Hi,
A Seagate product usually installs it's self to your Pc through a Seagate drive
.
Also, it will install a folder in your documents called Free Agent Seagate,
inside the folder there is a installer application.

Try updating the firmware through the Seagate website and register your product.
Also check, if your Seagate is compatible to your machine?
HTH,
Jorge

Hi all.
I just purchased a Seagate external drive on which to back up files
currently on my computer.
If it helps, I am currently using Jaws 11, and Windows XP.
Do I have to install the Seagate Dash-board file in order to use my drive?
If so, is this software accessible.
If I don't have to install the software that came with this drive, can I
just start copying files to the drive?
Thanks in advance.

Sorry to throw a wrench in, but is this also true for Western Digital

2014-03-15 Thread Jorge Rivas
 Dooi,
I don't know about your HD.

I have a 1.5 tarabit Seagate, which will last a life time and still be
empty.

The second one my Vist at the VA ordered one from EVAS, one of the support
the Government uses. That one was just a plug in and use for a Dell, I forgot
the name and it's capasity.

Are you having a hard time trying to get to open it or operate it?
Just plug in the USB, turn on the external.
Go to my computer and arrow down and see, if the external HD is highlighted
.
Press enter to open it.
Wait, and see, if it's trying to download files to your PC, if not move on.
Now Copy paste a useless file and see, if it pasted.
If, you were able to paste and copy files in and out, it's working fine.

My next thought was to scan the thin manual and save it as a word doc and
study your options.

Pete,

I don't know about your specific external drive. If it comes up, you
probably don't need to use their software. I am assuming here that you
are talking about a USB external drive.

If you are talking about an external hard disk, you may need to run the
Seagate Disk Wizzard to format the disk so the computer will recognize it.
That shouldn't be necessary with a USB external drive.
