[JAWS-Users] turning the speech off

2008-08-11 Thread ahmed alomran
hi all
I use Jaws with a Braille display and I would like to know how could I turn the
speech of the jaws off. I have made several attempts to do that by going to
voices but I haven't managed to find the command or the short cut which enables
me to do so. I wish if someone from the list can inform me how to do that.
kind and warm regards.

Re: [JAWS-Users] turning the speech off

2008-08-11 Thread Flor Lynch
No No, that's not what he wants. What's wanted is braille without speech,
and JAWS must still be loaded for that to happen. One may choose NoSpeech
as a synth, and activate that as you would any other synthesizer; or,
preferably perhaps, one can use insert+v and [in JAWS9] press end Key to
Synthesizer Speech On and press spacebar to toggle it off.

there may be other ways, which more constant braille-option users than I can
point up.

2008-08-11 Thread Alex Stone
Sorry, this isn't what he wants to do. He wants to mute speech and still use
his Braille display. He doesn't want to quit jaws.
To do this, hit alt j to bring up the jaws menu. Go down to the language
submenu, then choose change synthesizer, and enter on no speech.
Cheers
Alex

Hi Alex. Do you have to have jaws 9 for this to work as alt J does not have
any effect on my computer. I would like to shut the speech off in jaws, when
someone sighted is working on my computer, but I need for jaws to return
speech. I also need to know how to get it back again. Thank you so much for
your or anyone's help with this. I don't want to unload jaws. New member

New member

It's probably because the command is jaws key with J to get onto the context

the symthesizer or choose no speech. Simply arrow to no speech and tab to ok
