This is way too much of a valuable resource for Jaws information to lose
because of this loss in list traffic. I'm just hoping for the best for this
list.

David, I want to let you know that I really appreciate this list. I have
been on the list almost since its beginning. I have been bumped off several
times but I always manage to get back on and the last time I was bumped off
it was really hard for me to get back on but I finally managed to do it. I
hope you will continue as long as you can. I really appreciate you very
much.

I am a bit concerned over the significant drop in list traffic over the past
several weeks. Granted Microsoft has blocked out this domain and earlier
this year road runner did the same thing. Also in the past com cast and
others have done the same.

It might be possible that the list has run its’ course. It is 11 years old
this week as a matter of fact which I find hard to believe myself.

Let’s see how things go for a while before any major decisions are made so
don’t anybody panic at this point. I am just expressing my concern about the
way things have dropped off so much. It had to happen sooner or later. The
fact is I have no idea how long the average email list stays in business, I
suppose that would be an interesting study.

Now to sit back and see what kind of response this message generates.

now I have paid for the domain another 3 years with the option to renew if

We are quite pleased with the fact this is a good group of people who

Hi David,

In my opinion, this list is not close to have run its course. I think that
right now we are in a smooth sailing period with JAWS and most of the
commonly used applications and no one is running into major issues. Of
course you have faced the problem with mail compatibility, so I am not sure
how many users that has impacted. I do think as soon as JAWS18 officially
hits the streets there will be an increase in traffic, as well as when
updates to commonly used products become available.

I personally am very appreciative of the hard work and effort you and the
team put into keeping this list up and running. I've learned a lot, and try
to pay it back by contributing whenever possible. This list fills a gap
that is not able to be filled by FS/VFO Technical Support on many levels.
Please no one take that as a slam to FS/VFO.

Thank you David & Team!

Hi Bob,

Would you & Rick consider joining the Jaws-Users moderator labor union?!
There's a fee of 25¢ every 10 years, which is refundable if, I, your
fearless union negotiator cannot get you guys a better contract! I do
understand thatthe the current list owner / manager is a very shrewd
negotiator in his own right, & a slave driver as well but, with the outpour
of all the list members maybe, just maybe, we can soften that heart just a
touch! It will be hard to do, giving he looks out for the list members
first & foremost! Now after sounding like a true politician / union leader,
& blowing all kinds of smoke up your pant legs with false hopes & promises
that you both know I can't fulfill, would you still consider joining the
Jaws-Users moderators union for the measely fee of 25¢ per decade?

I'm eagerly awaiting your replies in order to get this new union off the
ground!

Take care.

Obviously I know how to bring people out of the woodwork so to speak.

I just wanted to make sure that there was still an interest moving forward.
I kind of thought there was but it does not hurt to confirm such things.
Folks as much to my team and the fact that things have been so smooth on
here for quite some time is why we are cruzing along starting our twelfth
year next week. I don't believe it even as I type these words.

The vast majority of you actually have no idea how much has gone on in the
background with all of us over time.

It is just that we work so well together things plow on. All of us have had
medical issues and a couple of us have had shoulder surgery, rotator cuff to
be exact. Last year my wife had a new heart valve installed and I was off
the list for almost 8 weeks taking care of her. The guys did a great job
because I would have been no help at all during that time. There were days
that the only thing I did with this system was shut it off and nothing else
at all. I'm not telling you this to garner sympathy or anything like that,
rather to let you folks know that I work with the best couple of guys
available. FYI don't tell Bob I said that, his ego is already the size of
the grand canyon.

Just kidding Bob, he is really a humble guy or so I'm told.

So far as being blocked out what is really happening is that some services
are blocking messages from this domain from being delivered to their
customers and eventually Mailman removes them for bouncing messages. They
are able to post messages, it is just they can't receive which is a major
annoyance to say the least.

I'm convinced that interest still rains supreme, thank you all for
confirming that fact.

It might be possible that the list has run its’ course. It is 11 years old

Re: [JAWS-Users] regarding the recent drop in list traffic

2016-10-12 Thread Annette Carr
Hi David,

In my opinion, this list is not close to have run its course. I think that
right now we are in a smooth sailing period with JAWS and most of the commonly
used applications and no one is running into major issues. Of course you have
faced the problem with mail compatibility, so I am not sure how many users that
has impacted. I do think as soon as JAWS18 officially hits the streets there
will be an increase in traffic, as well as when updates to commonly used
products become available.

