes a sound the first time

Well, all the Terabite thing means is that the My Passport has 2000
gigabites. So the terabite thing doesn't mater when it comes to Jaws. I'm
just saying incase no one has explained the terabite thing to you. It just
means you'll have 2000 gigabites of memory. The software is the problem, and
I guess some of it does work with JAWS from what I've been reading here, I
haven't used mine though.

I use a My Book Western Digital Drive that is 2 Terabites and I to use just
Windows Explorer on win 7, and File Explorer as it's called on Win 8. It
works just fine. As for software, it does have it, I even think it's manual
is on it too. But, I don't use it. It even has a way to format it built
right in.

Yes, I'm looking for an external hard drive that works with Jaws. I read
that terabites come with auto-installing software.

You're welcome. I just wanted to correct 1 thing. It's 2 thousand gigs if
you get a 2 terabite drive like me. The one your uncle is talking about only
has 1000 gigabites. There are 3 and 4 TB drives too. Now you meantion flash
drives though, that reminds me of one I'd really love to have. It was shown
at CES. It's a PCIE one which means you stick it in the back of your pc like
a sound card, and it's what's called an SSD or Solid State drive. It
literally is like a flash or thumb drive. This one has 12 terabites.tThat
means 12 thousand gigabites I think. So, how do you like that? I for one
love it and cant weight until it comes out.
