Re: [JAWS-Users] What does repairing JAWS 13 actually do?

2012-08-28 Thread Mike O'Brien
Hi

JAWS repair doesn't give you information about what it is actually doing. I
assume that it checks all of the JAWS modules and reinstalls or fixes those
that don't match what it is looking for. As for the user settings, the only
thing that was different was that my Dectalk Express was no longer my
default speech and I couldn't switch back to it. The only synthesizer
choices I had were Eloquence, SAPI5 and RealSpeak. I had to go to the
Synthesizer and Braille manager from the All Programs\JAWS13\Tools menu and
reinstalled it. I restarted JAWS and then switch back to it. I was having
the problem of JAWS not speaking certain things in an application, but the
repair fixed it. I believe that you need to use the version and level of
JAWS you are running to do a repair.

Hello.

Eric has eloquently described how t run a repair on JFW13. What does repair
actually do? Does it reinstall or correct any errors in all the shared
components and files/folders that JFW downloads and installs when we upgrade
to a newer version or release of JFW?
Second, If I run repair does it mess up my personalized settings for the
diff programs on my PC, does it mess up my default settings of jaws
including voice profiles and voice aliases?
I ask because on both of my 2 Win7 PC's running the latest JFw13.0.1006, I
see some buggy behavior on some web pages with check boxes as well as
inability of 13.1006 to read the labels of some buttons in GoldWave. this
problem didn't exist with the 13.9xx nor with JFW12.k

Hi Steven,

Below is the link to a TSN that talks about this. Below that, is the steps I
pulled from the TSN which should help you do it.

Regards,
Eric

1. Press WINDOWS Key+R.

2. Choose the Browse button.

3. Navigate to the folder where the JAWS setup package is located.

4. Select the setup package file and press ENTER.

5. Press END and then press the SPACEBAR.

6. Type:
/Type Repair

 - Repairs a typical installation of JAWS. Once the repair begins, you will
not be able to cancel the operation. During the repair, progress dialogs are
displayed and a clicking tone is played. At the end, you will be prompted to
restart your computer

Hi friends,

i want to run a repair on JAWS.

I run the downloaded package and it says that the product is already
installed, to modify it, use add remove programmes.

i go to add remove programmes and press return on JAWS 13 and it only gives
me an option to remove it.

Do I have to run a full uninstall and then re-install to be able to repair
it?
