You know David, i was just thinking about that. I am so used to AVG downloading the latest virus definitions, I never thought to check to see if Microsoft Security Essentials is doing the same thing. I think you might be experiencing a problen with Windows Update where it gets stuck and can not finish the update. This is fairly common. Common is probably the wrong term because Windows Update workks flawlessly for a huge majority of the time for an extremely huge number of users. However, it does happen often enough that Microsoft has posted a tech note for how to clean this out and reset the update.
