List is active.

Virtual ribbons supposedly allow you to use Outlook and other Microsoft
products with the old menu structure, however if turned on you can't use
shortcut keys such as let's say control N for a new message, you must go
through the menus to create a new message.

Your mileage may vary, advise you to use the ribbons despite needing to
remember three or more key combinations to do almost anything. Faster in my
opinion. I tried virtual ribbons but after a week turned them off because I
could not center a line, or do other tasks I had done in Word for years.

Hello everybody, I am a new member of this list my name is Daniel. I realise
that this might be off topic but I would really like it if someone could
give me sergestions instead of saying this is not a jaws related question
and there for it wouldn't be answered because simply I don't know where else
to go to get help with this question.

Well with that out of the way lets begin!

With out beating around the bush, its to do with a certain file extention.
Basicly ones like .zip .exe and ones that are not music related are fine. By
this lets say for example I wanted to download the latest demo of Jaws so I
go to that website find the jaws version I want and when I hit enter on it a
dialog box comes up asking weather I want to run, save or cancel. So I have
a choice in what I want to do.
Now comes my problem that I am having.
Basicly if its a music extention such as .mp3 .wma and proably loads of more
that I have not heard of. But if lets say I go to the website blind cool
tech all of them are audio files that you can download. Well when ever I hit
enter on one of them windows media player which is my default player to play
things just comes up I don't get the dialog box asking weather I want to
open, save or cancel. The only way at present I can download these types of
files is going to the link hitting the apps key on it and going down to
save target as then a save as dialog box comes up and I hit enter and that
saves the file. But is there a way to get windows media player and its
extentions to behave as for example as the .exe .zip extentions?
I know this proably is a tough question to answer and to be fixed for me but
please I would be greatful if someone could give me advice on how to resolve
it.
Many Thanks
A new member.

Actually, the procedure that you are using is the one I also use. I
don't know any other way when that happens. Sometimes rather than
clicking on the link you can try first hitting the Context menu key and
see what it presents. Sometimes it will present that menu that allows
you to Save Target. It depends on how they have set up the page.

I'm so comfortable with what I've got, and based on what I've been hearing

pretty wise decision. I guess I'll wait alittle while and continue reading
everyones email on the subject and then maybe i will install it when it is
cool. Can you dig it? Anyway, I am still a rookie, and I get stuck on this

Hi Elaine;

Try these keystrokes below and see if they help.
To switch back and forth between documents while staying in Word, you can
use alt + f6, or control +f6 besides alt, + tab.

Take care.

Isn't there a windows command for switching from pane to pane? I was
thinking like the f6 which one uses when doing the help feature to switch
back and forth and thought this might work the same since the f6 is a
windows command and Word is windows based?

If that's not the right command then I would look for the windows hot keys
of whatever version you are using..

hiya

yep, in word not excel.

I open up a new blank document in word. then have to crate a chart by
entering on insert, picture, chart. from the menus, so far ok...

this chart is the bar chart that we start off with. they call it a basic
chart.

from what I've been told, you have two pains or windows open, one is the
data sheet, the other is the chart. one is in front of the other.

I can't appear to switch between the two windows, I need the focus to be
on the data sheet to insert data on the the data sheet, but need the
other
window to manipulate the chart. I've tried every trick in the book I
know

to get jaws to read both windows.

this is only one of about a million problems I've got.

so, on the data sheet, you have items down the left hand side, then a row
of items across the bottom.

I can with hit and miss get jaws to read the items, but is is random.

so on the graph before inserting everything, it will have...

first quarter
second quarter
third quarter
fourth quarter

down the side of the chart.

across the bottom is:

north
south
east
west.
I'd paste in a chart here just not sure if jaws will read it, or not read
it, in the same way it wont read it in word. if this makes any sense?

now where I've got the quarters and the compass positions, we are
supposed

to overtype them with other details, then change axes positions, then
insert titles, then change that basic graph to a pie chart. then the run
really begins, as then I've got to shade in segments of the pie, etc.
it

does get very complicated and is really winding me up.

this is why I need a digital copy, then I can just send items to the
people who might be able to help. I'm getting so frustrated as I've
managed to find other work around and also if I cant do these graphs I
wont get my full certificate and I think that is just so unfair.

if it was for work etc then sure I can create graphs with other means,
but

for this course I have to use word.

I forgot to mention, I'm a fairly advanced user of jaws.

thanks for any help.

I thought the same thing, I've tried that, nothing happens.

Hi Elaine,
Using Insert command means you have a file somewhere to insert in the word
doc that you have been created, eg picture, chart etc.
The chart has to be done in Excel, which is very easy to do especially if
you just doing basic chart.
I have done Clait 1 and 2 plus, and as far as I know, we create charts
using Excel and we can insert it in a word doc.
However: somebody in the list might know how to create chart in the word
who can help you.

