Re: [JAWS-Users] Microsoft Outlook 2003 and JAWS

Interesting.

It shows you how varied and annoying computers can be. My experience is the
exact polar opposite. Since I moved to plain text emails Jaws reads
everything fine but in html things are much more unpredictable.

I guess you have to find what works best on your system.

Hi:

It's been my experience when using Outlook that if you do choose everything
to be presented in text form you will have trouble replying to those
meslsages that were originally HTML. You won't be able to tell what you're
writing and JAWS just says blank blank.

Then tab down until you hear
Read all standard mail in plain text You need to press space bar to
check this.
You can also check
Read all digitally signed mail in plain text as well.
OK out of this window after changing settings.

To send Mail in Plain text.

Go to Tool and Options again but do not go into E Mail Options.
Instead this time press control tab until you hear mail format.
The option to send in plain text should be the first option you find here.

In a logical world all these settings would be in the same place but
what do we know ?

Hope that helps.

Hi David,

Thanks for your email! Things are working quite well here now; I
unchecked the checkbox for using MS Word as the default email editor.
As for fourcing Outlook to send/receive in plane text...how do I
disable that? I know I've seen that option somewhere, but right now I
can't remember where I've seen it.

Thanks,
Michael

I am not sure I can definitely answer all of your questions but I can
make some suggestions..

1. Jaws not reading all of a line in the message list.
Jaws will only read what is on the screen so you might want to make
sure that you are giving enough room for the whole line to be read.
Go to the view menu and make sure that the reading pane is either set
to bottom or off. Personally I have it set to off. If you have reading
pane set to right then this will reduce the space for your email
message headings and create the effect you describe.

I also have auto preview turned off which for me makes navigating
through the message list easier.

2. I do not use Microsoft Word as the editor and force Outlook to both
send and receive messages in plain text. I do not have the problems
that you describe so perhaps you should try these settings.
3. Auto complete not being read. Not completely sure about this but 2
suggestions.
Firstly make sure that your email message window is maximised. Programs
like Autosizer can automate this for you.
If this does not work then experiment with screen echo settings You do
this by pressing Insert plus s to toggle between all, highlighted or
none. I have found that different installations of Outlook on different
PCs like different Jaws settings. I have no idea why.

Let us know if any of this works.

Hi everyone,

I am wondering if there are any recommended settings other than those
presented in the Outlook 2003 helpful hints to make JAWS work better
with it? I've just recently installed Outlook and noticed a few things:

1. When in the message list, the display names and subjects from emails
cut off after what I believe is the first line of text. If I am
receiving an email from [EMAIL PROTECTED], JAWS reads it as something
like [EMAIL PROTECTED]
The same thing happens with the subject. This doesn't happen in Outlook
Express, so I'm guessing there is a way to correct this?
2. 2. When replying to messages, the reply window takes forever to load
up. Why is this? Does it have anything to do with the setting to use
Microsoft Word as the message editor?
3. 3. JAWS does not announce auto-completion of email addresses as I
type; I thought there was an option for this but I can't find

are. Is there a list of settings like the helpful hint on the JAWS-Users
page? (Oh, and David, people do look at those!)

Thanks,
