Re: [JAWS-Users] Win amp
Hey guys. Windows 10 is a little different than previous oses when it comes to file associations. You should do as much from windows as possible. The advice below from Jim will work, except in this case, I don't think alt-f will give you what you need. You should use the applications key to open the file's context menu, or shift-f10. It's also possible to go into your windows defaults and choose all the file types you want to associate with winamp. You'll find this in settings. Winamp preferences no longer works perfectly to set file associations. Essentially, the rule of thumb in Windows 10 seems to be (from my observations of the past year or so): do it within Windows if you want everything to work nicely. This includes making winamp playlists by using the items in context menus from file explorer, rather than inside the winamp playlist editor. I know it's a bit of an adjustment, but I keep Winamp around, too, and still like it, and have found it's not as big of a deal as I might have at first thought. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of jimrawls Sent: January 21, 2018 12:08 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Win amp Michael, try this. Hit your applications key after you focus on an audio file and select open with, the hotkey is the letter H. Once there make sure that the box to always use your player of choice is checked. That should fix your problem. Try shift + l. That will let you add folders and play everything in it. At 12:44 PM 10/30/2011, you wrote: Please can someone tell me how I play the whole of an album via Win amp. Re: [JAWS-Users] Win amp.
Hi Mandy, When you get to the folder containing all of the files, instead of pressing enter on it to go into it, press your applications key, or shift+F10, if you don't have an applications key, then the letter P for Play with Winamp. The letter P may activate the menu item, or it may take you directly there. If it does nothing except take you directly there, press enter to activate the menu item. At this point, or very near this point, possibly a few seconds, depending on whether your computer happens to be doing something else at the time, the files will start playing. I've pasted below a tutorial I did not too long ago on how to create, manage and play playlists with Winamp. While you can use the method above to actually get the files to Winamp in lieu of the method below, you can still use the method below if you wish to add more tracks to the playlist. You can also do the above process, but instead of pressing the P key to get to Play in Winamp, you can press the letter E for the option to include in Winamp. At this point, the folder or files you've selected will be appended to the end of your playlist while the tracks are playing, or you've paused it. While I wrote the below for an earlier version of Winamp, the keystrokes and all that other stuff are the same. ***Begin Tutorial*** Believe it or not, it's easier to create a playlist with Winamp, than it sounds. First, go to your desktop, or where ever you keep the Winamp shortcut, and enter on it. Once the Winamp window opens, control+tab twice to get to the playlist editor. If you find that you've used the control+tab keystroke twice, and Jaws didn't say playlist editor, then that means you have the playlist editor closed. You can open it in one of two ways. You can press the keystroke of alt+E, or you can press alt+F, then arrow down to playlist editor and enter on it. I think you'll find the alt+E keystroke is easier. Smile. In any case, once Jaws reports that the playlist editor is opened, control+tab up to the playlist editor. Now, this is going to sound weird, but go with me on this. Once you land in the playlist editor, press control+A to highlight everything, then press delete. Don't worry if Jaws doesn't say anything, what you've essentially done is delete any tracks that were in there from the last time you used Winamp to listen to something. Unfortunately, Winamp likes to leave residual ghost images of files it's played in the last instance, and so, in order to create a clean playlist, you have to delete what was previously there. So, now that you've done that, press the letter L for lists, and this will open up an open dialog box. Those of you familiar with downloading from send space, or saving as and the like, will be familiar with this dialog box. When this dialog box opens, you'll land on the filename edit box. Do a shift+tab to go to the file list window just above the filename edit box. Now, depending on where you last took Winamp, you won't know where you'll be in the file list, so a good rule of thumb is to press the backspace key seven or eight times until Jaws stops talking. When he does, do a say line command with insert+up arrow, and Jaws should read out, Not Selected My Documents. This means you're on your desktop, and you can now go to the folder where the files are that you want to play. So, if the files are in a folder three levels deep into your my documents folder, let's call it Thea's audio files, you would press the spacebar to select My Documents, press the enter key to go into that folder, then arrow or find the folder titled Thea's Personal Files, highlight it, then press enter. Once in that folder, find the next folder, called Thea in Hawaii, enter on it, and finally go to Thea's audio files, and press enter. Be careful here, you don't want to make a common mistake that everyone makes, even me before I realized it, smile, do not touch any of the arrow