Re: [JAWS-Users] Multiple Folder Names

2018-06-26 Thread Brian Lee
Hello Jerry,

One way you can do this and avoid a lot of cleanup is as follows:

1. In File Explorer or Windows Explorer move focus into the folder where
the subfolders reside.
2. Select all by using CTRL with A.
3. Use shift key with the application key and find the "Copy as path"
option in the menu. Press enter on that menu item.
4. Open a blank document in Word and paste what you copied by using CTRL
with V.
5. On the first line that shows the entire path followed by the name of the
file or subfolder move focus to the first letter or character of the
subfolder or file name. This will be the first character past the backslash
that divides the main folder and the subfolders.
6. press Shift key with the Home key to select to the beginning of the line
and use CTRL C to copy that text. This is the path up until the subfolder
or file name that you are selecting and copying.
7. use CTRL with H.
8. Paste what you copied into the Find What box.
9. Tab to the Replace All button and use spacebar.
10. Answer OK when Word tells you the number of replacements made.
11. Use CTRL H again, select and remove the text from the Find What box and
type a " (shift on apostrophe).
12. Tab to the Replace all button and use it.
13. Answer OK.

When the path is copied Windows uses an opening and closing quote. Steps
11, 12 and 13 are for getting rid of the end quote at the end of the file or
subfolder name. A different approach might be needed if there are any
quotes in the subfolder names.

There are ways to do this task from the command line but I have found there
is usually more cleanup needed as extraneous information ends up in the file
you create using some of those other methods.

Take care.

Morning all.

I hope I can explain what I am asking about and still make sense.

If I have multiple subfolders in a main folder, is there a way to copy the
subfolder names and paste them into a Word 13 document, or would I have to
type the names indivudally? I am running jaws 2018, Windows 10 and word 13
on a dell laptop. Thanks in advance for any help.

See if you can get the folder names in focus, then go into the JAWS virtual
window with JAWS key-alt-w. If I were you, I'd then select all with control-a,
then copy with control-c. Escape to exit the virtual window. Now paste into a
document and edit.
