I heard it should only be used if you absolutely know what you're doing
because a mistake can lead to damaging the operating system.

Hi Kevin,

For the symptoms you describe, I would first delete all the browser junk
that accumulates over time. My sighted wife described these exact
symptoms, and a simple browser cleanup solved it all.

There are at least 3 different ways to get to the Internet Explorer
cleanup option. The most direct way is to press control, shift, and the
delete key.
That will get to the proper place, and on my Windows 7, JAWS lands on the
cancel button. Press the tab key, and you will find a set of categories
of stuff to remove. These are check boxes, so you press the space bar to
select or deselect each category. The categories are self explanatory for
the most part. Keep tabbing, and you will get to the delete button, press
enter. Depending upon how long it has been since the last cleanup, it may
take a minute for all this to finish.

A malware tool is also a good thing to get, but I would first do the
above, since the malware tool would not touch these items that can really
slow down your browser.

since the malware tool would not touch these items that can really slow down
your browser.

Hi Kevin,

I would go with Malware Bytes, version 1.75. Based upon comments from this
list, I think that the newer versions are less JAWS friendly.

I would still go and follow the delete steps I described. That option of
deleting browsing history upon exit is more limited, and gets rid of only
the actual history. It does not get rid of the temp and cash files, the
ones that take up lots of room and slow things down.

Hi Kevin,

For the symptoms you describe, I would first delete all the browser junk
that accumulates over time. My sighted wife described these exact symptoms,
and a simple browser cleanup solved it all.

There are at least 3 different ways to get to the Internet Explorer cleanup
option. The most direct way is to press control, shift, and the delete key.

A malware tool is also a good thing to get, but I would first do the above,

Hi Kevin,

You need to turn off the program updating feature so MWB 1.75 won't update
to the 2.0...version. Also, when installing make sure that you don't allow
MWB to update until you get the settings in the Updater changed. Once the
Updating settings are set you will only receive definition updates. Below
are steps for both the free pro versions:

From:

Hi:

Please ignore my previous message, I have put my steps for the free version
beneath Mike's excellent tutorial:
Malware Bytes 1.75 Keeps Being Replaced
I don't know if the following steps will work if you're running the Free
version but, if you're running the Pro or Premium version do the following:

1. Press enter on Malware Bytes in the system tray arrow to, start
scanner, press enter. Or, just press enter on the desktop shortcut to
start the
scanner.

2. With Malwarebytes open, tab until you land on the Exit button.
GM: with the free version you wan't get a exit button, you will have to
click on the cancel button with the jaws cursor.
3. Press the up arrow key once, which will place you on the tabs that
contains Scanner, Protection, Update, etc.
GM: with the free version step three will not work.
4. Hold down the Ctrl key and right arrow to the, Settings, tab.
GM: with the free version you'll have to use the jaws cursor and click on
the settings tab.
5. On the Settings tab, tab 1 time you'll be on the, General tab but, do
not tab right here. You want to press, control + right arrow, to the,
Updater
Settings Tab. Now on the, Updater

Settings Tab, tab 1 time to, Download and install program update if
available, uncheck this box. Tab 1 more time to, Notify me when a program
update
is ready for installation, uncheck

this box. Tab 1 more time , Use proxy server to download updates, can be
left unchecked as well.

GM: with the free version: in this step I just kept tabbing from the General
tab until I got the options above and unchecked the two that were check
their.
6. Now tab to, Exit, press enter.
GM: I clicked on the malware icon for the 1.75 version on my desktop and it
no longer tries to update the version.

Good luck,
George R. Marshall

Take care.

Malware Bytes 2.04 is still being worked on as far as the accessibility is

select or deselect each category. The categories are self explanatory for
the most part. Keep tabbing, and you will get to the delete button, press
enter. Depending upon how long it has been since the last cleanup, it may
take a minute for all this to finish.

A malware tool is also a good thing to get, but I would first do the above,
since the malware tool would not touch these items that can really slow down
your browser.

2015-01-10 Thread Kevin Lee
too late, after installation malware updated by itself before I could do
anything, but while running it it seems very keyboard accessible, but it is
hard to navigate it if you don't know how to do it like me. I just ran a
scan then when complete I got quarantine all so I executed it by pressing
enter and exited with alt+f4 and all is ok.

Good luck,

Take care.

Kevin,

Malware Bytes 2.04 is still being worked on as far as the accessibility is
concerned. However, I do have the installation file for version 1.75, the
last fully accessible version if you would like it. It is still a viable
version to use, and can be updated to the latest definitions. If anyone here
wants it, send me a private email, and I will send the file to you.

Sorry, left out that first step! Yes, you launch Internet Explorer. If you
use Firefox, the same command gets you started, control, shift, delete key,
but from then on the delete categories in Firefox are a bit different, but
are clearly described as to what each deletion category will remove.

In order to do the browser clean up as described in the below message,
should you have I.E. running, or do you execute the Control+Alt+Delete when
all programs are closed and you are on the desktop?

Thanks,
Annette

Hi Kevin,

For the symptoms you describe, I would first delete all the browser junk
that accumulates over time. My sighted wife described these exact symptoms,
and a simple browser cleanup solved
