Tom, do you have to type the new password and then again to confirm the 
change before typing in the security code? if so, the new and confirmation 
don't exactly match, probably due to a missing letter, number or character. 
try again and make sure the password and confirmation match before typing 
the security code.

we are talking about a web based email account, or is it a client (like 
Thunderbird, Windows live Mail, etc?
I don't quite understand. you want to change the password on your dad's 
email account. after you login, and eventually get to the button/link to 
change the password, you have to enter the same password as you did when you 
first logged in to verify it's you? if I'm wrong, please explain so I can 
understand better.

usually when a button is unavailable it means that the button has been 
dimmed or is grayed out, meaning something is not satisfactory/in agreement. 
even though I have a hotmail account, I haven't got a clue, maybe someone 
else can offer a suggestion. sorry.
