Re: [JAWS-Users] regarding goldwev

2016-05-09 Thread Paul

Oops... I was confusing two functions.

The Trim/Auto Trim commands deal with silences at the end and/or
beginning of a file. However, if you press ALT+C (, then F for filter,
then R for Remove Silence, you can specify using a dialog box how much
(length) of silence you want Goldwave to remove from within a selected
area of the file. This is very useful for removing long pauses within a
speech or interview, for instance.

For trimming silence from the end and beginning of entire files, I
typically use the Auto Trim function (Control+T). The decibel threshold
can be selected manually, but I find the default works just fine for this.

Thanks for clarifying this, Mario.

the feature that you're referring to is silence reduction which
affects the silences within the file.

It is usually preferred with Goldwave (as well as other audio editors)
to avoid the presets and specify what you want. This is easily done by
tabbing through each effect or edit menu until a form field is reached
where you can type in the values.

I don't believe the trim silence affects the whole file, it just trims
the silences at the beginning and end of the file. for example, a music