I personally am very appreciative of the hard work and effort you and the team
put into keeping this list up and running. I've learned a lot, and try to pay
it back by contributing whenever possible. This list fills a gap that is not
able to be filled by FS/VFO Technical Support on many levels. Please no one
take that as a slam to FS/VFO.

Thank you David & Team!

Annette

people's questions; some times, I look up the archives for replies to
questions I am needing a sertain time. I have learnt quite a fiew thing
regarding working Jaws that I didn't know.

Please, keep the list running as much as you can. I for one am very greatful

several weeks. Granted Microsoft has blocked out this domain and earlier

others have done the same.

It might be possible that the list has run its’ course. It is 11 years old

Let’s see how things go for a while before any major decisions are made so
don’t anybody panic at this point. I am just expressing my concern about the

Hi David, I have been on the list forever and on other lists as well.
Two aspects of this particular list are of importance to me.

1. VFO actually monitors the list, and it may be the only one, so that
they know what is needed, wanted, and yes, even not totally seen as
positive innovations of JAWS by the membership.

2. To my thinking, despite differences of opinion at times, this list
has had few real times of turmoil, in spite the large size of the
membership and the age of the list.

So, if you can stand us any longer, remain sane, maintain your
fortitude, and accept the pay scale, please keep up the good work.

Re: [JAWS-Users] regarding the recent drop in list traffic

2016-10-12 Thread David Ferrin

Hi David,

It's reassuring to know the list is here. Sharing information significantly
reduces time and frustration trying to find solutions to problems. People's

another.

Thank you!

David,

I appreciate this list for the fact that it is NOT a high traffic list. I
see the traffic on many of the non-high traffic lists rise and fall,
depending on the time of year and the current activity around the subject of
the list. As another member mentioned, I am sure that traffic will rise
quickly as the next version of Jaws is released.

I am sure that maintaining this list takes a fair amount of your time and we
all can appreciate that fact and are grateful that you have provided this
service for so long.

Keep up the great work!

2016-10-12 Thread Humberto Rodriguez
Hello David:

I guess spam is such a big problem that delivery of emails is at best iffy
anymore from private domains, at least that was my experience, figured I had to
move the list to a list provider for better delivery, thus I went to
Googlegroups.

I for one, find this list very useful and encourage you to continue
administering it. Private domains and smaller ISPs have no problem receiving
your messages, at least I have not have problems so far.

All the best,

I, too, find this list to be incredibly valuable.

The folks on the list have come to my aid during a few desperate times over the
past couple of years, and I am truly appreciative of that.

I hope I might have helped some folks along the way as well.

I realize that serving as a list moderator is a demanding and often thankless

Re: [JAWS-Users] regarding the recent drop in list traffic

2016-10-12 Thread Jason White
Well managed mailing lists such as this one can last a very long time. They
don't just suddenly die, unless people lose interest in the topic or otherwise
move on due to administrative issues with the list.

Implementing DMARC and configuring the list not to break DKIM signatures are
both a certain amount of work, but large mail operators are starting to insist
on these (Yahoo in particular, as I recall), so it might be worth doing at
Asome point. I set all of this up on my own mail server last year. Yahoo
has a DNS record that instructs other sites which use DMARC to reject all mail
from Yahoo addresses that fails DMARC verification. I odn't know whether large
operators are placing mail that fails DMARC tests into quarantine, but it
wouldn't surprise me to find that they are.

hello I to must say how happy I am to get traffic from this list since I to
have found it really good when I have questions or am stuck on something
having to do with jaws. why just the other day I had a friend call me and
tell me that they were getting a tablit and it was a aser and they were
asking me how they coud make it accessible. I told them about jaws and where
to get a demmo version to try it out and I rememberd the topic coming up
hear on the list about how you were able to use jaws on a tablit pc to make
it accessible. so I agree this list still has a perpice to serve. so keep up
the grait work. from Mich Verrier from New Liskeard Ontario Canada.
