No mate, you should be fine to keep both 8 and 9 on your computer. That is
what I do.

lol mine was running 98 second edition. I also had a laptop that I just sold
not to long ago for about $2, that's probably all it's worth lol. It had
41mb ram, a 1.97gb hard disk, win98FE, and a jaws demo. It only had 26mb

It doesn't matter how many you have, you could have every version from
 3.0
or whatever the first windows version was and jaws 9 would still work
 great.
On my old pc I still have jaws 4.51 demo, it was once fully licensed,

someone installed windows xp pro over win98...

How many versions should one keep on one's computer of Jaws and
should/should not??

Currently, I have only version 8. I just removed the Jaws 7.01. Now I'll
install the jaws 9 and then the current update for it only because of that
AVG 8 otherwise I would stay put as I'm content with jaws 8..

Thanks,

Patricia

Patricia, from what others have posted in the past, you don't have to keep
any as long as you keep shared components. I still have 8 on my computer as
well as v. 9. It doesn't hurt anything. marilyn

You're fortunate then. I have had instances of jaws crashing and messing
up the keyboard intercept and the sound to where no other screen reader
would work. Doesn't happen a lot but it does happen. Only recourse here is
a reboot.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Multiple Versions of Jaws

2008-07-23 Thread Patricia Dunbar
Gotta love those reboots? hehehhe
I take it back I had a jaws crash thingy, but only because of something
stupid I did by when I installed a new version, I accidently assigned the
new version to the old versions same shortcut key, and that landed me in no
talk zone...
That's a good lesson for anyone to remember to check what letter is already
set for prior versions before installing a new one.

You're fortunate then. I have had instances of jaws crashing and messing
up the keyboard intercept and the sound to where no other screen reader
would work. Doesn't happen a lot but it does happen. Only recourse here
 is
 a reboot.

How many versions should one keep on one's computer of Jaws and
 should/should not??

Currently, I have only version 8. I just removed the Jaws 7.01. Now
 I'll
install the jaws 9 and then the current update for it only because of
 that
AVG 8 otherwise I would stay put as I'm content with jaws 8..

Currently, I have only version 8. I just removed the Jaws 7.01. Now

I have versions 5 through 9 and no problems. You are able to use multiple
versions on the same PC. Some choose to and others do not.

Auto language select I'm assuming. If you want only US englis then go
 into
configuration manager by pressing insert + 6 on the number row or F2 and
arrow down to configuration manager. Control + Shift + D and listen for
jaws to say default. Press Alt + S and arrow down to Text processing and
enter. Tab to automatically detect language and un check the box and then
tab to ok and press spacebar on it. Control + S to save and then Alt + F4
to exit and then the voices should be the same then.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Multiple Versions of Jaws

2008-07-23 Thread Rachel Magario
I have not had much issues when I run only one or 2 versions, when I have
more however, at times it gets funny and sometimes a different versions
comes up instead of the one I chose for the computer to boot with, for those
issues, I chose only to keep 8.0 and 9. But I think it is as matter of
personal choice and also of how much your system can handle.

Yes we have to be nice to jaws don't we? could you tell me why I've got
 two
different voices on my computer? when I'm typing I've got an American
telling me what I've written, but when I read the email back, it's a
 British
voice. Well well well we did fight side by side in the war didn't
 we?hehehehehehehehe.

And to get my attention after I posted this message the Jaws Gods
 crashed
 my
system to show their displeasure at my speaking badly of jaws.

You're fortunate then. I have had instances of jaws crashing and
 messing
up the keyboard intercept and the sound to where no other screen reader
would work. Doesn't happen a lot but it does happen. Only recourse
 here
 is
 a reboot.

It won't necessarily work either in some cases if Jaws clobbers things
 good.

oh really, hmmm. I thought Fs always recommended to have an extra older
version in the event something happened to cause one of them to stop
 working?

How many versions should one keep on one's computer of Jaws and
 should/should not??

Currently, I have only version 8. I just removed the Jaws 7.01. Now
 I'll
install the jaws 9 and then the current update for it only because of
 that
AVG 8 otherwise I would stay put as I'm content with jaws 8..

 Thanks,

 Patricia