Cheers,

Hello list members I just recently installed JFW 10 and I am having
alot of trouble. My first problem is trying to get my title bar. I
read on the list to use f6 but that just tell to set the value. I
have also scanned the web for help including going to freedom
scienticfic and the chart there said to use ins plus A twice. I am
still getting the same responce set the value to 0. Needless to say
I am just a little on the frayed side with this. My other problem
stem from not being able to go into a link from my google email. Here
is an example I read the NY Time and as I read thru I usually can
click on a news subject and it will take me to the full story. Well
that is not the case now since I have installed 10. For the first
couple of days I would do ALT plus enter and that would connect me to
the story. No such luck now. What am I doing wrong. I would like to
add that I am a newly blind person only a couple of years and there is
very little resources and persons with knowledge of JAWS in this
area.. I am learning thru trial and error. I am just glad that I
have found this group I also have tons of other questions but will
leave that till I can conquer this problem Thanks ps I dont know if
this will make a difference but I am using a HP laptop. Again thanks

[JAWS-Users] New member with a few questions about JAWS 10

2008-12-02 Thread Charline Smith

[JAWS-Users] New Member and a Request for help

2008-12-01 Thread Elaine
Hiya

firstly, just wanted to say hello as I've recently joined this list.

secondly, I wonder if anyone could either help me, or direct me to where I
might find the answers I seek.

I am doing a course at college which entails me using Microsoft office. the
version is 2003 we are using jaws 9.

Part of my course work is to create graphs, charts and pie charts within word.

I am really struggling to get jaws to read anything on a basic chart of any
description, whether it be pie, flow or bar.

if I'm lucky, jaws will read north, south, east and west on a bar chart if I
use the jaws cursor, but I cannot get either pc nor jaws cursor to the position
to enter text within the correct fields.

does anyone know if there is a work around with jaws?

I am trying to get a digital copy of the manual, that's proving almost
impossible too. at least then I could show people what I need to do.

I would be very grateful if anyone could help.

thanks

Elaine

Hi,
Do you mean you create graphs charts and pie charts within word doc, not in
Excel?

I do charts in Excel using office 2003 and so far I have no problem with it.
Perhaps you can explain further what exactly you're doing and knowledgeable
people here in the list might of good help.

Cheers,

Re: [JAWS-Users] New Member and a Request for help

2008-12-01 Thread Elaine

hiya

yep, in word not excel.

I can't appear to switch between the two windows, I need the focus to be on
the data sheet to insert data on the the data sheet, but need the other
window to manipulate the chart. I've tried every trick in the book I know
to get jaws to read both windows.

this is only one of about a million problems I've got.

so, on the data sheet, you have items down the left hand side, then a row of
items across the bottom.

I can with hit and miss get jaws to read the items, but is is random.

so on the graph before inserting everything, it will have...

first quarter
second quarter
third quarter
fourth quarter

down the side of the chart.

across the bottom is:

north
south
east
west.
I'd paste in a chart here just not sure if jaws will read it, or not read
it, in the same way it wont read it in word. if this makes any sense?

now where I've got the quarters and the compass positions, we are supposed
to overtype them with other details, then change axes positions, then insert
titles, then change that basic graph to a pie chart. then the run really
begins, as then I've got to shade in segments of the pie, etc. it does get
very complicated and is really winding me up.

this is why I need a digital copy, then I can just send items to the people
who might be able to help. I'm getting so frustrated as I've managed to
find other work around and also if I cant do these graphs I wont get my full
certificate and I think that is just so unfair.

if it was for work etc then sure I can create graphs with other means, but
for this course I have to use word.

I forgot to mention, I'm a fairly advanced user of jaws.

thanks for any help.

Isn't there a windows command for switching from pane to pane? I was
thinking like the f6 which one uses when doing the help feature to switch
back and forth and thought this might work the same since the f6 is a
windows command and Word is windows based?

If that's not the right command then I would look for the windows hot keys

Hi Elaine;

Try these keystrokes below and see if they help.
To switch back and forth between documents while staying in Word, you can
use alt + f6, or control +f6 besides alt, + tab.

Take care.

Hi Elaine,
Using Insert command means you have a file somewhere to insert in the word
doc that you have been created, eg picture, chart etc.
The chart has to be done in Excel, which is very easy to do especially if
you just doing basic chart.
I have done Clait 1 and 2 plus, and as far as I know, we create charts using
Excel and we can insert it in a word doc.
However: somebody in the list might know how to create chart in the word who
can help you.

Cheers,
