  Hi Devona,

You're right, I am not using Norton 2007, and probably won't for a while.

I have to admit though, I really hope they didn't change the interface very
much from 2006, as I found that one to be truly accessible.

I was given it for a 3 month trial period with my new laptop, and thought it
  was the cat's meow.

It was almost completely accessible, in my opinion, and focus was kept on
the window I needed to be on.

Granted, you still had to wade through all those damn mouse over links, but
once you listen to it enough, you just ignored the whole mouse over link
thing, and went on your way, and before anyone comments on how I should have
turn that off in the verbosity settings, I didn't use it enough to do that,
so let's leave it at that, shall we? LOL.

Anyway, If I get a chance to download a trial version of 2007, I'll try it
out and let you know what I find.

Hi Rick,

I do believe this was sent on list, as that is where the original question
came up.

I can't rightly say if David has put it up on the web site or not, as I
haven't checked.

Personally, I'm sure someone else, probably David, can do a better job of
writing this stuff.

It's not like I made a concerted effort to write up a tutorial, I just wrote
it off the cuff for Patti when she asked how to do it for a friend.

I can send the original one I sent to the list for David if he wishes.

I love outlook express, because the email is right there when you open it
up. On Yahoo you have to arrow down through a lot of stuff to get to your
email.

Is it a good idea to start doing email on yahoo, or would Outlook Express
 be
easier for someone who is really computer illiterate? I ask this because
 I
have a blind friend who wants to use email, and he says he and his wife's
computerare networked together. I'm not sure what difference that would
make to him and why he couldn't use a different email system. Does jaws
completely block pop-ups now? He also wants to use Mozilla Fire Fox.

Another question. He has the Norton anti-virus system in his computer. I
had difficulty when I was using Norton and now use AVG. It seemed like
Norton interfered with jaws. I tried to explain to him that this could
happen, but he sees jaws and an anti-virus program as two completely
separate things. He says jaws is a screen reader, and can see no reason
 why
 anything else should matter.

He doesn't have a lot of patience and is thinking he just might give his
computer to his sighted son and take jaws out, never having used it. Will
Freedom Scientific do anything to compensate the buyer if he has never
 used
 the program?

Thanks for answering all my questions.

Re: [JAWS-Users] When a New Jaws User

2007-06-10 Thread David Ferrin
In my opinion it is more efficient to use a pop 3 client such as Outlook
Express ETC. Being networked isn't an issue as a rule. JAWS has nothing to
do with blocking pop up windows. He can use fire fox if he wishes. Norton is
an extreme resource hog and as such may very well interfere with the smooth
operation of a system using such a memory intensive an application as JAWS.
So far as your last question I have no idea at all. There were a lot of
questions here, I hope I've answered them all to your satisfaction.

 Hi Linda,

I don't know whether Jaws has anything to do with Norton Anti-virus,
 except
that unless you have patience, it can be frustrating to learn how to set
 it
 properly and stuff like that.

I have been using, and will continue to use Norton anti-virus on my
 computer
along with Jaws, and Have never had any problems related to Jaws or Norton
 conflicting.
