I take it then you don't have an OCR package installed on your system? Open
Book is the one Freedom Scientific sells. I always found it prohibitively
expensive. I'm planning to purchase Abbyy Finereader sometime soon as the
price is very reasonable, but I just haven't got round to it, and so I can't
check to see if it can do this, however it is supposed to be able to work on
image files, too, which, I assume, would include .bmps. Even if it doesn't,
you can probably convert the file to a workable format.
Actually that reminds me of something ou could try. In your context menu for
the bitmap image there might be a "convert to adobe PDF" option. I have one,
but I'm not absolutely sure where the menu item comes from -- as in, if it
originates in Windows, or with Adobe Acrobat Pro, which I have on here. In
any case, if you can perform this operation, you could try opening the .pdf
in Reader/Acrobat and then attempting to oCR the document with the JAWS
feature.
