Re: [JAWS-Users] Making Avast More Accessible

2008-05-28 Thread Roger Bachelder
Hi Chris,

Thanks for posting this information. I just un installed AVG 7 point 5, and
installed Avast 4 point 8. I did like you said and everything is working
great! There was only one thing that was not accessible though. When your
ask to type in the 3 digit code, I was unable to find it. But once I was
able to get a pair of eyes in the room and get the 3 digit code, things went
smoothly.

Again, thanks for the posting.

Take care,

Roger C Bachelder 3rd

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Making Avast More Accessible

Hi all, please accept my apologies for the duplicate posts, however I feel
that the more people that get the below instructions, the better. So here we

go.

Hi all, do the following two things to make Avast more accessible.
Configuring Avast to not use the skins for the simple user interface:
1. Start Avast.
2. Wait for the memory test to be completed, then close the web page that
appears. You should now land on a dummy check box.
3. Press the applications key to open a context menu, down arrow to settings

and press enter. The Programme Settings dialogue box appears, with the
categories tree gaining focus.
4. Tab until you hear, enable skins for simple user interface check box
checked. Press space to uncheck it.
5. Tab to ok and press enter. You'll land back on the dummy check box.
6. Close and restart Avast. You should now be able to tab through the
controls in this programme.
Configuring JAWS to read lists in Avast:
1. Make sure that you're focused on the Avast Simple User Interface.
2. Press JAWS key 6 to open Configuration Manager.
3. Press enter to accept the New Configuration File dialogue box.
4. Press alt s to open the set options menu, then press a. The advanced
Options dialogue box appears.
5. Shift tab till you hear, Rely on MSAA for List Views check box not
checked. Press space to check it.
6. Press enter to activate the ok button.
7. Either press control s to save your configuration file immediately, or
press alt F4, pressing enter to activate the yes button on the confirm
dialogue box.
By doing these steps, you'll resolve an issue on some machines whereby JAWS
stops speaking when focused on any of the lists in Avast.

No, the pro in avast has nothing to do with xp pro. it is just a name for
their software. because the avast pro is for businesses and stuff who need
to purchase the software.you ncan just download the regular free avast home

Hi, it doesn't matter what version of Windows XP and Vista for that matter;
both Avast Home and Avast Pro will run on whatever version of Windows. What
matters is that Avast Home is free for home users whilst Avast Pro is
generally for businesses and is therefore shareware. Hope that helps.

go.

Hi all, do the following two things to make Avast more accessible.
Configuring Avast to not use the skins for the simple user interface:

controls in this programme.
Configuring JAWS to read lists in Avast:
1. Make sure that you're focused on the Avast Simple User Interface.
2. Press JAWS key 6 to open Configuration Manager.
3. Press enter to accept the New Configuration File dialogue box.

Hi all, don't worry about it being private or not, but yes shift F10 will
also work. The reason I stated the applications key is that this key is
pretty much standard on most modern keyboards, but let me stress that shift
F10 *will* work to bring up the skin's context menu. Hope that helps.