keys, or the spacebar key, or anything on your keyboard until you've done a select all with control+A, and I'll explain later. Once you've done the control+A, tab to the open button in the dialog box, and press the spacebar to allow Winamp to place all the files you just selected into the playlist. Now, the reason I said not to touch anything once you land in the folder is because Winamp, and, indeed, Windows, in it's infinite wisdom, has a little bug. In most cases, when you're selecting a bunch of files to transfer over to another drive or whatever, say you want all the files except for the first one, a person using common sense would arrow down to the second file, then press control+shift+end to highlight all the files from that point downward. Once they're selected, the person would copy or cut the files, go to the destination where they want the file placed, then paste them in there. Only one problem, you suddenly notice that the last file that was at the bottom of the list,

Re: [JAWS-Users] win amp question
You could reinstall WinAmp to remove the error message I guess but this will not prevent Jaws interrupting music for other reasons. If WinAmp continues to work despite the error message then perhaps you could use another approach. You could set up a mute key in Jaws. I personally use Control plus shift plus M for this but you can designate your own key shortcut. Hitting your mute key shortcut will prevent Jaws talking in until you hit the shortcut key again. I use this a lot with my computer MP3 players to prevent Jaws talking through music or radio shows. I believe from memory instructions on setting up a mute key shortcut in Jaws is on the Tips and Tricks page and it is very straightforward , but I have not checked recently to see if this is still there. If you cannot find this and you need help let us know and I will post instructions. A final approach is to set the Jaws configuration for WinAmp to silent mode but this is not really advisable as you will not be able to access WinAmp info like time remaining etc. I think it is better to use the mute function which can be switched on and off. I want to load my c d's to my hard drive, play them back and do it either by the c d completely, or the whole library in a shuffle format. I am so mixed up. Help! Help! Help! Carla, those scripts are already included in your version of jaws as a matter of fact for quite a few years now. I do not currently have it installed on here so can't speak to the rest of your questions at the moment. Re: [JAWS-Users] win amp 5.35 question
I don't think the library is jaws friendly in that version of winamp still. According of another sorce said he removed it from his web site since it kept causing his screen reader to crash using it.. I use version 5.24 still with no problems and you can still get that I believe at, www.whitestick.co.uk go to downloads link you should find it there. If not, I could email it to ya.. - Original Message - From: David Ferrin [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Sunday, September 23, 2007 12:59 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] win amp 5.35 question Carla, those scripts are already included in your version of jaws as a matter of fact for quite a few years now. Re: [JAWS-Users] win amp 5.35 question
It is a winamp problem. Because play audio cd is unchecked by default in winamp. open winamp up and do a control +p. now arrow to file types and tab until play audio cd. check the box and close. Now when you put that cd in winamp should take over no mater what is set on the box. At 02:35 PM 9/23/2007, you wrote: Hi Carla, It would depend on what kind of CD's these are. Are they MP3 CD's, or regular audio CD's? The other thing you have to examine is what the autoplay feature is set to on your CD drive. When you drop the CD into your drive, go to your my computer icon and enter on it. Once the window comes up, arrow down to the drive where you placed the CD into, and press the applications key. If the first option in the menu is play, then all you have to do is enter on the CD drive, and the entire CD will start to play automatically. If, on the other hand, the first option is open, then someone has either turned your autoplay feature off, or, they did not add that feature to the CD. Either way, this is not a Winamp problem, this is either a CD problem, or Windows problem. Re: [JAWS-Users] win amp 5.35 question
I don't use winamp 5.35 but I believe you should do the following to automatically play cds in winamp: 1. open winamp 2. ctrl.+p to open the preferences dialogue. 3. go to general preferences and expand it with right arrow if it is collapsed 4. go down to filetypes 5. tab to launch winamp for audio CDs checkbox and check it. You will go to the checkbox faster if you do a shift+tab a few times. 6. press enter or tab to close button and activate it to close the dialogue. Now winamp should automatically play audio CDs when inserted. About the menus, you should be able to see them if you press alt+f. This is all I can say at the moment. Hope this helps, Negoslav You wrote: Okay, with Victor's help I installed the 5.35 version of win amp. Now I can't get it to do anything. For example, I drop a c d in the c d drive and nothing. Re: [JAWS-Users] win amp 5.35 question
Hi Tim, I sent Carla the instructions on how to install Winamp for blind users, and in those instructions I stated to make sure that allow Winamp to handle CD's was checked. That is why I say this is a computer problem, and not a Winamp problem.
